I agree, the healthcare system is a complete mess, but think of it like re-writing software. Sometimes continuously refactoring code is a much wiser decision than completely re-writing the code
I put up a contest on 99 designs for their lowest package, the $295 one (I've heard that you get what you pay for, so if you're looking for more than ~15-20 designs for your contest, you should buy the more expensive packages). I also bought an admin template from themeforest for $20 that I needed the logo to match.
I'm not sure if I didn't communicate my idea clearly enough in the contest or even if I just didn't know what kind of logo I was looking for, but none of the logo's stood out to me when my contest was over. I ended up finding a unique font on some font site and it ended up fitting perfectly with what I had in mind so I created the logo myself.
I requested I get my money back guarantee from 99 designs, but never heard from them. I left them multiple messages and called their office multiple times during their business hours but they never answered or responded (You'd think that if a website is offering a money back guarantee and if they put their phone number up on their site that you would at least be able to get a hold of someone but I never heard from them at all).
Eventually I ended up getting my money back but I had to file a dispute with Paypal to get it.
EDIT: To answer your question, I created my logo myself.
Ended up learning a whole lot in the process too.
I almost convinced myself to spend around $7-800 on a design from 99designs before I found an awesome admin theme on themeforest for $20
Just because you purchase a theme from themeforest does not mean that your site will look like 500 other sites that have the same theme. I bought an admin template so that I could use the styles....not the structure and layout. You should purchase a theme knowing that it's going to be customized to fit your needs, not to just drop it in and be done...plus, chances are most of the admin templates are used on the backend for a bunch of websites that the public won't see.
Maybe it's just that I like to learn, I'm not real sure.
How would you invest in a startup using your LLC? You can't. You need cash to invest in a startup.
I'm not sure as to how much of your net worth of at least $1MM needs to be cash and how much can be other assets though.
It really gives you an insight into the ups and downs and events that lead to the beginning of some well known companies.
I wonder if it just calculates calories or if it can calculate carbs too? My brother is diabetic and I can see this being extremely helpful for anyone needing to calculate their insulin.
24 hour support and they've been able to help me every single time I've called them.
Their GridService scales with traffic bursts so you don't have to worry about a whole lot. My site was featured on Mashable and brought in about 12K hits in a few hours and it handled it just fine.
Just a thought, but it seems to have worked for Reddit. This puts a lot of responsibility on the community to keep the quality of the discussions up, but I think enough people on here care about the quality of the community to help out.
HN will always have an awesome community that TechCrunch never had. HN is a place to exchange ideas and read about what's going on in the startup industry.
I sure hope this place doesn't become the new TechCrunch...
I agree with benofsky too, the site just feels like a link farm.
If the goal is not to promote hatred then why did you call it WhatYouHateAbout.Me?
Hate has such a negative connotation to it. If your goal is to identify people's weaknesses than you should think of a name/domain with a lighter connotation using the word weakness rather than hate
You need him or else you do not have a product. No product means no company.
No reasonable developer would take anything less than this...If they're going to be putting their energy into developing your product for the next 1-3 years (minimum) then you need to split the equity with them equally.
A team of 20+ people with $41 million in the bank has the luxury of not having to worry about missing a rent check and they have the resources to do thorough QA testing and run a beta program to get initial feedback (maybe color ran a beta program I'm not sure).
Color definitely has the resources to run a 6 month beta program to get feedback and test their app....a founding team of two living off their savings may not have the time or money to do this.

It only went one season but you get to watch the day-in-day-out activities of a startup for 8 full episodes.
It's kind of a hybrid startup in that they operate online but their service revolves around the postal system. It gives you a good idea of the ups and downs a startup goes through during it's lifetime.
