dcsan··on Show HN: OpenWhisper – free, local, and private voice-to-text macOS app
how does it compare to wispr flow?

which beats the pants off android or iphone transcription...

dcsan··on Yansu – The Serious Coding Plaftorm
I tried this and i like the 'spec driven' approach. its a bit like amazon's kiro, but who wants to give more data to amazon?
dcsan··on Counter-Strike's player economy is in a freefall
RIP financial regulation. CFPB was hit early on but the dump coins were launched even before that
dcsan··on Show HN: Firm, a text-based work management system
Very cool like a text based crm. Like how obsidian keeps all your docs in local .MD files. Perfect for building agent automations without delving into lots of integrations. This does make it harder to collaborate though

Reminds me also a bit of

https://github.com/MrLesk/Backlog.md

dcsan··on Bots are getting good at mimicking engagement
I've seen people but cpc campaigns and only place ads that don't convert. So they get the benefit of the branding instead. I guess more modern auction algorithms factor this in
dcsan··on Bots are getting good at mimicking engagement
Half my advertising budget is wasted, I just don't know which half... In many corporate cases vague metrics meets the KPI better than accurate ones

I worked for one of the mag7 doing customer support bot tech. Clients internal metrics around containment consistently showed better results than ours - even though you'd normally expect them to be putting pressure on their vendor. because it was a kpi for their internal team to look good to their bosses

dcsan··on Launch HN: Slashy (YC S25) – AI that connects to apps and does tasks
nice launch!

Do you worry that AI browser agents (comet etc) will eat this market of light integrations? Since the user is already logged in to various services like linkedin/email etc it's easy for tasks to be scripted together - or fully prompted.

also what did you use to make the video? looks better than most looms.

dcsan··on Launch HN: VibeFlow (YC S25) – Web app generator with visual, editable workflows
I do like convex but do you support any other data stores?
dcsan··on Show HN: I built an app to block Shorts and Reels
Were you using their embedded player or some other method to play the raw streams?

The embed links back to YT which is a major part of why they provide it for off-platform playback.

But if they somehow singled you out for overuse of the embed that seems rather arbitrary

dcsan··on Show HN: Sidequest.js – Background jobs for Node.js using your database
does this work with cloudflare workers? I'm assuming if its using worker threads it might be some node specific API?

or at least the putting jobs into a queue side running within cloudflare?

dcsan··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (August 2025)
amazing posting, would be great if you had an extended network so people could collab with you, not just work there!
dcsan··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (July 2025)
https://podskim.com is for turning podcasts into knowledge graphs and making them visually skimmable. Keep adding features but need to shift to some user research and see how people are using it
dcsan··on eslint-config-prettier npm package compromised
why isn't this bigger news?

it looks like installing a dll so maybe it's windows only?

https://github.com/prettier/eslint-config-prettier/issues/33...

dcsan··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025)
https://Podskim.com is a way to skim through podcasts like a TikTok sans the brain rot. It also has some fact checking and topic monitoring behind the scenes. Haven't figured out a business model for it yet but has been fun to keep poking it
dcsan··on Ask HN: How to regain the ability to read with focus and learn
Maybe we could do this with just a voice recorder? writing stuff with a pencil seems unnecessarily laborious - unless the physical part is the point. you still get the mental exercise by trying to understand synopsize, and present the information
dcsan··on Show HN: Report idling vehicles in NYC (and get a cut of the fines) with AI
And the cost is often on the small business owner
dcsan··on How to negotiate your salary package
You had me until HFT...
dcsan··on Andrej Karpathy: Software in the era of AI [video]
LLMs have already replaced some code directly for me eg NLP stuff. Previously I might write a bunch of code to do clustering now I just ask the LLM to group things. Obviously this is a very basic feature native to LLMs but there will be more first class LLM callable functions over time.
dcsan··on Meta invests $14.3B in Scale AI to kick-start superintelligence lab
So metaphorically speaking RN is an eye up over everything else?
dcsan··on Meta invests $14.3B in Scale AI to kick-start superintelligence lab
850 people doing data labelling?
dcsan··on Ask HN: Anyone making a living from a paid API?
I used this neck in the day! You somehow did better Lora training than others in the space! Found you via discord
dcsan··on Show HN: templUI – The UI Kit for templ (CLI-based, like shadcn/UI)
What is it
dcsan··on Show HN: Every problem and solution in Beyond Cracking the Coding Interview
This sounds like an amazing resource. What’s the rationale for making it all free?
dcsan··on I'm starting a social club to solve the male loneliness epidemic
they had to move off mission around the corner to a backstreet, so there are less mission vagrant rogues trying to sneak in now, and still the hardcore of interesting people.

when i first moved back to the city from overseas, noisebridge was an awesome third place to hang out and hack on stuff while meeting regulars.

dcsan··on Japan Post launches 'digital address' system
Interesting. More like a dns than physical address?
dcsan··on Lottie is an open format for animated vector graphics
GIF animations will autoplay where video embeds often will not esp on mobile. For a looping low color vector animation it might not be too bad.
dcsan··on Show HN: SuperUtilsPlus – A Modern Alternative to Lodash
your option is a bit more verbose but definitely more clear. confusing the underlying definitions of the language itself will lead to problems later.
dcsan··on Claude Code SDK
They’re great if word count is your measure. But it’s hard for LLMs to know the whole current SOTA and come up with something innovative and insightful. The same as 99% of human proposals. Can LLMs come up with the 1% ideas that breakthrough? Paired with great execution
dcsan··on Claude Code SDK
Yes this is known etiquette eg in China where voice memos are widely used on WeChat. Sending a voice memo is slightly rude for business as it says I the sender value my time to dash something off more even if it’s inconvenient for you the receiver who has to then stop and listen to it. Between friends is a bit different as voice has a level of personal warmth.
dcsan··on AniSora: Open-source anime video generation model
So if a machine was to do the translation, should that also be considered a creative work?

If not, that would put pressure on production companies to use machines so they don’t have to pay future royalties
