deft··on Et Tu, Signal?
This isn't addressing the parent comment at all. Does the trust plan to market dump coins on their users?
deft··on Tell HN: Crypto Wallets Trust Wallet and Ledger appear to be compromised
He downloaded a bad app or gave his keys (unknowingly) to a web service. Or his other machines which he likely used to trade were compromised. Its his fault, there's no vulnerability.
deft··on Remove RMS from the GCC Steering Committee
You'd have to join the private discussions going on to see it for yourself.
deft··on Remove RMS from the GCC Steering Committee
That's exactly what they are intending to achieve, it's not about protecting women or whatever else. One of the debian leaders even admits this.

Embrace. Extend. And now, extinguish.

deft··on Remove RMS from the GCC Steering Committee
The important bits of this are at the end. The guy just doesn't like RMS and thinks since he hasn't made a commit recently he should be kicked off. The author states "this isn't a court of law" as justification for why it doesn't matter if the random accusations are true or not, then says removing him from gcc is "actions have consequences". True, but making a few social faux pas (assuming they are true, despite many being proven false) does not deserve this bizarre punishment.

Can this mob at least try or be intellectually honest? If RMS is a nuisance and you don't like him, just say so. Vote him off the board, don't organize a mob and collect a series of false accusations.

deft··on Free Software: An idea whose time has passed?
This guy is a nutcase trying his best to destroy a revolutionary movement and one of the few tools left for the individual to fight corporate domination. Flagged for being a paid attack.
deft··on The End of AMP?
Some of those technical people singing praises of AMP literally worked on it, helped it ruin the web and once finished left and renounced it: https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2020/12/i-have-resigned-from-the-go...
deft··on Richard Stallman is coming back to the board of the FSF
holy fucking HYPE. I'm glad I emailed advocating for him. He actually got back to me because the pansies running FSF's emails had no good answers to any of my questions.
deft··on Building a shared vision for Async Rust
No, its not a misconception. It still uses tokio. It still triples my compile time.
deft··on She Came to the US to Study with Only $300 – Now She’s a NASA Director
Wait a few years until the next conflict when torture is cool again.
deft··on Computer tool spots deepfakes via tiny reflections in the eyes
NFTs solve the deepfake problem.
deft··on Ask HN: What happens when someone copies an NFT onto another blockhain?
NFTs have a signature, that's it. What happens is that the author address changes. No one wants a mona lisa that says "deft" on the bottom corner.
deft··on Add a Dark Theme to a Ruby on Rails App
why not just use `:root`, define some variables for each color and media queries for prefer theme? I don't understand react theming or this approach, you can do it with 1 line of css.
deft··on Firefox plans to remove large URL bar
Hope so, that was a horrible update and I had to mess around with custom css to get rid of it. Not even sure the point, no other design system uses components like that. Click it and it gets bigger with a shadow like a floating window? What were they thinking?
deft··on What's New in SQLite 3.35
This release looks amazing. I use sqlite in almost every one of my sideprojects because it works everywhere and I can just open a file to inspect my db state which is really useful when mashing and trying to decide on table formats etc. The column delete and RETURNING additions are godsends, someone else said it already but this makes replacing postgres a lot easier.
deft··on About the March 8 and 9, 2021 Verkada camera hack
I love how pwned corporations can now use their loss as a marketing story. "We got hacked but our product saved us! Here's how you can get hacked and live to tell the tale too, first step is just Trust Us." EDIT: reading the comments here now, and CF is astroturfing the thread. LOL.
deft··on Apple has gone to extraordinary lengths to make scroll bars invisible
Why? Stop making bad software and laughing about how it screws people over.
deft··on Hackers break into thousands of security cameras, exposing Tesla, jail, hospital
monero mining botnets have been doing this for years. Every penny counts, as long as the SoC doesn't overheat and melt its a trickle faucet forever
deft··on Deliveroo to offer 50M pounds of stock to customers
This kind of offering is only a very small step above a straight up ponzi scheme. We are at the top of the bubble and no one knows what to do with their dollars that are rapidly losing value. Order your shitty fast food and get a discount on your shitty stock.
deft··on Flutter 2
No, I won't help you. The OP post is about how great flutter is and you're in the comments telling everyone it will actually be useable soon and asking us to test it for you on common browsers.
deft··on US central bank payment system down for 'hours'
No matter how slow bitcoin gets it never goes down. Absolute worst case scenario is a steep difficulty curve that takes awhile to fall back down, only slowing block production.

Edit: in order for it to get "so slow its stopped" more than half of the miners would need to go offline and not rejoin for hours.

deft··on Bitcoin’s Overnight Collapse Probability Is About 50%
A blog by a guy going by Trolly, that can't even properly set up HTTPS, and admits he makes things up in the headerline means absolutely nothing. Tether has been involved in shady dealings for a long time. Last bull run people like this guy were claiming it was all going to blow up and tether was worthless etc etc etc. That never happened. This hysteria is very common for nocoiners, why are they so worried about my worthless bitcorns?
deft··on Give Students User Freedom
Freedom is the ideology that America was founded on, I'd assume most Americans prefer to have their nation's values followed. Most software is chosen on ideological grounds, Zoom was picked because it's popular not because its the best tool. The software impedes them doing their work, that's a major message FSF and others are trying to send: free software benefits the user!
deft··on [dead]
Lincoln may not be evil, but he's a man of his times and we are in a different world now. Statues get torn down, that to me is a sign of progress. People recognize he wasn't an angel, maybe the best America could do at the time but the hope is to have heroes even greater.

The line about repeating "you are free" is straight out of 1984. In a truly free society the question and self affirmations would not be needed.

deft··on Facebook shuts popular stock trading group amid GameStop frenzy
Well luckily the groups fleeing to host servers there have no reason to do that. When they want to criticize Putin they can do it from American servers.
deft··on Parler drops offline after Amazon pulls support
Yes, it's called Facebook Group Admin privilege. Has nothing to do with race.
deft··on My personal wishlist for a decentralized social network
They were for a bit but they've defederated and the software is a huge mess. There are right wing free speech instances but they don't have any of the media attention.
deft··on Show HN: iMessage Wrapped – your year in texts
Most people I talk to still text me. I don't have facebook or instagram I think is the main reason.
deft··on I Have Resigned from the Google AMP Advisory Committee
The damage is done. AMP has been criticized since its inception, the author is no hero for realizing it after making it this way for years.
deft··on The YouTube ban is un-American, wrong, and will backfire
If you believe in science you are likely a neo-religious fundamentalist. Science doesn't need to be believed. The process puts forward propositions. You either think the scientific method has purpose and helps us understand our reality or not.
