dbacar··on React is winning by default and slowing innovation
back in 2015s we had to choose from react, angular and emberjs and we chose the worst one , emberjs. My primary rule now is if lots of people are using after the hype, it should be sth. I also tried vue and react seemed much more understandable for a backend guy like me.
dbacar··on QGIS is a free, open-source, cross platform geographical information system
When you mention QGIS, you should also mention GDAL, JTS, udig, geoserver, open stree maps, open scene graph, FWtools etc. Open source GIS has awesome list of projects and people, QGIS being only one of them. It really fascinates me.
dbacar··on Jiratui – A Textual UI for interacting with Atlassian Jira from your shell
Looks cool and unnecessary :)
dbacar··on I solved a distributed queue problem after 15 years
I guess if you use different topics(queues) in Kafka you can do all this by the help of a processor like Storm, Spark etc, routing messages to different topics hence a workflow.
dbacar··on Polars Cloud and Distributed Polars now available
SnowFlake, Polars, DucksDB, FireBase, FireDuck... I guess the next product will be IceDuck.

What is wrong with you DB people :))).

dbacar··on Altered states of consciousness induced by breathwork accompanied by music
"Altered states of consciousness" -> why dont you just say "getting high" :).
dbacar··on Why was Apache Kafka created?
The biggest strength of Kafka in my opinion is consumer groups.I have been using it since 2016 in at least 3 projects and it never failed, not that big workloads though (~100 messages/sec max). However it is a bit difficult to monitor and manage using only the out of the box applications.
dbacar··on A renovation project in Turkey led to the discovery of a lost city (2023)
All Cappadocia area is like a visit to another planet. Ihlara valley, Zelve open air museum, Uchisar castle, hot air balloons, cave systems. Very strange place.
dbacar··on Derivatives, Gradients, Jacobians and Hessians
I respect the time you spent to write such a post with all those limited input alternatives (bowes).
dbacar··on Multimodal WFH setup: flight SIM, EE lab, and music studio in 60sqft/5.5M²
site down because of us :D
dbacar··on I tried every todo app and ended up with a .txt file
why not use just a pen and a notebook then :) ?
dbacar··on TU Delft Open publishing resources
An open access publication site from TU Delft. Some interesting titles for me:

dbacar··on Twenty Eighth International Obfuscated C Code Contest
I didnt know that, thanks.
dbacar··on Twenty Eighth International Obfuscated C Code Contest
This is epic: :)

This code draws the current moon phase to the console. So if you’re a lycanthrope, you can monitor the phase of the moon.

how do you know they are nerds?
dbacar··on GCP Outage
kaggle not responding correctly, is it related?
dbacar··on Air Lab – A portable and open air quality measuring device
You sound like you are asking for a friend :).
dbacar··on Human coders are still better than LLMs
They are not investing billions on it so a high schooler can do his term paper on it, is is already much more than a generalist. It might be like a very good sidekick for now, but that is not the plan.
dbacar··on Human coders are still better than LLMs
Not everyone builds Redis at home/work. So you do the math. And now Antirez himself is feeding the beast by himself.
dbacar··on Human coders are still better than LLMs
I disagree—'human coders' is a broad and overly general term. Sure, Antirez might believe he's better than AI when it comes to coding Redis internals , but across the broader programming landscape—spanning hundreds of languages, paradigms, and techniques—I'm confident AI has the upper hand.
dbacar··on Why Good Ideas Die Quietly and Bad Ideas Go Viral
It might be a good idea from a tiger's perpective. So subjective.
dbacar··on Show HN: hcker.news – an ergonomic, timeline-based Hacker News front page
i find your design easier on my eyes and the content much more accessible. Congratulations.
dbacar··on The Windows Subsystem for Linux is now open source
Mac IS the Sotate of the Art at the developer experience. The only annoyance was the virtualisation on Arm but having UTM/Multipass/Virttualbox now, it is the best. If you are up to too many containers, a linux box would be more preferable.
dbacar··on The Windows Subsystem for Linux is now open source
I have to use Windows as my main box after nearly 6 years of MacOS (and before that Mint) and WSL2 helps me keep my sanity.
dbacar··on Lessons from Mixing Rust and Java: Fast, Safe, and Practical
WHich part of the Java app was slow for you? And did you check on FFI (foreign function interface) ?
dbacar··on AniSora: Open-source anime video generation model
Do you think all that all the big guys just asked people while training their models?
dbacar··on Human
This is a classic (an in my opinion boring) view of what we humans are in general. The idea is visited at least on a couple of books and movies.
dbacar··on Launch HN: ParaQuery (YC X25) – GPU Accelerated Spark/SQL
Cool project, congratulations.

How would you contrast it against HeavyDB?

https://github.com/heavyai/heavydb

dbacar··on OpenSearch 3.0 Released
I think both these tools are more on the easy side of setting up if you follow their guidelines. You can be up and running very quickly. The problems arise when you need some custom logic in processing log files. If you have simple shipping requiremts you can bypass logstash altogether . Elastic and opensearch are not the right tool for application metrics though in my opinion, for that use case just use prometheus and grafana.
dbacar··on Evolving OpenAI's Structure
