I'm sorry, but am I the only one wondering about the ... tone of dhh's response? I mean, "fucking scumbags", is he like 14? He has every right to be upset, but the choice of words are in no way helpful. just saying..
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Glider, a better email client
Sounds great to focus on one good solution and then support more providers. All the best wishes for glider ( for selfish reasons :-) )!
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Glider, a better email client
Why are you only supporting GMail? I mean, basically IMAP should do it, right? Considering the recent drop of "don't be evil", I'm seriously thinking about returning to self-hosted email and it would be a shame if such a hopefully great service wouldn't work with that..

second.
derwildemomo··on Screencast: Make a remote data iOS table in minutes
I kind of dislike the fact that proven platform-supplied facilities like Core Data and the wonderful NSPredicate-Stuff isn't used ( from what I've read on the parse.com homepage ). Building an whole app around a proprietary framework, thereby abandoning the standard stuff wouldn't have been an option for too many projects I've done..
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Simple iOS Online/Offline Switch for Development
well, i'm afraid it's incompatible with the GPL though :-D
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Simple iOS Online/Offline Switch for Development
Yes, and it's unfortunately not caught in a reproducible ( does that word exist? ) manner by the existing tools like the connection conditioner. I'll look into it, I thought about extending this project and add some categories to widely used libraries like ASIHTTPRequest, CocoaAsyncSockets and NSURLConnection. Would be superuseful I suppose..
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Simple iOS Online/Offline Switch for Development
this is interesting. haven't thought about that. thanks!!
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Simple iOS Online/Offline Switch for Development
there are a few tools that can do that, like the Network Conditioner that comes with the developer tools or something like the Charles Proxy, but the special purpose of this little project is to fake the Reachability Information provided by the Device into completely offline, which is a bit different.
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Simple iOS Online/Offline Switch for Development
I'm streaming my music mostly, so that's a no-go for me, but of course a perfect solution if it works for you.
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Simple iOS Online/Offline Switch for Development
In fact yes. At least for stuff I do I consider it necessary to test almost all eventualities when it comes to online/offline behavior. This makes me have to switch between airplane and online a lot of times, and it is simply a matter of time. So I built this to avoid having to toggle on/off airplane mode all the time.

The per-port throttling is different, the rest is quite similar ( that's what I get from reading the page ).
derwildemomo··on Show HN: My iPad Hacker News Client, Hacker News Paper
first of all, great work. I really like the the presentation, something different. I've got a few issues with the app though:

- It's hard to flip pages, I opened articles often when I tried to flip one. Seems the gesture recognition needs some refinement

- I don't like the font and the header. I think it looks a bit cheap. At least the font in the sub-headline could look nicer.

- Get rid of those standard rounded rect-buttons in the article view. Doesn't need too much effort to style them a bit, and it makes a huge difference.

Thanks for this app, well spent money :-)

derwildemomo··on Ask HN: How do you know if you're burnt out or just being lazy?
That code you're writing in the 79th hour must be of astonishing quality! Seriously, I don't see how anyone can be productive after, say, 50 hours or so..
derwildemomo··on Windows 8 to have built-in anti-virus - there's good and bad news
I just can't stop thinking about that analogy where a car buyer is forced into buying brakes just after he bought a brand new car, because said car doesn't ship with working ones. Antivirus feels the same for me: why would I want to buy an OS that is flawed and needs to be fixed by buying third-party products? Microsoft adressing that issue isn't something I perceive as great news, it's rather sad they shipped windows so insecurely for such a long time.
derwildemomo··on BananaProd: Sell your products on your website in 7 minutes flat
Wow, the privacy statement is a google doc and the contact form is provided by a third party service, too. For a company that wants to me to process vital information using their service, that's a bit.. strange :-)
derwildemomo··on Why You Should Move To Berlin
Yes, but cultured code is not presenting themselves as if it were the hottest new startup ( they are btw not in berlin but in stuttgart ), they have just created an awesome app.
derwildemomo··on Why You Should Move To Berlin
So far, 6wunderkinder delivered a todo-list app for several platforms. Wunderkit is yet to be delivered, and I just don't see how a free app that is used by some people can be stated as "successful", especially given the fact that the most visible competitors, Things and Omnifocus are premium-priced. Spread: Certainly. Success: Menotreallysure.

hm so just like the german sound of 'ö' :-)
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Fluid iPad App Concept
as you can see in the "product detail row", I'm still struggling with that one – good catch. Haven't developed anything cool yet for that particular problem. But it's on the list!
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Fluid iPad App Concept
not a dumb question at all.

first let me clarify that i don't oppose the modal model in any way – as you said, it works just fine. My motivation was to find out whether the fluid model a) also works and b) has any advantages, and if yes which ones.

I didn't come to a conclusion so far, but I have observed some interesting stuff, both on the pro and con side: - Once understood, the interface makes navigation considerably faster - The individual space for content is necessarily smaller and - The individual content panes have to adjust to the constraint that their content can only adjust horizontally, as the vertical axis is reserved for the navigation.

I am opposed to saying that modal is inferior or something like that, it always depends on the context, the use case. In this very special case, it might be a better solution, but in many others, it fails hard ( think, for example, mail ).

derwildemomo··on Show HN: Fluid iPad App Concept
Nice that you noticed that, and thanks for the hint. but i guess i'll leave it that way, it just looks so swedish to me.. hm... :-)

Upcoming this weekend, I just finished the app so far last night, but I'm also very curious how people are going to interact and understand the interface. Concerning the random resizing, I mentioned it in another comment, it's one of the very subtle things that has to be done exactly right, otherwise it creates this awkward 'what the hell is going on' impression. I'm definitely on this :-)
derwildemomo··on Show HN: Fluid iPad App Concept
right. ( sometimes, there is just nothing more to say :-) )

thanks!

Right, the super-fancy "panels move out if another top-level element is selected" isn't implemented yet. So you're actually observing a bug, but I should have at least avoided it in the video.. thanks!
