dewyatt··on US Military's cyber command unit grapples with cluster of deaths by suicide
It seems to me that if you end up adjacent to an operation that exposes you to certain technologies, you will be harassed and attacked with covert directed-energy weapons until you are suicided or institutionalized and discredited.
dewyatt··on Supreme Court's ruling practically wipes out free speech for sex writing online
I think it's more likely we'd see term limits and balanced budget amendments. Possibly even the power for states to override federal laws, with a supermajority.

I'd like to see other things, like the commerce clause returning to its original meaning, but like you said, it's already a high bar.

dewyatt··on Supreme Court's ruling practically wipes out free speech for sex writing online
We've drifted pretty far from the Constitution and what the Founders envisioned.

The reinterpretation of the Commerce Clause was the start of a downward spiral.

I'm hoping the Convention of States will succeed and fix this, even if it means rebuilding many institutions at the State level.

Tor doesn't protect against traffic correlation last I checked.

Mixnets/Nym are better for actual privacy.

(I've not audited Nym, not an endorsement)

dewyatt··on Gzip exceptions, but only on hot or rainy days
> To rule out if it was a coding error, I tried to decompress the gzip file with bash via gzip -dc file. bash threw a strange error, “can’t seek file descriptor” when trying to read the file. This error is emitted from bash.c here.

Unless I am reading this wrong, the error would have been emitted by gzip, not bash. There is no redirection or anything here, bash is not even aware of that file.

dewyatt··on How to deal with extreme physical pain (2020)
BPC-157 is the only thing that helped me with my debilitating tendinitis. It was definitely worth it for me, nothing else worked.
dewyatt··on Contagion in Mass Killings and School Shootings (2015)
They had warships when the 2A was written, some of which were privately owned.

They also had things like the puckle gun and the founders were aware of advancing weaponry.

dewyatt··on Librem 5 Smartphone Final Specs
Hmm maybe they'll add something later. It does have smartcard support, so that may be one approach.
dewyatt··on Librem 5 Smartphone Final Specs
I just went ahead and placed my order anyways. :)
dewyatt··on Librem 5 Smartphone Final Specs
The product page does not completely agree with all of these tech specs:

dewyatt··on Opmsg – A GPG Alternative
I'm not sure what you're implying, but without context, the screenshot is meaningless.

It could be that Phil has a policy of not storing private keys on his iPhone or something. Is that so unusual?

Anyways, maybe you're privy to context that I'm missing.

dewyatt··on The PGP Problem
Yes, it depends on what you mean. The packets themselves aren't a big deal to me, it's more the ability to construct them in arbitrary ways that concerns me.
dewyatt··on The PGP Problem
> Every well-known bad cryptosystem eventually sprouts an RFC extension that supports curves or AEAD, so that its proponents can claim on message boards that they support modern cryptography.

I'm being attacked! :P

dewyatt··on The PGP Problem
I can probably agree on the packet format, it's excessively flexible and easy to implement insecurely.
dewyatt··on The PGP Problem
> PGP theater

Hmm I don't see it as theater if you are unable to intercept and decrypt my message. Or forge my signature, etc.

dewyatt··on The PGP Problem
This is more an issue with GnuPG though, not OpenPGP.

Also, you may want to try using an actual OpenPGP Card (https://www.floss-shop.de/en/security-privacy/smartcards/13/...). (You can get a small one inside a USB token too)

dewyatt··on FTC Approves Roughly $5B Facebook Settlement
Real ID gets us much closer to having a national ID. Give it time.
dewyatt··on SKS Keyserver Network Under Attack
Much of that could be solved by an implementation having user-controlled policies that whitelist/blacklist sets of algorithms. An implementation could be made with a sane default policy.

Of course, some things ought to just be replaced (S2K).

dewyatt··on Cryptography Dispatches: Hello World, and OpenPGP Is Broken
As I've mentioned before, AEAD was added to the RFC bis and a number of implementations support it.
dewyatt··on SKS Keyserver Network Under Attack
The OpenPGP RFC bis does add AEAD. The spec is overall much too flexible IMO and could use some modernization, but I don't see it as un-salvageable, as you seem to.

dewyatt··on Hacking the Casio F-91W to Handle 1000 Psi
It's all digital from what I've seen. It seems like some clear epoxy would work well. Maybe some mineral oil after it cures, just to help fill little gaps (since epoxy tends to be pretty viscous).

EDIT: Although epoxy makes it a bit difficult to change the battery, depending on how you go about it. Maybe some conformal coating on the PCB + mineral oil.

dewyatt··on AMD Ryzen 3000 announced
My desktop w/a Ryzen 1800x still randomly freezes. I disabled most of the power saving features in the UEFI, which definitely reduced the frequency but it still happens on rare occasions. :(
dewyatt··on AMD Ryzen 3000 announced
I work pretty much 100% on my desktop at home every day. Only reason I'm on a laptop right now is because of a power outage.
