dawkins··on Pan Am Games: Link to our website without permission and we'll sue
That was funny. They have updated the terms now:

Other sites may link to the Site with or without our authorization, and we may block any links to or from the Site.
dawkins··on Why i’m done wearing a helmet
It shows the benefits of wearing it. The guy in the video walks away totally unharmed. This kind of blow to the head can happen easily while riding a bike, specially in a city.
dawkins··on Why i’m done wearing a helmet
Everybody thinking like the author should watch this video first.
dawkins··on Why Go is doomed to succeed
yes, it's from the article
dawkins··on Why Go is doomed to succeed
"Go won’t let you abstract yourself in the foot." :)
dawkins··on Mono 4.0.0 Release Notes
The apt install with their packages worked well in Ubuntu so no more build from source for me. I always had trouble with dependencies.

dawkins··on 2015 Chromebook Pixel
Does it allow an external monitor with 4k 60hz?
dawkins··on Scrawl – A modern, cross-platform C#, VB.NET and JavaScript IDE
No debugger? As an editor it looks very nice.
dawkins··on Oil Crisis Explained in 3 Minutes
but when oil price goes up, even very little, gas price follows inmediately and proportionally. At least that is the impression I get here in Spain.
dawkins··on Gorename: easy refactoring tool for Golang
in liteIde press ctrl+shift+r to rename. ctrl+shift+u to find where is used. I don't think it uses gorename though.
dawkins··on The Roots of Midlife Crisis
I have. It surprised me a lot. Maybe it is because we tend to remember the good parts.
dawkins··on Half a decade with Go
Thank you for mentioning it. With the last version of liteIde (refactoring, jump-to, usages, info about a anything...) the only thing that I missed was a debugger. I Hope that the project gains traction.
dawkins··on Show HN: Iron, a fast middleware-oriented Rust web server framework
"Iron averages 2500-3000+ requests per second for hello world"

For a hello world in my laptop I can get typically 30k requests with Go, and with mono/httpListener ~10k.

I expected it to be much faster.

dawkins··on Hackers raid eBay in historic breach, access 145 million records
From the comments:

"This really won’t affect anything. Most people these days are use to being hacked, spied on and violated."

dawkins··on China bans use of Windows 8 on government computers
8 hours ago I read this and the reasons where because Windows 8 was expensive in China, now they are talking more about security: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/china/2014-05/20/c_1333472...
dawkins··on John McAfee releases secure anti-surveillance messaging app ‘Chadder’
It doesn't ask you for any information. What would be the benefit of enabling SSL?
dawkins··on Microsoft’s new open source direction for C# and .NET
“When it comes to development projects we are going to operate from the premise that open source is the default. Unless there are reasons why it does not work,” said C# lead architect Anders Hejlsberg.
dawkins··on Tourism, Construction and an Ongoing Nuclear Crisis at Chernobyl
Extrange, I can read it directly.
dawkins··on Mono and Roslyn
I'm sorry to hear that. I have been successfully running a web app on ubuntu/mono for four years now and I'm really happy about the stability and performance. It doesn't use any of the asp.net stack though.
dawkins··on MariaDB 10
If you use replication with MySQL 5.6 and and GTID (Global Transaction ID) I heard some issues about not being fully compatible but I don't remember what it was exactly.
dawkins··on Sources: Microsoft In Talks To Acquire Mobile App Development Startup Xamarin
Not again! Fortunately when Attachmate acquired Novell it didn't stop mono/linux. Xamarin was completely focused on mobile apps but for the core of mono and monodevelop it has been great times.

But what will happen now? Will Microsoft silently kill cross platform, especially linux? What interest do they have not to do it?

Having invested heavily in a linux/mono/web stack this worries me a lot.

dawkins··on How not to write an API
I meant for a native app and you being the provider. If you don't trust the client app even oAuth won't help you preventing the client app to know the user password.
dawkins··on How not to write an API
Even if your api uses oAuth I don't see how can you prevent the client app to steal the password. At some point the user is going to have to give his password to someone. Can't the app ask the user for his password, keep it, and internally give it to oAuth to allow to use your api?
dawkins··on US Media Blacks Out Snowden Interview
Not available in my country (Spain)
dawkins··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2013)

We are looking for a full stack (C# or Go) web developer.

dawkins··on My dad unexpectedly uses my Linux laptop to get real work done
My father is 81 and very happy with linux mint that I installed for him a few years ago. He only uses chromium.

Recently he bought a new laptop and the first thing he asked me was to install Linux.

dawkins··on Why Putting SSH On Another Port is a Good Idea
I run ssh in a non standar port and its annoying to always specify the port. Thank you for the tip about ~/.ssh/config
dawkins··on Joblint: test tech jobs for sexism, culture, expectations, and recruiter fails
I would move "frontpage" to its own warning category, not just "notice".
dawkins··on My startup is Microsoft-based, here's why
I switched from windows/.net/SqlServer to linux/mono/MySQL two years ago and in a single server I handle among many many other things 10k-20k reservations/day.

The server is a small dedicated machine with 8 cores and 16GB ram but never goes beyond 30-40% cpu and 2GB ram. This in Hetzner for about 60€/month.

So I don't understand what the author finds so amazing about the numbers he posted.

dawkins··on Official statement from WikiLeaks regarding Edward Snowden's exit from Hong Kong
His job ended because he knew he didn't have jurisdiction to start this trials but he proceeded anyway and because he asked for money to a banker who was judging at the time (the infamous "dear Emilio" letter)
