deepkut··on Apply with me to YC in the next 3 days and change the world
Bitcoin Paper:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/86764784/Diepenbrock-BitcoinReport...

Due note that the paper was written in April of 2011. However, this shouldn't change any aspects of the legal analysis.

If you have any more questions, or just want to talk, let me know!

deepkut··on Apply with me to YC in the next 3 days and change the world
Conceptually, I believe Bitcoins, or some derivative of them, will change the world. However, after writing a 25 page report on the legality of Bitcoins, I'm convinced the US government will view them as "domestic terrorism."

Yes, you read that correctly.

There are laws that state that anything that can be used to facilitate money laundering OR threaten the US economy is illegal.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm one of the most active Bitcoin fans I know, I think the concept is unbelievable. I just wanted you to know that there might be some additional legal barriers as you can gain traction.

Stay hungry, stay foolish.

I really like Coursekit's -- http://www.coursekit.com

I used it as inspiration for this design at http://www.greekdex.com

deepkut··on Show HN: Developed a small web-app in 6 days. Help me make it better.
>We remove all the drudgery in managing lists manually. At $4.95 per queue...

I wouldn't put a price tag in the description so quickly. Most won't understand what you're up to until 3-4 sentences in, and you're already asking for money.

Hope that is helpful.

deepkut··on Show HN: Q&A for HN users
For some reason, this is more friendly / easier than Quora. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's Quora's red, I've never liked that.

On a more specific note, have you considered making the answer textarea not highlighted upon focus? It seems to clash with the surrounding divs.

I also love how I can follow who is in YC right now considering they somehow gained word before everyone else :)

deepkut··on Milk Inc. to shut down Oink on March 31st
Question: what is the font they used for the "OINK" logo? If anyone has an idea, I would love to know.

What the Font was unsuccessful in determining it.

deepkut··on Designers read this and developers will love you
I absolutely love your sidebar. Permission to mooch? :)
deepkut··on Show HN: We'll guess competitors’ keywords,we'll predict your App Store position
This sounds like a pitch more than a comment. How do you differ from Appcodes?
deepkut··on Cleaner Hacker News
*Do note that for those applying to YC, the styling does not carry over to the application pages. The entire page is orange.

This is not an unbearable problem or anything, but just wanted to point it out!

deepkut··on Cleaner Hacker News
The designer inside of me is loving this. Thank you.

While I also love the retro feel of the regular HN, this is just so much easier on the eyes. And when considering how long I spend on HN these days, this is probably a good idea... My eyes will thank me in the future :)

deepkut··on Ask HN: Would businesses pay to identify "Connector" or "Maven" users?
Wow, thanks for the advice. I would love to chat with you if you have the chance.
deepkut··on Chute (YC W12) Launches A Twilio For Photos
Now this is smart.
deepkut··on Ask HN: Would businesses pay to identify "Connector" or "Maven" users?
Well, can't they make use of the information once they know who the connectors are? We can offer deals or special customer service to these users, but we can encourage others to!

One thing we could do is provide "invite code" that a company can put on their website to encourage their users to invite these people.

deepkut··on Show HN: A way for entrepreneurs to connect with business problems to work on
First impression from someone a bit tired on a Sunday night (sorry!), I don't quite understand what this is.

Second impression: How much will "Dealing with people" help anyone? I don't mean to sound like a cynic, and this could be valuable if you get the right "culture" on here, but I think you need more.

deepkut··on Ask HN: Would businesses pay to identify "Connector" or "Maven" users?
So does that mean we should focus on convenience and usability? :)

Thanks for the response by the way!

deepkut··on Ask HN: Would businesses pay to identify "Connector" or "Maven" users?
Could you elaborate on:

"Otherwise you're limiting yourselves to businesses that both have the vision to see the potential AND have the available resources to implement it into their workflow."

I don't quite follow what you mean.

deepkut··on Ask HN: Would businesses pay to identify "Connector" or "Maven" users?
Well, I don't think you gave this a fair read.
deepkut··on Justin Kan Launches Exec (YC W12) For Real-Time Mobile Jobs
This market sounds horizontal, but it sounds like they're managing it well. Excited to see how this pans out.
deepkut··on CoffeePhysics: A JS/CS Physics Engine
Damn, 60 FPS? Makes me reminisce of celebrating ~30 FPS in Counterstrike
deepkut··on JQuery Mobile 1.1.0 RC1
Typo: our scrolling feels 100% native because is is.

Now if only I could upload a font... This is cool, keep up the good work :)
deepkut··on Mechanical Turk Stations for the Urban Poor
This sounds like the type of idea that Thiel would be into. I applaud your creativity and these discussions regarding minimum wage are surprisingly pertinent.
deepkut··on Show HN: HackerNews News Recommender
Sweet, this is awesome. I'll give you some feedback in a week or two after I give it a spin!
deepkut··on The Problem with Facebook Connect
You may have misinterpreted what I said because I don't quite get what your point. FB connect is not effective for certain markets. Good luck getting cryptologists signing up for your FB Connect website.
deepkut··on The Problem with Facebook Connect
And I also apologize if my anecdote came off as a bold general statement that was backed any formal logic or stats. It wasn't, and I didn't mean to make my argument based on that.
deepkut··on The Problem with Facebook Connect
Ok, in hindsight, I agree that might have been a pointless statement in the grand scheme of things, but 500/3000 Greeks in one week is significant market penetration. This is also a MVP that we developed in 4-5 weeks, so I say that with pride.
deepkut··on The Problem with Facebook Connect
Well, we're convinced that 99.9999% of Greeks have Facebooks. But all I'm trying to say here is that FB Connect might be extremely effective for certain markets, and horrible for others.
deepkut··on The Problem with Facebook Connect
I agree with you, I'm not trying to make a general statement that is true for everyone. Just trying to point out that FB Connect might not be viewed as negatively in certain markets.
deepkut··on The Problem with Facebook Connect
I agree with you that FB Connect has tremendous potential, but I disagree with you regarding how negative people view it.

Using FB Connect for Greekdex has (seemed) to be effective. You must consider your audience--Greeks, even at UPenn, are less worried about their "sensitive" data in comparison to a startup that targets techies who are very aware and paranoid about their data.

I wrote about how companies should "stand on the shoulders of Facebook," feel free to read about it here:

http://blog.greekdex.com/post/17396768249/stimulate-the-econ...

EDIT: I made a bold statement out of pride that was relatively unrelated to the discussion.
