denysonique··on I went to Nigeria to meet a man who scammed me
Reminder that most advance-fee scams do not originate from Nigeria. Such articles like this one stereotype Nigeria in a falsely negative manner.

>While Nigeria is most often the nation referred to in these scams, they may originate in other nations as well. For example, in 2006, 61% of Internet criminals were traced to locations in the United States, while 16% were traced to the United Kingdom and 6% to locations in Nigeria.[15]

denysonique··on Facebook paid £4,327 corporation tax in the UK in 2014
Less taxes == more money in our pockets. Facebook higher taxed == FB Ads more expensive == Higher product prices for the consumers

Taxes are always as result paid by the consumers/employees, never by "businesses".

Money saved by Facebook corresponds to money saved in our pockets.

denysonique··on The Earl Grey programming language
Why not? Maybe most of us are not going to use it, but the free market of growing programming languages will have an overall positive effect by inspiring other langs, such as many features of ES6 being inspired by CoffeeScript et cetera.

Competition is good, competition is creativity.

denysonique··on Flywheel: Google's Data Compression Proxy for the Mobile Web
A compressing proxy is something fantastic for low bandwidth and/or high latency mobile browsing.

Is the source code available so I can run the proxy on my own private server?

If not, here are some open source alternatives that I have used:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ziproxy

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Janus (written in Node.js)

denysonique··on Ask HN: How do I learn how to become a good sysadmin?
Some of you may want to down vote this comment, however only those who ever installed Gentoo know the deep meaning behind that sentence.
denysonique··on Ask HN: How do I learn how to become a good sysadmin?
The first step is: Install Gentoo
denysonique··on Norway to switch off FM in 2017
What is the Norwegian government planning to do with the newly freed FM band? Release it to amateur music radio stations?
denysonique··on About Liberland
Indeed this is a trollish post, actually one of the many on the forum (which is a disclaimer about official statements)

From their website: Liberland will accept anyone of any background as long they are not Communists, Nazis or other types of extremists.

denysonique··on The Pirate Party is now measured as the biggest political party in Iceland
Where can their political programme be found? (in English)
denysonique··on Module Counts: Languages module growth chart
Good to see Node.js and Go to be the fastest growing languages.
denysonique··on Ask HN: What are some nice electronics courses that blend theory and practice?
http://www.falstad.com/circuit/ https://www.circuitlab.com/

I recommend LTSpice as a desktop circuit simulator/analyzer.

denysonique··on Mae Keane, the Last 'Radium Girl,' Dies at 107

denysonique··on Mozilla Shumway: A Flash VM and runtime written in JavaScript
Firefox is my main browser and it is a bit sad to see this Mozilla project barely working on Firefox as opposed to Chromium were it runs much smoother.
denysonique··on PHP Cross-Platform Desktop GUI Framework
This is a good project, it opens the desktop platform to PHP developers.

I am no fan of PHP myself and for this kind of requirement I would use node-webkit which provides seamless integration of the webview and host JS (node.js)

But the most important thing here is that it opens the doors to desktop programming to PHP devs and therefore we may see more useful apps for the desktop being developed, previously some PHP devs may have had some interesting concepts for the desktop but they weren't able to make them happen due to their lack of skills or time to learn GUI programming.

denysonique··on Ask HN: How to build a home automation system in 2014
Arduino + NRF24, and optionally a Raspberry PI as the main controlling device hooked up to the Internet and a Bluetooth receiver.
denysonique··on Your high IQ might kill your startup (2010)
"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."
denysonique··on Ask HN: Have your parents done anything to make you interested in Science or IT?
Nope, my parents did nothing at all to make me interested in computers or electronics. It was a fully self made decision. My father even lightly discouraged me from computers, telling me that long hours in front of the computer is something very unhealthy.

When I was a kid I spent more time outdoors socializing and playing sports, which I think turned out to be better for me than had I sat in front of the computer for 14 hours every day.

denysonique··on How To Become Uber Productive While Working For Yourself
Kensington Lock.
denysonique··on Why I’m ditching Evernote for Simplenote (and Notational Velocity)
Simplenote reminds me of ZimWiki an Open Source not taking app with tags, search etc: http://zim-wiki.org/screenshots.html
denysonique··on Carlsen wins game 9, only needs 1 draw in 3 remaining games
Hopefully Carlsen's becoming the FIDE World Champion will be loud in the media and will bring back the popularity of chess into our times.
denysonique··on Benchmarking Codswallop: Node.js vs. PHP
Node.js for web scraping usually is the obvious choice:

Scraping using jQuery syntax such as:

  $('table tr').each(function(ix, el) {
    names   .push($(el).find('td').eq(0));
    surnames.push($(el).find('td').eq(1));
  })
is more familiar to most web developers as opposed to the PHP syntax.

Even if Node was 5x slower than PHP I would still go for Node because of its easy jQuery syntax.

denysonique··on Zurb Ink: Responsive HTML Email Framework
There should be an option to email the docs page with examples to one self. In order to preview it in your own mail inbox(s).
denysonique··on Zurb Ink: Responsive HTML Email Framework
HTML Email is what sells.
denysonique··on Zeros in JavaScript
Yes, or you can use CoffeeScripts which automatically translates == into ===
denysonique··on Martin Gräßlin, KDE: "Good Bye, Ubuntu"
He once even accused me of 'attacking' him.

> If I as a developer feel personally attacked (and I did that) the chances that I with the maintainer hat on will revert my patch goes down and not up

My 'attacking' him comment: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=321190#c17

denysonique··on The Slash Programming Language
Node.js seems to be becoming a PHP successor. In regards of easy web development. With JavaScript you can both write for the front-end and the back-end. One language to rule them all. Very appealing to newcomers who want to learn webdev.
denysonique··on The man who lives without money
Balance.
denysonique··on T-Mobile Rocks
Not sure about T-mobile being so great in the UK either
denysonique··on Unix: When pipes get names
http://nodejs.org/api/net.html#net_net provides one example, instead of binding to a host/port it listens on a UNIX socket.
