dearroy··on Show HN: I built a reminder app designed to feel uncomfortable on purpose
One thing I didn’t expect: some users told me the app makes them anxious, others say it’s the first time they actually finish tasks. That polarization itself has been interesting to observe.
dearroy··on A 20-year-old small company
I know one of their company's products, it's https://zsxq.com/. But it came out in 2015, and I've never tried any of their other stuff.
dearroy··on Which open-source projects are widely used but maintained by just a few people?
Not very typical "widely used" project but recently surpassed 100k+ installs with two people working on it part-time.

dearroy··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (August 2024)
Slowly growing HeyForm into the complete open-source form solution, with AI integration coming soon.
dearroy··on Product Hunt Upvotes Are Worthless: Real Customers Aren't There
It really depends on your expectation of the Product Hunt launch.

If your aim is to secure the #1 rank and attract thousands of users to discover your product-market fit, Product Hunt might not be the best platform for you.

However, if you're looking to find beta users for your MVP, Product Hunt can still be effective, but don't rely on it exclusively—use it as one of several channels.

As a daily active user on Product Hunt, I have seen some products rapidly gaining traction by ranking high, but not all top-ranked products will survive or succeed.

In a word, don't overestimate or underestimate it.

dearroy··on [dead]
We've seen so many directory sites initially offered free services but eventually switched to paid models. Many of these sites vanished within a few months.

I hope you'll keep building and growing it to the best one that lasts long.

dearroy··on Self-hosting forms, the sane way
I understand your concern, but what about an open-source form builder that gives you control over what’s on your site?

dearroy··on Show HN: I just made my profitable online form builder open-sourced
It's strange that our website is being blocked by an ISP.

Could you please provide us with the name of the ISP so that we can contact them and request to have the ban lifted?

dearroy··on Show HN: I just made my profitable online form builder open-sourced
We do, but this is not the main reason.
dearroy··on Show HN: I just made my profitable online form builder open-sourced
Both of us work part-time on HeyForm and are satisfied with the revenue it generates.

However, who wouldn't want to earn more? :D

dearroy··on Show HN: I just made my profitable online form builder open-sourced
You request it, we make it!

Please open an issue and let's discuss it further. With any luck, we can make it available in just a few weeks.

dearroy··on Show HN: I just made my profitable online form builder open-sourced
Thank you for sharing your experience and insights. It would be fantastic if we could collaborate to make HeyForm better suited to your needs, as well as the needs of many others.

> Would an integration with Nextcloud be considered?

We are definitely interested in exploring this possibility. However, since I am not personally familiar with Nextcloud, it would be helpful if you could provide more details. Could you please open an issue so that we can discuss it further?

dearroy··on Show HN: I just made my profitable online form builder open-sourced
It's to tap into global collaboration for faster innovation, and ensure transparency and trust.

Thanks for bringing up the good question!

dearroy··on Show HN: Nekoweb – a retro static web hosting
Love the UI! It reminds me of my childhood while I was learning how to make a website using Microsoft Frontpage.
dearroy··on I Need AI
Yes, I need AI, despite its current limitations and weaknesses.

And whether you realize it or not, you also stand to benefit from it.

dearroy··on Ask HN: Got a /22, cool things to do with it?
Which RIR?

Either lease them or start a web hosting business.

dearroy··on Ask HN: Which co-location providers would you recommend in the US?
Do you have any location preferences? What are your requirements for power, network, and remote hands support?
dearroy··on Ask HN: How to survive indefinite DDoS attack?
Given the frequent mentions of Cloudflare in this post, I'd like to offer an alternative suggestion.

Consider migrating your website to web hosting providers renowned for their DDoS protection, such as OVH or Path. By doing so, you can ensure that your server performance remains unaffected even during ongoing attacks.

dearroy··on Ask HN: To what extent have digital payments replaced cash in your country?
China. I have a few cash in my wallet but haven't spent any for years.

Everything is now done through digital payments either Wechat Pay or Alipay, and all shops in the country accept them.

dearroy··on Coolify – Self-Hosting with Superpowers
Oh nice, didn't realize that. Thanks for pointing it out!
dearroy··on Coolify – Self-Hosting with Superpowers
I've been using Coolify for 6 months now!

It's surprising that it hasn't been featured on HN yet.

dearroy··on Ask HN: Side projects making less than $2k MRR, what's your project?
https://earlybird.im

Helping startup people in early stage to validate ideas before investing too much time and money in product development, just crossed $500MRR after launching it 3.5 months.

dearroy··on Ask HN: What made your startup fail?
In March 2020, I had an idea to build an email client to help the Chinese use the best email services in the world (Gmail, live.com, Yandex, etc.). I didn't take the time to validate my idea before diving into product development. I registered a domain, hired someone to design the logo, and hired an outsourcing company to develop the software and the website. I spent thousands of dollars and three months on it, only to find that there was no real demand for it. People preferred to use a VPN instead of trusting an unknown email client, so it was a total waste of time and money.

These failure experiences led me to build EarlyBird (https://earlybird.im) - a no-code SaaS for startups to turn ideas into customers, I want to help people avoid making the same mistakes when starting up.

dearroy··on Ask HN: Would AI for Pets Work?
I haven't seen any product for that, it would be very interesting to see one.
dearroy··on Show HN: EarlyBird – build your landing page for idea validation
Thank you! Do share your feedback after a whir, good or bad it will be appreciated!
dearroy··on A testimonial that makes me feel the hard work is worth it
It's been 2 months since we launched TinySnap, and today I got a testimonial as in the image, I am so excited about it.

https://twitter.com/LuoBaishun/status/1589255691734503427

He says: Thanks for creating TinySnap for free. As, a student, it is impossible for me to pay right now but after I get a job, I will donate heftily to you via crypto. I will pray to God for you until then.

Do you get any uplifting testimonials in the journey of indie hacking?

dearroy··on Ask HN: What brand of laptop do you use?
Still using an old Macbook Pro (late 2017s), randomly using it since I am more active on PC, and I always take it while traveling.
dearroy··on Show HN: Our first month of building and maintaining TinySnap
Thanks for posting the update on HN, mighil!
