Some people are just assholes. And you can’t keep them out of your walled garden.

That's me. I'm talking about me.

demondemidi··on NASA's problems with launch tower for SLS are getting worse
Just a reminder that no one will ever know how much private company SpaceX spends on their platforms because they are not required to divulge this info, nor how much their investors subsidize their government contracts (paid for by taxpayers).
demondemidi··on Americans' confidence in higher education has taken a nosedive
If only the author of the poll had studied statistics and psychology.
demondemidi··on Against choosing your political allegiances based on who is "pro-crypto"
You made up your own definition of politician to prove your point. Thats fallacious reasoning. I was in politics for four years not for power but to help people organize and prevent corporate takeover of family farms. Get bent, dude.
demondemidi··on I am starting an AI+Education company
Do you know what happens when you take VC money? Probably not. I assume OP wants to succeed and retain control. VC money is about the worst choice of funding for something like this.
demondemidi··on Researchers: Weak Security Defaults Enabled Squarespace Domains Hijacks
Ding ding ding.
demondemidi··on Musk reportedly commits to sending "around $45M a month" to a Trump Super PAC
1% of his documented wealth is $3,000 million. Kinda wish I could watch America fall like it was a tv show but unfortunately it’ll take me down with it.

He jelly

Citizens united isn’t even 20 years old. If you want to really feel depressed check out The Fairness Doctrine that Bush I abolished.
demondemidi··on I am starting an AI+Education company
Might wanna wait until the hype cycle is over in a few years.
demondemidi··on Researchers: Weak Security Defaults Enabled Squarespace Domains Hijacks
How do you know that won’t be sold to some other dumb org?
demondemidi··on Real-time audio programming 101: time waits for nothing (2011)
Wireless transmitters don’t immediately imply digital. But I see your point. I haven’t done sound reinforcement in since the 90s. The body mics we used weren’t digital. Shit I’m old. I’ll just stop talking because my initial post was an attempt to channel Randy Marsh showing the gang how to play a real guitar instead of Guitar Hero but then I talked out of my league. lol.
demondemidi··on Musical Notation for Modular Synthesizers
lol, yes! Thank you!
demondemidi··on Musical Notation for Modular Synthesizers
I saw Morton Subotnik at my college and he spoke of phase shift due to heating of poorly design VCOs in a serendipitous way rather than something to be feared.
demondemidi··on Show HN: I built a Jeopardy game maker with buzzer support
When I was in high school in the mid 80s I was in the av club and we filmed things for local access cable. We made a jeopardy game on a Commodore 64 and converted a joystick into three buttons with latches to prevent ties. We broadcast three episodes and had the most feedback to the local paper of any local access tv show. We were proud. Fun to still see kids doing this.
demondemidi··on AT&T says criminals stole phone records of 'nearly all' customers in data breach
Would be great if some of the smart people here could help explain why this is such a big deal to my less tech savvy friends. I know that I don’t know how the data broker to dark web hacker pipeline works, I just know security is important. But my family is like “big deal”.
demondemidi··on Real-time audio programming 101: time waits for nothing (2011)
That’s a good way to put it. But do mixing boards today really do ADC then DAC?!? Seems utterly pointless.
demondemidi··on As an Employee, You Are Disposable (2023)
Depends on your job and relevance to the company’s bottom land AND the ramp time for new talent. I’m in charge of delivering two products. If they canned me, their roadmap would be toast for the next five years. And we’re so short staffed there’s no one to fill my role or bring someone in and ramp them even if they could find someone.
demondemidi··on Ask HN: Is there a way to get notified when my cat has seizures?
Unless you can get home instantly and actually do something about it I think you will just be antagonizing yourself and be stressed all the time. :(
demondemidi··on AT&T says criminals stole phone records of 'nearly all' customers in data breach
They are criminals.
demondemidi··on AT&T says criminals stole phone records of 'nearly all' customers in data breach
When I went to college in the late 80s my ssn was automatically used as my student id. When I got my first bank account in 1990, they used my ssn as the account number.
demondemidi··on Real-time audio programming 101: time waits for nothing (2011)
“Big venues”. lol. I’m sure when Metallica played in russia in 1991 for the 4th largest concert in history it didn’t really happen because according to you they needed digital (glitchy) hardware.

What are you even talking about, man.

demondemidi··on Real-time audio programming 101: time waits for nothing (2011)
If you’re worried about glitches during live performances there’s a fool proof solution: play real instruments. ;)
demondemidi··on The Nine Ways: On the Enneagram
> Please don't enact your personal psychodrama on random people on the Internet

I wouldn't dream of competing with you.

demondemidi··on The price of gold – how bad do you want it? (2016)
HN at its finest: majority of the discussion on this article is about gold, and not the actual article.
demondemidi··on Don't use 7-segment displays (2011) [pdf]
Most LCD displays are custom: there are Chinese manufacturers that will design your LCD display and embed a SPI/I2C decoder for very low cost, so the simplest 8-bit PIC can drive one at 1 MHz (or less!)
demondemidi··on Don't use 7-segment displays (2011) [pdf]
Unlit liquid crystal 7-segement displays are the lowest-power & lowest-cost solution. You're absolutely right. The person you're replying to clearly doesn't have experience in the low-power/low-cost embedded world. In that space even 1KB of SRAM is a liability.
demondemidi··on PySkyWiFi: Free stupid wi-fi on long-haul flights
Clever exploit of a website security hole! Except you need to give your credentials to a trusted party.
demondemidi··on The Nine Ways: On the Enneagram
Fallacy. Just because your preferred belief framework has no supporting evidence or research doesn’t mean an actual science that you don’t like isn’t actual science. In other words, you can create your own alternative facts but they still aren’t facts.
demondemidi··on “Bullshit jobs” is a terrible, curiosity-killing concept
This is the entire premise of the Golgafrinchan Ark Fleet Ship B, which Douglas Adams wrote about 25 years earlier. But every conservative parent has made jokes about getting a degree "underwater basket weaving" for as long as I can remember.

I think real bullshit jobs are, for example, how third-generation children of billionaires get CEO roles on fictional companies / non-profits only to receive insane compensation, while the board does all the work. Just look at any modern dynastic family in the US, ignoring even the famous names.

demondemidi··on AI models that cost $1B to train are underway, $100B models coming
Wow, this CEO entitlement and wealth pissing contests are laughable.
