deepkut··on How Basecamp Next got to be so damn fast without using much client-side UI
I just realized how "next last year" is an oxymoron... Or is it? A reference to the present per chance?
deepkut··on Did You Hear We Got Osama?
I can't tell you how many times I've explained this to friends. You hit this spot on. Catchy title too, I clicked it probably as a result :)
deepkut··on Startup: Would you pay a small fee to locate a great domain name?
Probably not, but maybe I would if I ever made profit on that domain. I think the upfront $100 cost is too much.
deepkut··on Your Phone Loses Value Pretty Fast (Unless It's an iPhone)
This is an incredibly interesting article though I would urge you to include some methodology. With some proper evidence behind these bold statements, you'd be making headlines at TechCrunch (you still might anyways)!

Great read, I'm now interested in your business.

deepkut··on ASCII interactive fluid animation
I'd pay $5 for this if it were a screen saver and didn't suck up too much CPU.

If you do end up making that, shoot me a message.

deepkut··on MPAA lied to Congress about the jobs number
It brings me joy to my heart to see Maddox on here after not having been to his site in 7 years.
deepkut··on How to nap
Old, but interesting. I wonder if hackers nap more often?
deepkut··on Disqus Research: Pseudonyms Drive Communities
This doesn't surprise me. Pseudonyms are the middle ground between anonymous and real. This article seems to point to the fact that pseudonyms are the best of both worlds, ie more likely to comment (from anonymity), while the quality remains high (from actual identity).

Whether or not this report is comprehensive, and I believe it to be pretty airy, this is still extremely fascinating.

deepkut··on The New Web Typography
I'm with you here duhoang--

This may or may not make some designers' lives easier considering some of these additions are not cross-browser compatible.

deepkut··on How Yoga Can Wreck Your Body
"With power comes great responsibility." Yoga is powerful, use it wisely.
deepkut··on PayPal forces buyer to destroy $2500 pre-WWII antique violin in dispute
This is a great case of a "picture is worth a thousand words." That picture is heart breaking...

STRIPE STRIPE STRIPE!

deepkut··on How I Designed Code Year in 1 Hour
Gorgeous design, nice work. Your call to action, the big red "Start learning!", is well done and placed effectively. I like it.
deepkut··on Node.js modules you should know about: everyauth
Definitely starring this for future reference, may come in handy as node.js gets more popular. Thanks!
deepkut··on IPhone 4 in pure CSS3
Despite the snide comments, this does demonstrate the power of CSS3, which I think was the designer's intention! On that note, NICE.
deepkut··on 60beat iPad Gaming Accessory Could Be The iOS Missing Link
Regarding question 1: DAC on the controller, ADC on the iPad

Regarding question 2: I'm unsure, but I couldn't imagine this being an issue. Very clever, pretty cool!

Thanks for sharing this ricardobeat

deepkut··on Ending the Infographic Plague
The annual cost of Princeton tuition in 2010 was $48,580. This is not true. That's the cost of tuition + room/board + etc.
deepkut··on Crunchfund VC
How would you say your service differs from Stripe? I love Stripe, so I'm always closed minded when it comes to competitors. Hit me!
deepkut··on Show HN: My Zappos/Twilio hackathon entry
Zappos will love this. Great idea and I love the name. As a critique, I'd recommend rearranging the form/descp/iphone image on the launch page. I think you rather have users read what this is before the "SIGN UP" on the left!
deepkut··on Ask HN: Better 1st person (My Photos) or 2nd (Your Photos)?
I agree with gerad, use "My" -- it's shorter, cleaner, and appeals to the user more. "Your" creates distance between the app and the user, if one were all alone, "My" would still exist, but "Your" would not.
deepkut··on RFC: Blanking all Wikipedia as SOPA protest
While I agree taking a neutral stance is important for an organization like Wikipedia, it is imperative the world understands the impact SOPA will have. A majority of the people I know understand enough about SOPA to say, "I'm against that," but

(1) these people do not resemble your average American, and

(2) even they couldn't tell you much more than "it isn't good," or "it's what the entertainment biz wants."

People really need to understand SOPA. It needs to make headline news. This will push it there.

deepkut··on Interactive CSS3 lighting effects
This is absolutely gorgeous.
deepkut··on STFU About What Women Want
Favorite Line: "I want to wear heals, and write jQuery, sometimes at the same time."
deepkut··on Google Currents - Yet another contribution to the UI-fragmentation of Android
Wow. Makes me wonder: Does Apple have a design division that does all the design? I assume that Google does not, ie they have a "Google Maps" division, a "Google Currents" division, etc. that just creates the product, and delivers it. I wonder how these companies differ in this regard?

Thoughts?

deepkut··on Louis CK self-produces, self-publishes content on his webpage
Add that to the list of how awesome this guy is.
deepkut··on How Elite Business Recruiting Really Works
Well there you go. That's why I'm not interested in finance/consulting.
deepkut··on INFOGRAPHIC: Wal-Mart Is HUGE
Hmm... The slug seems to imply this infographic designer does not like Walmart. Nonetheless, great infographic.
deepkut··on Wordless: stop writing Wordpress themes like it's 1998.
Interesting concept, but like others have said, I'm not sure if you're catering to the right crowd. I've taken a handful of computer science classes and am a web designer at heart, yet even I would not be very inclined to use this. I would rather do it from scratch if I'm interested in learning these newer languages like CoffeeScript. Wordpress is more for those who don't know anything and/or want to build a semi-customizable blog/website quickly.

That being said, this is a fantastic project and I applaud you for doing this. I hope those who do use it end up enjoying it.

deepkut··on Instant CSS, JS, HTML or DOM documentation
Wow, extremely helpful. Thank you for this tool. Though it did take 2-3 seconds to load (which resulted in me refreshing the page thinking it wasn't working), the documentation is fantastic. I appreciate the contribution!
deepkut··on Poll: Would you like a "Panic button" service to lock down your online accounts?
Yes. Though I wouldn't pay for it. I have friends who would, but they're a bit more paranoid than I am.
deepkut··on "What I Miss About Counterstrike" - Blog authored by CSS legend JonMumm
Few news articles (even on HN) 'move' me, but this one did. To all those whom were among the best at a popular game, you understand.

Some interesting comments: like whether playing CS, or any other game, is "worth it." I agree with kejadlen, "does it make you happy?" Though heroin, at some point in time, makes addicts "happy." One thing is for certain though, the feeling of mastery gets harder and harder to find later in life, at least with regards to professions or wealth.
