dear··on “Whistleblower welcome in China”
I agree that they are not doing Snowden any favors by writing this piece. It makes him look more suspicious. They should just shut up and watch the show.
dear··on “Whistleblower welcome in China”
See the downvotes you are getting!
dear··on “Whistleblower welcome in China”
So what's wrong with this article?
dear··on The Meteoric Rise of DigitalOcean
I am a happy user of Digital Ocean. Thumbs up! Wish you all the best!
dear··on NSA revelations only 'the tip of the iceberg,' says Dem lawmaker
Snowden and reporters have been saying there will be more leaks over the next few weeks to months.
dear··on Ask HN: Disruptive crypto tools: Develop with true names, or "go Satoshi"?
What about an encrypted form of your true name?
dear··on Ask HN: My Dog is About to Die... How Can I Preserve Her DNA??
It will not be the same dog even if it has the same DNA. It may not even have the same physical appearance. What you miss is this particular individual. There is no way you can recreate this individual. Either get a dog from the same lineage, or adopt an unfortunate one from a shelter.
dear··on Why Zuckerberg’s Lobby Is Collapsing Outside Of DC
This is so true! If someone of no status made a joke, most people would likely said he's stupid. But if the same joke was made by Warren Buffet, the whole world would be 'amazed' by his wit.
dear··on Ask HN: If you want to send a programmer over the edge...
Why do you want to do that?
dear··on Challenge to PG/YC
That's no challenge at all!

How about this instead: Get a bunch of investors to pitch to an audience of founders who would then evaluate, select/reject which investors they would take. Now that is true founders power!

I call that inverse-YC.

dear··on How to permanently bootstrap your startup
3 days without a single comment. No one in HN seems to be interested in permanently bootstrapping their startups. They all want to land a big time VC investment as a validation of their business! ;)
dear··on Ask HN: Should the People who create software be called Engineers?
What about those 'Financial Engineers' in Wall Street? Are they qualified to be called engineers?

Creating software is as much an engineering activity as any other traditional engineering disciplines. So yes, Software engineer is an appropriate title.

On the other hand, plenty of licensed PE's have never worked in an engineering environment, but they got licensed anyway, simply because they got an engineering degree and worked in a so called related field (such as business, LOL!!). I've seen too many of those. I would not take the PE title seriously.

dear··on Startup with no direction seeking for guidance
It's less than a month old. Do you expect overnight success?
dear··on Ask HN: Review my startup
The site design is a little boring. I know it's an MVP. Making it prettier and more intuitive may help signups because it's a consumer oriented app. Also the More Information button does not work.
dear··on Ask HN: What books are you currently reading?
"Lean Analytics"

I have never been able to finish a non-technical/non-fictional book after childhood to be honest! ;) I prefer a movie for that.

dear··on Is there a blogging threshold for your startup?
One trick from some major media sites (such as CNN). They keep changing the title of the same article to make it look like it's a new one a few times a day.

You may learn what style of title may give the highest click rate, given the same article.

dear··on Very odd message on bing.com
I get:

Ref A: 7e8212dd6f4348a39347e3ee7e617441 Ref B: 373C177A10DC187C4867FCED8213A733 Ref C: Wed Apr 24 21:43:41 2013 PST

It gives me a different string every time I refresh.

dear··on Approaching the CEO question
How much are you doing more than the other guy? Can you have a co-CEO?
dear··on Ask HN: Would you use AWS for a primary infrastructure if you're a bank?
Maybe start a bitcoin bank? No regulation. A bitcoin loan shark.
dear··on Tell HN: YC rejection emails have started going out
It seems YC's scalability issue is their pain point. If anyone of you can apply with a startup to solve this pain point, you will be THE startup to rule them all!
dear··on Why Startups Should Choose Canada Over Silicon Valley
So the moral of the story is: if you are a first timer, do it in SV. Once you make enough connections from SV, do it in Canada.
dear··on Ask HN: Micro Startups?
Is that another name for lifestyle business?
dear··on The end of men? Expert predicts males will be extinct in five million years...
Which contradicts this article:

"Y chromosome losing all genes, but men won't become extinct"

dear··on Ask HN: Are you still employable after being a founder?
Isn't it the point? Unless the prospective employer is very open minded, an entrepreneur could be viewed as unwilling to work under a boss, and likely not a long term employee.
dear··on Yahoo! Mail Partners With Dropbox To Add File Attachments
So true! People should stop treating their own little circle as representative of the world.
dear··on Canadian Government Makes Call to Foreign Startups for New Startup Visa
Could it a sign that a startup bubble is forming?
dear··on Ask HN: should I reboot my career at the age 30?
Go for it! Start a bio startup!
dear··on Ask HN: Do Zuckerberg, Page, Musk, etc, etc post here in HN?
Promise us. Even if you become famous and rich one day, you would still keep posting loyally here, not just about your own product tho.
dear··on Ask HN: Do Zuckerberg, Page, Musk, etc, etc post here in HN?
His last submission was nearly 3 year old. His comments and submissions were mostly about his product. His post history has shown that he's substantially cut down his activities on HN. This case shows a negative correlation between success and activities on HN.
dear··on Ask HN: Do Zuckerberg, Page, Musk, etc, etc post here in HN?
Yes he is. But he is the owner of this board.
