deadA1ias··on Apple’s app review prevents developer from submitting fix to game for the blind
Actually, I think it would be rather straightforward. I'm a bit embarrassed for HN that they're still using tables and spacer gifs and see it as an intentional pushback on "caving" to modern web techniques. Despite CSS being 20 years old at this point.
deadA1ias··on The Fierce Legal Battle at the Heart of the Fight over Reclining Airline Seats
Just because something is legally available to you does not mean it is the right thing to do. A good example of this is one's right not to wear a mask; or ride your unmuffled motorcycle around the neighborhood at 2am. The list goes on...
deadA1ias··on The argument for switching off lights at night
Presumably there is perceived safety, both from crime and when operating a vehicle. Whether the data confirms this or not is unknown (to me).
deadA1ias··on America forgot how to make proper pie. Can we remember before it’s too late?
Wait. Americans invented pie?
deadA1ias··on Experts Weigh in on Pentagon UFO Report
I think Occam's razor leads me to the same conclusion. The only part that still has me questioning are the large number of reported visual sightings by the very same pilots reporting radar contact.
deadA1ias··on Medium sees employee exits after CEO publishes ‘culture memo’
Thank you! I now know what this phenomenon is called. I went through "diversity training" when I worked at a university, and was appalled at the presentation. The Kafkatrap was _exactly_ the trick used throughout the entire "Q&A". It was so insidious, bit I didn't have a name for it -- now I do.
deadA1ias··on Does NMN improve metabolic health in humans?
Take a look at Modafinil. Not a traditional stimulant. I've been taking it routinely at the start of the workday for focus with great success. No "come down".
deadA1ias··on Apple Watch Likely to Gain BP, Blood Glucose, and Blood Alcohol Monitoring
I hold/held the opinion. I've asked several of my doctor friends what they think of a future like this. They are all resoundingly pessimistic, due to the false positives they think would result and a general sense that it would result in unnecessary interventions.

It made some sense to me, but ultimately considered it would work out for the greater good.

deadA1ias··on Amazon CloudFront Announces CloudFront Functions
I wonder how this is different from Lambda@Edge.
deadA1ias··on Thoughts on Using Deno
It's good, but still has some work to do. Still no support for JSDOM (or equivalent).
deadA1ias··on Genetically Modified Mosquitoes Breeding in Brazil, Despite Biotech Assurances
This is straight out of Jurassic Park: "Life will find a way".
deadA1ias··on Auth0 Has been down for almost 4 hours now
To extend the OP's line of thinking does it really matter. Exams can be rescheduled, extenuating circumstances taken into account. As someone that has fallen ill quite suddenly through examination periods due to chronic illness I never appreciated the dogmatic approach taken when administering tests. I'm a human being, things happen, systems go down...
deadA1ias··on Pentagon Confirms 'Pyramid-Shaped' UFO Video Footage Is Authentic
How is this not just a triangular bokeh?
deadA1ias··on Move Slow and Make Things
Disappointed this was an April fool's. I think I might use this slogan anyway.
deadA1ias··on Aurora woman charged $5,700 for cup of coffee at Gaylord Rockies
I paid $2,000 for a haircut once. It was meant to be $10 but the hairdresser didn't know how the machine worked (it was new) and entered the '00' for the cents. Two transactions in a row.

Five minutes later my credit card had reversed the charges.

I still had to pay $10 for the haircut.

deadA1ias··on Fear of white space
Because they're greatly prioritizing function over form.
deadA1ias··on Economists Are Obsessed with Job Creation – How About Less Work? (2017)
This effect is particular prevalent in the US. As someone who moved here from the UK it was quite a cultural shock to realise that being "idle" was, for some reason, considered "bad".
deadA1ias··on Economists Are Obsessed with Job Creation – How About Less Work? (2017)
This is exactly right, and I wish I could have put it as succinctly as you. I fear it will take longer than expected for society to adapt to this dynamic.
deadA1ias··on Making SetInterval Declarative with React Hooks
Dan Abramov claims that React hooks haven't jumped the shark. All I'm seeing in this article is exactly that.
deadA1ias··on Self-driving car on Moscow streets after snowfall [video]
In much of Europe, and I would assume Russia as well, that's a pretty typical scenario. I suspect the car is set up to handle the situation much like a native driver.
deadA1ias··on Falcon Heavy core booster lost at sea
For anyone who has not yet read of the books from The Culture series, I highly encourage you to do so. They are an amazing - agnostic - version of what our far future selves could be. Iain M. Banks had quite the mind (no pun intended).
deadA1ias··on Introducing Custom Elements
I completely agree, but the question remains what experience do we provide when JavaScript is not available? (Progressive enhancement isn't just for "people who turn off JavaScript", it's an defensive approach to providing inclusive, universal solutions on the web. Something I feel is lacking in the modern, front-end developer's worldview.)
deadA1ias··on Introducing Custom Elements
How do we employ progressive enhancement using custom elements? Given their reliance on JavaScript, as an old-school front-end developer, this feels like an unfortunate oversight.
deadA1ias··on Frameworks Round 3
Why is ASP.NET never included in these type of benchmarks?
