deepfriedchokes··on Steve Bannon Proposes Using ICE in Elections
This is a systems problem, not a human problem. It was inevitable that any weaknesses in the system would eventually be exploited. We should focus on fixing the system so this cannot happen again.
deepfriedchokes··on Data centers in space makes no sense
The most likely outcome is that no one will be punished for anything in the Epstein files.
deepfriedchokes··on Data centers in space makes no sense
Probably this bit on page 4, which parent comment addresses: “More efficient cooling architecture taking advantage of higher ΔT in space.”
deepfriedchokes··on How ICE knows who Minneapolis protesters are
This should not be legal.
deepfriedchokes··on Slopaganda: AI images posted by the White House and what they teach us
I think at some point it would be more useful to talk about this and other behavior by this administration from a mental health perspective.
deepfriedchokes··on Apple buys Israeli startup Q.ai
Sounds pretty invasive for privacy, if this was ever paired with smart glasses in public.
deepfriedchokes··on Apple, What Have You Done?
No Apple Pencil Ultra? What a missed opportunity.
deepfriedchokes··on Tech CEOs attend Amazon-funded "Melania" screening at White House
Capitalists only care about capital. Witness how fast the DEI stuff was jettisoned once it was determined to be unprofitable under the current administration.
deepfriedchokes··on White House Posts Altered Photo Showing Arrested Minnesota Protester Crying
Would this count as libel? It’s a publication of a false, damaging statement in a fixed form (writing, print, picture, broadcast) that harms a person's reputation, exposing them to hatred, contempt, or ridicule.

Regarding option (2), isn’t SCOTUS supposed to rule on the legality of Trump’s tariffs soon?
deepfriedchokes··on Justice Dept. launches criminal investigation of Minnesota governor
“In 1969, Schenck was largely overturned by Brandenburg v. Ohio, which limited the scope of speech that the government may ban to that directed to and likely to incite imminent lawless action (e.g. a riot).”
deepfriedchokes··on Google's Universal Commerce Protocol aims to make shopping AI-native
Won’t this destroy any small seller who can’t compete on price?
deepfriedchokes··on The unreasonable effectiveness of the Fourier transform
Probably sexual division of labor.
deepfriedchokes··on US attack on Venezuela raises fears of future Greenland takeover
The wife of a presidential aide saying something is not worthy news.
deepfriedchokes··on Market design can feed the poor
Perhaps we should adopt a system that doesn’t create, or rely on, poverty?
deepfriedchokes··on The era of jobs is ending
Not according to our current economic system.

In Capitalism, the economy exists to provide for Capital.

deepfriedchokes··on 'Nobody wants to come': What if the U.S. can no longer attract immigrant doctors
If the residency restrictions were removed the labor market would work as intended. We’re doing this to ourselves to protect private profits at the expense of people’s lives.

deepfriedchokes··on U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
If all this stuff that happens during Trump’s presidency gets normalized, and not reversed and severely punished, it’s going to get worse. They’ll push the Overton Window as far as they can in their pursuit of power.
deepfriedchokes··on I Want You to Understand Chicago
We shouldn’t need to count on voters dying to avoid outcomes like this. Our institutions are broken if they can’t protect the public from a mentally ill public official on a power trip.
deepfriedchokes··on ICE and CBP agents are scanning faces on the street to verify citizenship
Lots of lawsuits forthcoming. Who’s going to pay for them? We are.
deepfriedchokes··on Pentagon orders states' national guards to form 'quick reaction forces'
That seems to be intentional, no?

It’s a pretty common tactic among authoritarians, and abusers in general, to provoke violence and then claim the resulting self defense as an unwarranted attack.

deepfriedchokes··on Texas Attorney General sues Tylenol makers over autism claims
That’s what I was thinking. This is a good thing! It will force the science to be evaluated.

I’m sure the inevitable retraction of autism links will get the proper coverage it deserves.

deepfriedchokes··on President Reagan's Radio Address to the Nation on Tarrifs, 1987
I think this has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with mental health.
deepfriedchokes··on Who benefits from the MAHA anti-science push?
I think it’s much simpler than that.

It’s just a bunch of power games by individuals with NPD engaging in elite overproduction.

deepfriedchokes··on RFK Jr. Must Go
Perhaps we should all ask why people want to eat cake, rather than focusing on the cake itself. These high carbohydrate foods stimulate dopamine release. People are eating their feelings, because they don’t feel good. Ultra processed foods existed before the obesity epidemic began. What changed was economic, the cost of living, and everyone’s quality of life.

Food is a readily accessible drug, and everyone is self medicating.

deepfriedchokes··on Apple defined ICE as a "protected class" in blocking anti-ICE apps
They do it in China? Customer needs and wants are profit driven decisions.
deepfriedchokes··on Toyota aims to launch the ' first' all-solid-state EV batteries
From an article last month linked in the above press release:

“Toyota’s all-solid-state EV battery plans officially gained approval from Japan’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (METI). The certification gives Toyota the green light to develop and build next-gen EV batteries as part of Japan’s plans to boost domestic supply.”

Seems like it’s more legit this time.

deepfriedchokes··on Colombia's president says boat struck by US was carrying Colombians
The U.S. government will never submit to any foreign entity and no U.S. president will ever allow the imprisonment of a former president out of self preservation. This is why Trump and his people are acting so aggressively; the worst that will ever happen is they’ll be removed from office.
deepfriedchokes··on Eating capitalism: How our food got hijacked by profits
Can small scale regenerative farming scale enough to feed everyone? I would love to read more if you can point me to some resources.
deepfriedchokes··on Show HN: Autism Simulator
I don’t think it would be possible, as a lot of what ASD people process consciously is processed subconsciously by neurotypical people (which contributes greatly to ASD burnout).

Something I’ve thought might be a helpful AI app, for a product like smart glasses or earbuds with integrated cameras, if it were possible, is a live nonverbal communication translator, to help with the cognitive load of ASD people, as cognitive empathy is often a performance issue socially.

I’ve seen a lot of criticism that using AI as a cognitive crutch is unhealthy, but the same argument could be made about mechanical advantages, beasts of burden, or machines, reducing humanity’s physical fitness. AI’s potential to be a cognitive force multiplier is its killer app.
