devlife··on Show HN: StackOverflow.gg – AI-generated answers to every coding question
The video shows an answer being written out using some sort of animation technique to give it a dramatic effect. Looks gimmicky.
devlife··on Alphabet unit Verily to trim more than 200 jobs
All one is interested in is if he/she has a job. Rest is just corporate BS which one has to go along with.
devlife··on Ask HN: What will everyone do if everything is automated?
I think people will work longer hours. This story has been played before.
devlife··on Ask HN: Resources for learning how to read sheet music
Thanks. I'll check it out. It looks interesting.
devlife··on What are books or memoirs from great people that can help future great people?
The Polymath by Waqas Ahmed https://amzn.to/3MROulH
devlife··on Show HN: Warp, a Rust-based terminal
A terminal that makes you sign in? I think I'll stay away from this one.
devlife··on Bitcoin Is a Ponzi Scheme
It was suppose to be a medium of exchange, instead it became an object of speculation.
devlife··on The Reading Obsession
I wonder if the 500 page comment Buffett made was ever meant to be taken seriously. Maybe he just said for the sake of motivating students.
devlife··on Senior developers are leading the great resignation movement
How come there is no objection to the word master in the scrum master?
devlife··on Ask HN: Am I the Only One?
The standups are beyond hopeless. Grossly inefficient way of getting an update every day. we have not learned anything.
devlife··on Ask HN: What's your WFH set up like?
For OS I run Manjaro i3wm community edition.
devlife··on Ask HN: What's your WFH set up like?
I have been improving my home office since I started WFH about 4 weeks ago. Got myself a Philips 43 inch monitor today. Initially I thought it was too big but then after coding on it for about 3 hours, I am already used to it.
devlife··on Windows Terminal Preview 0.9
Look at this wagon, honey. It has no horse. FFS.
devlife··on Why We Terminated Our Partnership with Microsoft
It looks like you wanted to do OSS but you soon realised that there is potentially good money to be made in commercial software. Your company also spent all the years building a good product but the money bug bit you and you started charging exorbitant prices. The greed kicked in. And now you are whinging because MS came and ate your cake.

Please don't get me wrong on this, making money is the reason why we live in a world which has all these amazing things. But it is a jungle and survival matters here.

devlife··on Ask HN: What do people think of FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early)?
You are so right about ageism. I am in my mid-forties and I am already feeling it. I have been rejected from positions because of my age. The feedback most of the time: I am not a good cultural fit.

I do not get lured by Pool table, office BBQs, bowling nights etc. I just want to write good software.

devlife··on Ask HN: What technical books are you reading?
The art of Unix Programming https://amzn.to/2I2CVvX

My first reading of this book convinced me to move away from Windows. I usually read it at-least once a year.

devlife··on Ask HN: I'm confused
Thanks. I have started the process. Step 1 is to update the resume :)
devlife··on Ask HN: I'm confused
Thank you for your kind words. Funny enough, today I got an email saying that the role I'm interested in is too junior for me. This was an AngularJS role I applied for. I think the perception is that Angular/React/LatestJS-Framework are for younger lot.

As you suggested, the combination hopefully should put me in a good position. Thanks again for encouragement. I really need it.

devlife··on Ask HN: I'm confused
I can take some risk.

That would be ideal for me. How would I go about getting myself into such a situation? I feel that I have wasted too much time chasing new and sexy.
