devgutt··on Fuck Off As A Service (FOAAS)
haha, and probably at some point someone will write "FOP 2.0 and the Road to Hell"
devgutt··on Fuck Off As A Service (FOAAS)
This should use POST instead of GET, because you are proposing an action.
devgutt··on Malware Hidden Inside JPG EXIF Headers
yeah because libraries, which is available for scrutiny of a community (and you), is the same as a function that can run any arbitrary code in your program at runtime.
devgutt··on Malware Hidden Inside JPG EXIF Headers
because eval is the real source of the problem

devgutt··on Google flights
Does Anyone know any API that I can use to search for flights? or how expensive or difficult to get an agreement to use ITA software?
devgutt··on Posting to HN is like exposing yourself to the eye of Mordor
Yes, I've been there as well. I posted two Show HN without "any trick" or "any attention to details like the best time, best title, or whatever" just to watch my link drops to oblivion. Soon I realize that it would be much harder to get attention, and my just launched Startup would need a lot of SEO, Blog Articles, Build awareness using twitter, facebook, build a amazing land page, etc, etc...Well, I think about that for a while (one week actually) and I ended up deciding that I don't need SO MUCH traction or attention now. I need some clients that I can talk personally and smart enough to help me to evolve the product, and the next day I start to study Erlang (that is amazing btw) and NPL, so I can start to do the cool stuffs that I dream. I will focus in the product only. And if for some merit the product stands out without any "advertisement", so I actually know that I'm building something that people really want.
devgutt··on Announcing tromboone))) for business
I have a special plan for startups. If you are interested to put a webchat to talk with your visitors in your website, let me know.
devgutt··on Announcing tromboone))) for business
Thanks for the heads up Dave.
devgutt··on Announcing tromboone))) for business
I'm the creator of tromboone. Feedback? Questions?
devgutt··on 42
Can you categorize the next non-special number in the same way? Now k+1 is no longer non-special, but the reason why it is special still exists, so you can't use it a second time.
devgutt··on Show HN: tromboone))) - Use the knowledge of your customers to grow your startup
Hi, I'm the founder of tromboone. I created tromboone to allow startups iterate faster with their customers and partners. Use people's knowledge and skills to make your company grow faster and better. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Reach me at http://tromboone.com/gustavo.
devgutt··on The Startup Story I Want To Hear
>Any reasonable businessperson would see a company like Instagram for what it is: a server with some data on it.

I think you mean technical person, because a business person saw them correctly and acted accordingly: a threat (and this is all about growth, and this is the reason of separation between startups and regular companies).

devgutt··on The Startup Story I Want To Hear
Well, I agree with the PG's startup's definition. http://www.paulgraham.com/growth.html
devgutt··on Want to Spam Your LinkedIn Contacts and Be Humiliated? Try FounderDating
I'm in SF for a month and stumbled upon this web site that seems interesting to find co-founders and like minded entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and maybe some early feedback about my upcoming launch startup. I tried to sign up but dropped in the middle and received the follow email:

Hey, I saw that you started to apply for FounderDating yesterday but haven’t finished it yet. Just wanted to reach out and see if there is anything I can help with - I’m on the community team? Happy to answer questions or if you’re set highly recommend taking 3 minutes to finish it up Finish it up and submit here >> Here to help, Kristen

I responded:

Hi Kristen, I don't have a LinkedIn account. This is the reason that I haven't finished.

The answer surprised me. No workaround.

Hi: We do require a LinkedIn account, it's the easiest way for applicants to save time and pull in past experience and education. Would love to see your application, Kristen

Why on earth a company rely so tightly in another company like that. Well, the post gave me a clue.

devgutt··on Show HN: I learned to code to launch my new startup
I think "the reason thing" changing pictures all the time is an inconvenient/annoying distraction. Cool effect but it doesn't help to explain your service at all (neither sells it). Besides I don't need a zillion random reasons, I need ONE good reason to use the product. To find this one good reason, you need to put a lot of effort thinking and iterating, maybe with the aid of A/B Test. But I like the concept and the product, congrats for your launch.
devgutt··on "I can't do math" (2001)
But If a person says "I can't \"do\" mathematics" also could imply that the person would like to like it, or maybe the person at least respect the subject as important.
devgutt··on SF Restaurant Sign Calls Yelp ‘Bully,’ Integrity of Reviews Questioned
This is one of the good things about social networks like Facebook. A review itself doesn't matter unless you know the reviewer.
devgutt··on News is bad for you – and giving up reading it will make you happier
Also news has the dangerous ability to dim your faith in the humanity by exceptions.
devgutt··on On being a single founder for 7 years
Too complicated for an average user, too simple for a developer/designer...sorry, doesn't sound good for me. This said, in your shoes, I'd probably try to find a very specific niche, or maybe to turn into a service for instantly hot page creation, like 1 short-lived pages, or something like that...my 2 cents
devgutt··on 8 days. 8,000 forums
3 years to launch? It seems a lot of time without the user's consent. Although, nice work, very consistent.
devgutt··on If the Earth were 100 pixels wide
tested in Chrome only...and only "transform" didn't work, I had to add "webkit-" to work...to make simple, I prefered not put the moz line
devgutt··on If the Earth were 100 pixels wide
I didn't go through much, but I'm quite sure that in that scale, It would be a flat line
devgutt··on If the Earth were 100 pixels wide
Why not?

  (function () {
    var d=1;
    setInterval(function () {
       $('#Earth-Illustration').css({'webkit-transform':
       'rotate(' + ((d>36) ? d=2 : d++)*10 + 'deg)'})},100);
  }());
Please, consider Africa as Asia ;)
devgutt··on Comcast injecting JS
I disagree about the first one. I think that is easier to understand, easier to add more options and less prone to errors.
devgutt··on Making a Physical Product
Very cool, but I missed a board when I saw the video of the game. Still seems to be very interesting.
