dferlemann··on Why am I being endorsed for skills and expertise I do not claim on my profile?
People endorse me for stuff they don't really know that I'm good at... I find that oddly uncomfortable.
dferlemann··on Adblock buying ads to advertise Adblock
It's like a shopping a pantry store with a nasal smell blocker. How is that legal to block your nose while shopping here! It is stealing! Your logic is just perfect.
dferlemann··on Hitting China’s Wall
It talks about the lack of spending power of consumer because of low wages, and gains all flood into elite class and national enterprises. My observation is that it's seemed almost like "directed" or "forced" consumption to stimulate economy - a consumption without average consumers, or people really have very little role to it. Prove is that the real-estate expansion bubble, empty buildings and cities. It's like a hack of economy for super growth with very little risk. I think it's a complete violation of nature, but effects can vary... my prediction of one significant effect is that there will be very little innovation come out from China for next 20 years. I think they've thought of it, and don't care as it is not a primary concern for them at this point in time. And I don't think this hack is as good as it is thought to be, the risk has been reduced in the short-term, but it's somewhat cumulative, and it's going to be very dangerous in long-term.

Back to topic of this article... I can see the wall, but it's so huge that distance cannot be determined. Maybe when China about to hit, they might come up with something. After all, control is their weapon, and it can be extremely effective.

dferlemann··on [dead]
Can't think a possible reason... it just doesn't compute. Atheism and Agnosticism are not a belief but a lack of one because of rational reasons. What kind of possible quarrel between these two?
dferlemann··on Poll: Do you use your real identity on HN?
depends on what do you mean by "real." Who am I, really? Do we exist? Where are we heading? WHAT IS THE DESTINY OF HUMAN RACE ?! \ಠoಠ/
dferlemann··on Human rights record of the United States in 2012 (Chinese viewpoint)
So many comments basically saying Chinese media has no right to comment on human right issue as China does it so poorly. The whole point of this linked article is that the other side is thinking exactly the same. Talking about nationalism... there is just no objectivity on both sides. Both sides should just mind their own business - hell, like that gonna happen.
dferlemann··on I Knew a Programmer Who Went Completely Insane
That's why I adore small startups where you can grow with others while being pushed to innovate. And people you work with likely to have the same mentality. The fact that the limited resource presents such challenge it's actually exhilarating! Well, my current job though hits almost all items on that list. It sounds depressing, but it has been a great learning experience! I like challenges and I don't believe in complaints, always make the best of the current situation. (really, I'm just squeezing every bit of learning opportunities out of it... big organizations got huge resources. Ha! =D)
dferlemann··on I Knew a Programmer Who Went Completely Insane
I have only 1.5 years of work experience as software engineer. Maybe I am wrong, but aren't most of these quirks just a part of working with others? Regardless you are working for yourself, a company or organization, you have to deal with people. And people can be unethical, apathetic, incompetent, rigid, inexperienced, inappropriate. And when your company become large, it will have processes to limit your reign of power for good of the company. Every person I've worked with (mostly software guys) think they are better than others, and suffered. To me, it's more of an inability to work with others and handling situations and problems.
dferlemann··on Pixar’s Rules of Storytelling
"Come up with your ending before you figure out your middle. Seriously. Endings are hard, get yours working up front." Mass Effect 3... 17 suck endings. That got to be a record somewhere.
dferlemann··on The MS Surface Pro
2 things have been keeping me from buying one: 1. Disk space. 128GB is not going to cut it for using as laptop/desktop replacement. 2. Heat. I'm paranoid about my devices' lifespan cause by overheating...

Overall, I like this tablet. For the features it offer, the price seems right... hate to say that.

dferlemann··on Google Glass - If I Had Glass
Think this in Google's perspective. If developers are begging to take their money, why would they refuse?
dferlemann··on Tiny, Hackable Quadcopter Drone Launches Pre-Orders
I did it, too. I used TinyOS and Intelmote2 and designed a interface board to integrate Intelmote2 devices with SRV-1 tank robots. nesC has some learning curve, but it was fun experience :)
