dcomp··on WireGuard on OpenBSD
> roaming IPs

This. I've installed it on Android just because I get a better experience with WiFi switching on when I have a poor signal. And having my SSH connection not break is nice.

dcomp··on Scientists discover the chemicals behind the unique Parkinson’s smell
It would be interesting to see whether this smell is caused by the same thing that results in Parkinson's or just associated with it.
dcomp··on Tesla has a self-driving strategy other companies abandoned years ago
I've now seen the word heteroscedasticity twice in 5 minutes and thank you for providing the link to Wikipedia. Although I think the 'meta-variety' synonym was quite apt on the other page.
dcomp··on Kubernetes Failure Stories
I run a single node cluster at home. In order to handle updates. I just wipe the cluster with kubeadm reset. Then kubeadm init; followed by running a simple bash script. which loops of files in nested subdirectories applying yaml configs. Only have to make sure I only ever edit the yaml files and not mess with kubectl edit etc.

for f in /.yaml ...

dcomp··on Firefox removes RSS support
As long as it still renders the RSS feed in a reasonable manner and doesn't default to just an XML dump.

I guess it's not too bad.

Edit: actually it looks like they're removing the reader as well. Guess I'll have to find a extension. Shouldn't be too hard

dcomp··on X86 assembly doesn’t have to be scary
What would be more interesting is the UEFI boot process. I don't think any new computer comes booting into 16bit real mode anymore. I would love to see a "Write your own UEFI bootable kernel" I'm sure going straight to a semi sane 32bit environment is much easier to deal with than starting at 16 and working your way up.
dcomp··on Google’s new Chat service shows contempt for Android users’ privacy
I think RCS is being framed incorrectly. It isn't a competitor to WhatsApp/telegram/iMessage it's an update to SMS

If they bought out another competitor all that would happen would be one more chat client that 20% of your contacts use if that.

With RCS, in order to supplant SMS it requires co-operations with telco. It's there to see increase base line support.

Maybe telco would have been okay with e2e encryption although I highly doubt it. Once the baseline RCS standard is put in place. It maybe possible to implement e2e with an OTR client side extension.

RCS is the successor to or replacement of SMS/MMS. I for one will be happy when I no longer have to ask: "how do you want me to send that to you? Email WhatsApp or telegram?"

dcomp··on Android 8.1 Oreo
I suspect this has some runtime tradeoffs. Probably apps are optimized for space and not performance.

Which is probably better for a non tech user. Nothing worse than, I can't take more pictures where is all my space gone.

dcomp··on A pile of matchboxes that can learn [video]
As mentioned in the video I managed to get MENACE to resign on the first turn After just under 40 Games of beating it in a row.
dcomp··on High Sierra's Disk Utility does not recognize unformatted disks
Is there a way to create iOS applications without XCode and MacOS? I've been looking for a way to compile apps on Linux.
dcomp··on Breaking the x86 Instruction Set: how to find undocumented x86 instructions
Can't wait to see what 2017's f00f bug equivalent is after its released. Maybe I should just run his tunneling programs and not wait for the disclosure.
dcomp··on Android Oreo
> VTS certified

If it passed VTS it should be able to run AOSP. The new CTS will be an AOSP System image running their VTS passing "drivers".

Even if your vendor doesn't push any updates. At least you should be able to run a number of newer versions of AOSP as long as Android doesn't deprecate those VTS drivers.

The most interesting part is the way they are planning on tackling fragmentation in O onwards with Project Treble [0]

If your device ships with O it should be running an immutable semantically versioned HAL. In essence you should be able to be able to flash AOSP on every new device. No matter what the vendor does.

Edit: I can see it now, in the technical specs of each device you will see a list of HAL Versions. The newer your HAL the longer you can expect support from AOSP if not your vendor.
