deaux··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
The reaction of Americans to Abu Ghraib and the reaction of Israelis to the - larger scale - torture of Palestinian prisoners, is miles apart. It's also why there was always an end in sight to the US invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, yet there isn't for Gaza until it has not a single Palestinian left.
deaux··on U.S. appeals court upholds designation of Anthropic as supply chain risk
You're talking to a bot.
deaux··on Plan mode is dead
What, are you suggesting that there were people already successfully doing agentic coding in CLI harnesses with a good number of features before November 2025, the moment HN collectively deciding that it was now "good enough", if using "Opus on Claude Code"? Blasphemy!
deaux··on Dutch governments builds alternative for Microsoft based on NixOS
3) That half of HN works at these companies and loves to whitewash their conscience by commenting "look at how awful they are" on any company that's interpreted as 1% worse. You have MS devs who comment on Amazon who comment on Meta who comment on Palantir comment on Flock comment on NSO Group, as this is roughly the "perceived hierarchy".

If you're in US big tech you're working directly for the regime and fully complicit, end of.

deaux··on Claude Opus 5.5
Your original comment painted it as a China moat against US/EU labs. Completely different from instead being a unique disadvantage to EU labs by which the US labs, among others, aren't really affected.
deaux··on Tell HN: OpenAI $500 ProMax plan listed in API
Claude subs are great value again ever since Astra release moved lots of people to OpenAI subs. Even moreso since Opus 5.5 release.
deaux··on How we learned to stop worrying and love campus surveillance
Of course it won't. It never has. The people making these decisions and profiting from them will be long gone, even if it ends up hurting the university (which it won't)

> A German startup cannot legally do any of these tactics required to bypass Anthropic/OAI's counter-measures.

A German startup cannot legally do what Anthropic/OpenAI have done. And neither could Anthropic/OAI themselves. What's your point again?

deaux··on Claude Opus 5.5
Hah. Anthropic and OpenAI used plenty of similarly illegal workarounds to obtain data to create their first models. If a Chinese company had done that first you'd be here saying

> That is only possible in China because any other US/EU lab doing the same would get into massive legal trouble.

deaux··on Claude Opus 5.5
> The issue with distillation is: one lab spends $$$ on bleeding edge R&D and expensive RL runs to improve capabilities

The issue is doing.. exactly what OpenAI and Anthropic have done to get where they are?

No, there is no issue.

> but maybe that's because it doesn't look like something Claude has vibe-coded

Yes, it's solely because it's new. Back when the very first Opus vibe-coded websites appeared, we found them refreshing. By the 3rd one, we no longer did.

How are you right now not drunk while munching on cake and playing an online slot machine?
deaux··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
No, there's a class of apps that are very much small enough to not require them, yet still deliver value. You're thinking too large.
deaux··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
It's sad that even so many greenfield businesses still default to it. There is no longer a need to. The barrier to alternatives used to be technical, now that's gone. 99.9% of web apps' CI needs are solved by a $10/month box.
deaux··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
"This" is lazy but yes, this. Especially in the app space, 90% of the stuff coming out has barely any "do people who aren't me actually need this, does this deliver something new and useful" thought put into it. It's a skill most people lack, they can't judge it.

Bootstrapping a solo software business has multiple core required skills. Technical skills are now largely unnecessary, but it turns out most people lack multiple of the other required skills too.

deaux··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
I'm running several. They're not "large hits" but they're providing value to thousands of people. They couldn't exist pre-AI because core functionality depends on LLMs.

What you're missing is that slop has increased 20x but quality new releases have also increased 5x. Unless there's something in your niche though you'll mostly see the 80% slop so I get why you feel that way

deaux··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
If you believe the explosion of high quality 1-3 people indie games on Steam has nothing to do with AI I don't know what to tell you. The amount of slop has increased 20x but the amount of good quality ones has also increased 4x. And it's not that hard to distinguish them.
deaux··on MiMo v2.6
On the least saturated i.e. most meaningful benchmarks, Mimo is ahead. That helps.

Until about one week ago, i.e. a few days after Astra release, the other comment was right; OpenAI plans gave a lot more usage than Anthropic. That had been true since pretty much the start. Now for the first time that's changed. OpenAI quotas have cratered, probably due to Astra-induced demand. Claude plans now offer more usage. Of course, this could flip back again in a few weeks, who knows. But right now Anthropic gives more usage, by virtue of OpenAI having slashed usage, and Anthropic having raised it a little, also likely because of additional capacity from people moving to Codex - hence also finally this AGENTS.md change.

Anthropic's plans have always been pretty dynamic based on the demand they're seeing, whereas OpenAI's demand-induced changes are more abrupt and sharp (both upwards and now downwards too). You can tell that suddenly you get a bit more Fable usage, and especially higher tok/s, than pre-Astra. I wouldn't be surprised if Anthropic tweaks it almost daily, potentially automated. As a paying user I don't think either is better than the other really, just different. They both suck as you can get wildly different usage for the same $. If I'd bought a load of $200 subs for employees right after Astra launch I'd be pissed that now I'm getting 3x less usage than when I bought them. Because this extends to Sol too.

Two reasons combining at the same time: GPT Astra, and the Shopify CEO tweet.

19 out of 20 harnesses supporting the standard isn't "too early".

Tariq is wrong and it's not an antipattern. Reason being that a good AGENTS.md impacts all models in a positive manner. If it affects certain models negatively, it means you're putting the wrong things in it.

The 20x plan offers the same amount of monthly usage per dollar as the $100 plan. It offers 2x monthly usage of the $100 plan. It's incredibly deceptively named, the "20x" is only about the 5-hour window.

They try to make it feel that way, but you can. Just keep pressing escape/cancel, then it shows an errorish screen but from there it lets you continue without one
deaux··on Claude Code now reads AGENTS.md if there is no Claude.md
It took the Shopify CEO tweet and Astra causing a large move towards Codex for them to finally give in. It's hard to believe it was worth it in the end. On the other hand, most people will forget about this saga in a few months, so sadly it may just have been worth it.
deaux··on I don't like passkeys
Passkeys suck because only the wealthiest 5% of the world is all-in on one ecosystem (such as Apple) while the remaining 95% uses a Windows laptop, an Android phone and (for the top 5-35%ish) maybe an iPad. All of these OSes push hard to get you to store your passkeys with THEM so it ends up a shitshow with everything scattered everywhere.

And why do the OSes push for this so hard? Because the goal of the execs is lock-in and control. And their lackeys here on HN who implement this stuff and their families are the 1% who are all-in on one ecosystem so they arrogantly believe "this all works great and the masses are just too stupid to get it".
