delinquentme··on DNA from hagfish being used to synthesize bulletproof slime
This make me wonder what the functional layers of abstraction IN synthetic biology are. Currently we think of intra-species gene sequence swapping as an applicable layer. But It seems the truly functional bits are when we can biologically encode and express control over organ development. Something like building a spider with X*N body mass to support Y clusters of silk glands.

delinquentme··on What the Head of Hiring at Google Doesn’t Understand About Skills
A screaming example of academic signaling, but where the "signal" is only _just_ stronger than the noise.

Karnaugh Maps: While I love vocab as much as any other kid out there. We're not calling them " colored-truth-tables " which is what the fuck it is. You're advocating that one is more rigorous than the other. However the only thing which is actually being conveyed is usage OF A TRUTH TABLE!

Academics gleefully accept this more specific vocabulary as a proxy for context knowledge.

Its a (fucking) shit workaround.

delinquentme··on Elsevier journals – some facts
This is written like an academic paper. Shorten it. Seriously. I know it takes more mental processing to simplify things but you're limiting your feedback pool to people who have 30 minutes to read something.

delinquentme··on Ask HN: Recommend tools to manipulate massive (5 million line) csv files.
Maybe I'm missing the part where you can just batch job it and read per line with hadoop / python and the csv lib?

Shoot me an email ( details in profile ) as I'd love to poke at something just for the line on my resume.

delinquentme··on A New—and Reversible—Cause of Aging
You're missing the point. Sure suffer in the minutiae of all the implications / implementation. End of story its a single question: Do we want to have this "problem" ? Yes.

To phrase differently: Lets NOT have planes because they might burst into flames once in a while. Do you see the absurdity ?

Want to know a good way to pull yourself out of squalor? Fix aging.

delinquentme··on How to turn into a tree after you die
> Failure to grieve can cause long-term psychological problems.

Sure. But this presumes that one is a lesser evil.

I'd defer to you which is worse: The Void, or someone having mixed emotions for a while.

delinquentme··on How to turn into a tree after you die
Cremation: Guaranteeing that your chances of reanimation are as near to zero as possible. Personally I'd go with cryonics, but thats after you move past the coping mechanisms.

delinquentme··on The Engineer Crunch
I was about to simply repost this sentence as its the HEAVY substantial bit of the post.

What does it mean? Throw engineering problems your CURRENT team has solved in the past at new candidates. I have seen only ONE startup ( even among the nastiest of hard problem seekers ) GET how substantial this is. So many of these companies are too busy to think about smart sourcing, at their own peril.

Test new engineers off past solved problems. End of story.

delinquentme··on Why the Heck is Git so Hard?
Its not. Work Git in a simple workflow. Start with adding, amending, rebasing and stashing. Additionally incorporate it into your workflow.
