ddfs123··on Millions may rely on groundwater contaminated with PFAS for drinking water
That's great and all but as a content creator, she has an incentive to create sensational, viral content. Which also introduce bias like exaggeration of the risk. Being financial independent does not exclude this type of bias.
ddfs123··on Math is still catching up to the genius of Ramanujan
>Also, I would group kids by subject, and not by age.

I would be cautious with this, they may have the same academic ability but a large gap in social skills.

ddfs123··on Life expectancy rise in rich countries slows down: took 30 years to prove
Even for non-emergency, the short amount of time before a health issue turn serious means that it's already hard for you to take second opinion.
ddfs123··on Eye Contact Correction: Redirecting the eyes to look at the camera
I think it's just that naturally nobody is keeping 100% eye contact ( except maybe like TV news reporter ), it feels like an interrogation.
ddfs123··on Kudzu, the vine that never ate the South (2015)
My recent most favourite quote is "Anything is edible at least once".
ddfs123··on Why TCP needs 3 handshakes
I've consider it to be 4 handshakes but the middle 2 are merged.
ddfs123··on Firefox tracks you with “privacy preserving” feature
I got some message like "XML error" and just denied out of meeting lots of time.
ddfs123··on Firefox tracks you with “privacy preserving” feature
Slack's huddle just straight up block Firefox for me ( 130.0.1, Fedora ).
ddfs123··on Do AI companies work?
>I wouldn't be able to simply look at some text and give you an accurate word count.

I actually think you would, lots of time I've been surprised by how accurate people can eye-ball stuffs.

ddfs123··on Firefox tracks you with “privacy preserving” feature
Google Meet, Slack Web, for example, are notirious for being Firefox-hostile. Though I manage fine with User-Agent
ddfs123··on Averaging is a convenient fiction of neuroscience
> In reality the modal life expectancy of adults (most common age of death other than 0) has been pretty stable in the 70s-80s range for most of human history-

I am pretty sure this is wrong. East Asian cultures celebrate 60th birthday as becoming very elderly, and if you live to the 70s it's almost as if you achieved Buddhahood.

ddfs123··on In 1870, Lord Rayleigh used oil and water to calculate the size of molecules
That was my Physics too, but Chemistry just completely glanced over the history. Same thing with Mathematics, no backstory of mathematicians. I guess that either 1. Physics History is short enough, well-recorded, or 2. Physicists really like teaching their history.
ddfs123··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
Yup, and I think the only guarantee for a remote-first workplace is if the whole company ( or at least the whole engineering dept. ) is spread out enough that there is no possible plan for an in-office setup.

Seems like most these types are building niche products (e.g.: tailscale) and not just SaaS or CRUD-with-AI ?

ddfs123··on Is My Blue Your Blue?
I think it's relative on how long you stare at the blue pallet. The longer I stare the longer the burn-in and more flush time is required.
ddfs123··on Kids who use ChatGPT as a study assistant do worse on tests
League of Legends.

Just knowing that your combo can finish an opponent can switches your situation from very passive to very aggressive. Also some jungle / gank timing require clock math.

I think most serious / pro players memorize the numbers already. But casual players like me still have do head math.

ddfs123··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
Yup, having 1-2 days to care for your home is just that good.
ddfs123··on Kids who use ChatGPT as a study assistant do worse on tests
>we all know now how wrong that was.

How wrong was it ? I find myself having to do head math every time I playing video games.

ddfs123··on Show HN: Icebreaking AI. A free tool to help you find close friends
I am sorry but the AI reads like a job interview. Obviously because that's the kind of content you get on the internet.
ddfs123··on Greppability is an underrated code metric
Unless you have syntax-aware grep support, I don't see how searching nested key json could be better. But grep is the default installed. Not to mention ad-hoc languages that does not have any IDE support.
ddfs123··on Is My Blue Your Blue?
I like that the test refresh your eyes with a random noise. But I think it should be a bit longer. My eyes still have a bit residue from previous color.
ddfs123··on Japan’s Temple-Builder Kongō Gumi, Has Survived Nearly 1,500 Years
This doesn't really say anything about religions. Constructions company can build a lot of thing. Temples are just happen to be good business at that time.
ddfs123··on Open source laser microphone picks up laptop keystrokes
oh haha my bad, not that I can use ESL as an excuse anymore since I effectively use it more than my native.
ddfs123··on Open source laser microphone picks up laptop keystrokes
Weighted curtains don't really help with sound dampening that much unless it's somewhat air tight. I shopped around a bit for window sound dampening products, them need to form seal around the window hole.
ddfs123··on IT workers gather in large numbers to protest 14-hour workday proposal
I assume that's the limit for overtime hours, e.g. if you works 12 hours a day, 12-8 = 4 hours of that is counted towards 125 hours limit over 3 months.
ddfs123··on Tokyo's oldest train line – in pictures
It's a Ship of Theseus thing since JR continuously upgrade their stations / stock. I would argue that Tokyo Metro show it's age more. Despite the dirtiness of London's Tube, I think it shows a bit more character in this aspect.
ddfs123··on Tokyo's oldest train line – in pictures
The best music is often discovered while a train, or a night bus at 2AM, with a sub-par quality headphone ;)
ddfs123··on More disabled Americans are employed, thanks to remote work
Well even if you limit it to tech, it's still a good argument to push forward remote work in tech sector first, at least ?
ddfs123··on Why not just embed Neovim?
I would just cw and space it back to correct alignment. I too edit ascii table by hand, and quite often and just find R not very useful in even this case.
ddfs123··on Why not just embed Neovim?
Isn't `R` only useful if your new string is exactly as long as the old string ? I always reach for cw.
ddfs123··on When do we stop finding new music?
Back in those period it's still very distinct / segregated black vs white culture.
