debarshri··on Show HN: Kula – Lightweight, self-contained Linux server monitoring tool
rrdtool conbined with graphite was powerful back then when metrics and logging was selfhosted.

I think anything interesting more cleaner route would be to create a plugin in postgres and introduce a type that upload the large file in s3.

It would reduce thr complexity.

Postgres plugins are very underrate and under utilized

debarshri··on An interactive map of Flock Cams
Traffic camera along various sensors for emission control, sound and noise control, gunshot detection etc. to name a few.

Seat belt detection, phone detection, lane violations etc. at the application layer.

I can talk about Sensysgatso, where I used to work. They have quite some tech-forward platform.

Small counties generate huge revenues with traffic cameras.

I think reducing crime and road safety is an excuse.

There are true innovators in the traffic camera space but i think counties often choose vendors who give them best ROI.

debarshri··on Show HN: Agent Swarm – Multi-agent self-learning teams (OSS)
Now you rest in peace.
debarshri··on Show HN: Agent Swarm – Multi-agent self-learning teams (OSS)
It is about - when will it go rouge.
debarshri··on Claude Code Remote Control
Thats not true. Even for testing things, you need to do thoroughly now because standards are high.
debarshri··on Tailscale Peer Relays is now generally available
For someone who is new in this technically does it work like turn and sturn? Relay communicating over outbound ports? Wouldnt this run into scaling issues?
debarshri··on Is Show HN dead? No, but it's drowning
I think it is true with any distribution channel. When people figure out that it works, then everyone ends up bombarding that channel till it saturates.

Vibe coding is not helping either, I guess. Now it is even cheaper to create assets for the distribution channel.

I think same thing happened with product hunt.

debarshri··on AI is destroying open source, and it's not even good yet
We have been doing this lately; when we hit a roadblock with open source, we run Claude code for fixing OSS issues and contributing back. We genuinely put effort into testing it out thoroughly.

We don't want to bother maintainers, as they can focus on more important issues. I think a lot of tail-end issues and bugs can be addressed in OSS.

We leave it up to the maintainers to accept the PR or not, but we solve our problems as we thoroughly test the changes.

debarshri··on AI is destroying open source, and it's not even good yet
Pretty much sure did not create bugs. Because I validated it thoroughly, as I had to deploy it into production in a fintech environment.

So I am pretty much confident as well as convinced about the change. But then I know what I know.

debarshri··on AI is destroying open source, and it's not even good yet
I think building enough barriers, processes, and mechanisms might work. I don't think it needs to be human effort.
debarshri··on Running NanoClaw in a Docker Shell Sandbox
Kata containers are the right way to go about doing sandboxing on K8s. It is very underappreciated and, timing-wise, very good. With ec2 supporting nested virtualization, my guess is there is going to be wide adoption.

This weekend, I found an issue with Microsoft's new Golang version of sqlcmd. Ran Claude code, fixed the issue, which I wouldn't have done if agent stuff did not exist. The fix was contributed back to the project.

I think it is about who is contributing, intention, and various other nuances. I would still say it is net good for the ecosystem.

debarshri··on Oat – Ultra-lightweight, zero dependency, semantic HTML, CSS, JS UI library
On second look. It could be spam. This is disappointing.

It is probably not bots. The reach of authors is pretty good. He actually loyal fan followers in india. You can see the same when he shows up on a podcast or talk.

I think theres alot indian developers who are hacker news as well as on github and other forums.

debarshri··on Show HN: SQL-tap – Real-time SQL traffic viewer for PostgreSQL and MySQL
Also, just to add to this, to run compile once and run anywhere, you need to have a BTF-enabled kernel.

We do something similar in adaptive [1].

What you can also do is add frontend and backend user to the proxy and then agents won't ever get the actual db user and password. You can make it throwaway too as well as just in time if you want.

Traditionally it was database activity monitoring which kind of fell out of fashion, but i think it is going to be back with advent of agents.

debarshri··on AI doesn’t reduce work, it intensifies it
intensification = productivity for me.
debarshri··on There is no skill in AI coding
I believe creativity is a skill. Someone who is creative and knows how to approach a complex problem is someone who creates value.

In the end of the day, vibe coding kind of replicates and accelerate your thoughts and ideas by 100x. It removed techincal complexity and mundane tasks from your workflow.

debarshri··on Show HN: Minimal – Open-Source Community driven Hardened Container Images
This is great. I have been talking to quite some vendors in the space. I have looked in docker hardened images too. They have made it free too.

I think the problem in general is hardened image market is keeping up with CVEs and making sure the catalog is vast so that it covers all the images and nuances.

Responding and patchibg CVEs with an SLA is the KPI of the vendors. As much as I would like cheer for you, doing it as an opensource initiate with a guaranteed SLA is going to be painful for you as maintainer without profit as a motive.

debarshri··on Show HN: I Built a Sandbox for Agents
This is a genuine concern. But this sounds a bit independent of the execution environment. It could either be containers or VMs.
debarshri··on Show HN: I Built a Sandbox for Agents
But in the context of agents. Does it matter?
debarshri··on Show HN: I Built a Sandbox for Agents
Can someone elaborate with whats wrong with having containers for sandbox?
debarshri··on Parliament tells Dutch government to keep DigiD data out of American hands
It is kind of sticky situation for the country that is debating data sovereignty.

The fundraising market is very interesting right now. You have to have some AI and agenr narrative without which you do not look very forward looking. You might be a database company with million in revenue but if you do not have a AI narrative you would not be perceived as forward looking as compared to a startup thats burning through millions in token with no path to profitability. It has become table stakes and the new reality for startups.
debarshri··on London–Calcutta bus service
If this fascinates you. Im sure you will also be fascinated by maharaja express [1] which is orient express equivalent in India. Fairly expensive and targeted towards foreign tourists but i do find it fascinating.
