dearilos··on Show HN: HomeCat – Design your backyard office
Heya I'd love to help! Could you shoot me a note to my email in my bio? I didn't see a way to reach out from your profile.
dearilos··on Show HN: HomeCat – Design your backyard office
Yes - we only charge for the building plans. So it's $50, but you get to revise as many times as you want. Others have found this really useful for zoning/HOA/permit approval so far.

Everything else like designing, materials lists, code compliance - we intend to keep free.

We actually do want to do more complex interior, and let you add furniture from any catalog. Can I email you on your profile about this?

I think you might be talking about how the camera uses orthographic rendering? This article explains it well https://manual.keyshot.com/keyshot11/manual/cameras/lens-set...
dearilos··on Show HN: HomeCat – Design your backyard office
Can you link your scene? It's possible there is an edge case.
dearilos··on Show HN: HomeCat – Design your backyard office
I can add this in too. Sorry, it might take a bit of time!
dearilos··on Show HN: HomeCat – Design your backyard office
What province/state/territory in NZ? I can add it in. We just research the code compliance stuff manually so we couldn't cover the entire world but I can add your case in.

We just got the hug of death. Fixing it - sorry about that! You can clone this scene and start designing from it for now https://myhomecat.com/scene/classic-cottage-137134ef

Edit: back up and working now!

Just noticed this - fixing now!
dearilos··on Small Models Have Arrived
You can plan and design your projects without spending weeks/months on research and understanding how construction and code compliance works. It'll also help you save time/money from having to make extra runs to the hardware store or if you end up making the wrong cut/connection if you DIY the first time.

You can say what you want, and the tool has appropriate guardrails to make sure what you're going to build is safe.

Something that helps homeowners build anything on their property, for example https://myhomecat.com

dearilos··on Building a backyard office, the build and cost breakdown
Have you started designing? If you're open to it - I could help you jump start this and give you a few designs for free based on what you're thinking about.
dearilos··on Building a backyard office, the build and cost breakdown
Heya I'd love to help you bring it to life and DIY it. I'm working on https://myhomecat.com/ - which lets you design a code-compliant version and you can fiddle around with budget, needs, etc. I've helped other folks with step by step guides after they've created a design they're happy with.

Can I ask you how you're designing it right now? I could whip up some designs for you for free.

dearilos··on Building a backyard office, the build and cost breakdown
Building a home office in your backyard is really hard. It's a good idea (though expensive) to go with a pre-built if you don't wanna figure all the details out. If you DIY the design and build, you have to figure out:

- What type of floor? (2x4? 2x6? will it hold me and my chair without collapsing?)

- What roof type? How big should the overhang be? What's easier to build yourself vs looks nicer but a real pain to build?

- How many windows should be in my office?

- How do I build something within my budget?

- What size of shed should I go with for my purpose? (workshop? office?)

I'm working on https://myhomecat.com - which lets you do all of this. If you enter your address and the kind of shed you want (i.e. 10x12 office), you should be able to get something fully code-compliant that figures out all of your details. It's still early so it doesn't cover every edge case, but the idea is there and it works really well from the feedback I've gotten.

dearilos··on Ask HN: How to deal with long vibe-coded PRs?
Put up guardrails to enforce quality code.
dearilos··on We need a clearer framework for AI-assisted contributions to open source
We’re fixing this slop problem - engineers write rules that are enforced on PRs. Fixes the problem pretty well so far.
dearilos··on Claude Memory
We’re trying to solve a similar problem, but using linters instead over at wispbit.com
dearilos··on Claude Skills
We're trying to solve a similar problem at wispbit - this is an interesting way to do it!
dearilos··on Show HN: Wispbit - Linter for AI coding agents
We use ast-grep for the determinism part. I should have clarified - we don’t charge for fully deterministic runs. Only ones where the LLM is involved as a judge.
dearilos··on Show HN: Wispbit - Linter for AI coding agents
It supports fully deterministic rules, which we use LLMs to help you write.

Agreed on all of this too. This is why we built the CLI tool - to shift left the work.

dearilos··on Show HN: Wispbit - Linter for AI coding agents
We combine determinism + LLMs to catch things a human would normally have to. If the LLM finds a violation, it generates a comment.

Big agree on the CLI being open and letting you bring your own inference provider. We’re holding off on it until we get more feedback from some of our hardcore users.

We do a two week trial and then it's $0.2 per file reviewed. Buying in bulk + optimizing rules gives a significant discount.
dearilos··on Show HN: Wispbit - Linter for AI coding agents
Love it :) Thank you!
dearilos··on Why the push for Agentic when models can barely follow a simple instruction?
This is pretty much what I’m solving. LLMs need a “linter” of sorts that can guide them to write good code.
dearilos··on If you are good at code review, you will be good at using AI agents
I'm building something to solve exactly that - automating all the boring and repetitive parts of code review.
dearilos··on If you are good at code review, you will be good at using AI agents
I'm building something to do exactly that - just reduce and automate the boring parts of code review like enforcing standards.
dearilos··on AI coding agents are removing programming language barriers
problem with the tools you're using is that they're not built for code review

im building one that lets you write and enforce your own rules so you don't get the typical slop

email in profile if you'd like to try it - i can send you a link

dearilos··on Building better AI tools
i'm taking an approach where we scan your codebase and keep rules up to date

you can enforce these rules in code review after CC finishes writing code

email ilya (at) wispbit.com and ill send you a link to set this up
