derision··on Trump to sign executive order on social media Thursday
The US was never intended to be a true democracy. So all you're saying is a car isn't really a boat and there's nothing inherently wrong with that.
derision··on AWS services explained in one line each
and if I don't know what ZenDesk is, then you're just exchanging one confusing name for another
derision··on Facebook employees may face pay cut if they move to cheaper areas to remote work
You still need a fixed mailing address for many things, so I assume they'd use that
derision··on Facebook to shift permanently toward more remote work after coronavirus
Where do you get that idea from? Everywhere outside of major tech hubs the cost of living is significantly less and "quality of life" is actually better. I moved to Cleveland and yes there's less "trendy" things like restaurants but there's so many parks and places to go and activities and casual events
derision··on Tesla poised to reveal 'million-mile' battery as soon as this year
There's not much reason to buy a model s right now compared to the 3 imo. The model 3 is #1 on your list and sells 4-8x more than the next 5 on the list, including the e-tron
derision··on From Node to Deno
It's not just about hiding the complexity of SQL. You also get flexibility you don't have when writing SQL directly. For example, our laravel app uses pgsql in production environments but uses sqlite in our CI environment. We also migrated off of mysql which consisted only of changing a configuration value and verifying no issues by running tests
derision··on From Node to Deno
I've used a number of ORMs in the past and have not had a great experience, but recently have been using Eloquent with laravel and it's really great
derision··on Ask HN: Is there still a place for native desktop apps?
The web versions of Office software still feels way less polished than the desktop version. It just doesn't feel quite right
derision··on Ask HN: Is there a search engine which excludes the world's biggest websites?
How do you curate the stores?
derision··on Ask HN: What programming skills are required by HFT or Trading firms
I mean not all banks have minimum balances or any fees at all on checking accounts. Not sure what you mean by interest rates. If I have a savings account I'm getting paid interest. If I take a loan I'm paying interest in exchange for access to the capital. What exactly is the issue here?
derision··on Ask HN: What programming skills are required by HFT or Trading firms
Not all banks do that
derision··on Earnest Capital Trailhead
Please don't give that up without a fight. Trademarking trailhead would be similar to trademarking "road" or "highway" or something like that, which would be ridiculous
derision··on Redditor finds unsecured surveillance cameras seemingly placed by US government
Maybe Richard has a lot of weather anomalies
derision··on America’s Havana: Thousands Say “Ciao” to San Francisco
I think it actually is a good example, I think your argument would make sense if they were moving to a new growing location, but the fact that they're moving to a place they could have moved all along exactly shows that now there is some incentive that didn't exist before
derision··on Most complete guide on design sprints
Why?
derision··on Intel accused by workers of prioritizing chip output over safety
AMD's superior CPUs is why you should be buying them
derision··on Show HN: New PHP router wich is 50 times faster then Laravel
Does this test include testing against cached routes? Does your framework cache routes? Does this integrate into the framework the same as other routing frameworks? Does it have feature parity?

The biggest thing with all these "x is faster than y" only applies until you add in the rest of the features.

derision··on Ask HN: Is your company sticking to on-premise servers? Why?
How many employees do medium sized banks have?
derision··on Animals killed since opening this page
Would be interesting to have the opposite, animals bred since opening this page
derision··on Microsoft is infesting Windows 10 with annoying ads (2017)
It's a medal icon like kind of thing
derision··on Zoom 5.0
Printers have done this for decades
derision··on Uber discusses plan to lay off about 20% of employees
Move literally anywhere other than Silicon Valley and there's still plenty of jobs
derision··on Gallery of database schema diagrams of open-source packages
> another is Stripe which is a SAAS boilerplate built on top of laravel

Spark

derision··on Telehealth will be free, no copays, they said. But patients are getting billed
The low income / low schooled people I've worked with are actually the most knowledgeable about these scenarios for exactly this reason.
derision··on Tyson Foods takes out full-page ad: “The Supply Chain is Breaking”
Tyson chicken is garbage anyway. My meat suppliers have expressed that things are tough right now, but far from "breaking". I wouldn't be too upset if Tyson foods died.
derision··on Kanye West Vaults from Broke to Billions with Yeezy in Demand
I mean it sounds crazy but honestly I would use it. There's been more than a few times I've typed a message in haste and hit the wrong emoji. My keyboard already ranks them by recently used and somehow does some context matching, so current technology isn't even too far off from that idea.
derision··on Ask HN: What is your strongest argument against remote work?
> When you work remote, everything is scheduled, almost by definition

This assumption is not true in my experience. When shifting our company to full time remote we did have an uptick in scheduled events but we still have plenty of things that are unscheduled, unless you consider "hey can I call you right now?" A scheduled event

derision··on If a MacBook Pro runs hot or shows high kernel CPU, try charging it on the right
I have this one as well, it does a decent job of wicking heat too, the portion of the stand in direct contact with the laptop is noticeably warmer than the part that contacts the table
derision··on Permanent.org – Nonprofit, secure cloud storage
Geocities never claimed to be permanent
derision··on When did I run that command? Update your Bash prompt with the command start time
Most of the time I needed to know when I ran a command, I didn't know I would need it at the time I ran
