davidchua··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
Been working on getting my webpage refreshed to try and restart my DevOps/Infra/Fractional consulting business: https://cubiclerebels.com.

Also spent a good part of last month working on a little idea I have that is built on-top of XMPP.

I've also been wanting to pickup Gleam, hopefully this would be that week I finally fight through my ADHD to do so.

davidchua··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (March 2026)
Spent the last year expanding my homelab and now I have my own rack at my local DC with my own ASN and /23 prefix.

Its been pretty fun cosplaying as an network engineer, and now I'm building out an Anycast network for a few ideas that I'm working on.

Its nothing too revolutionary or new, but I'm proud that I've built them from ground up and all running on my own infrastructure.

- DNS Authoritative Hosting - https://thelittlehost.com/dns/ - Quietnet - A family-focused internet filter - https://quietnet.app

I'm also getting ready to launch https://relaye.io, which was my personal tool I built to support my devops consultancy.

davidchua··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2025)
I'm currently working on two passions of mine. Both of them a one-man project.

The first is a DNS blocker called Quietnet - https://quietnet.app. Its born out of my interest in infrastructure and I wanted to build an opininated DNS blocker that helps mom and pops be safer on the Internet. At the end of the day its just the typical Pi-hole on the Cloud but with my personal interest in providing stronger privacy for our users while keeping their families safe.

The second, is a small newsletter aggregator tool called Newsletters.love - https://newsletters.love/.

I wanted to create a way for people to start curating their own list of newsletters and then sharing them with their friends and families. The service helps to generate a private email adddress that they can use to subscribe to newsletters and then start reading those newsletters whenever they want without it getting lost in their email inbox.

Thanks for the feedback!

So sorry that you're experiencing slowness. I haven't done any performance test on it as for the past few months its mostly been used by just friends and family.

I hope it is faster now.

Tbh, I'm not sure what else to build on top of it as when I built it, I just wanted a safe and private place to be able to curate newsletters without exposing my main email address and allow friends to view my subscriptions.

What do you think feels needs to be touched up? Is it the UI?

davidchua··on Show HN: I made an open source Mailchimp RSS-to-Email alternative
I've built a similar app before I found out about this.

https://newsletters.love

If anyone wants to give it a try, please give me your feedback!

davidchua··on Ask HN: Alternatives to the email masking service Firefox Relay?
Not sure if this is what you might be looking for but I've built a service for this purpose would love to hear your comments if you do give it a try!

davidchua··on Ask HN: What software/tech blogs/magazines should I be reading in 2024?
I second bluesnews. It reminds me of a bygone era when news aggregators like bluesnews were all curated by a person/small team and while the content is not exhaustive, it is actually enough.
davidchua··on Immune discovery 'may treat all cancer'
This sounds very promising and also sounds like this case just a couple of days ago where a young boy was removed of cancer cells. I'm not sure if it's the same kind of treatment.

davidchua··on Ask HN: How do you organize and store your notes?
I'm starting to use Gitbook and Gitbook-Editor for my personal notes. Love the Editor's UI and the fact that I can keep it in my private repository is also pretty nifty.

I'm curious to hear what's everyone's workflow

davidchua··on Humble Book Bundle: Unix
Thanks! you just made my life so much easier.
davidchua··on PyPy 5.1 released
Pardon my ignorance but what exactly makes PyPy different from standard CPython?
davidchua··on VNC Roulette
Its Chinese.
davidchua··on Show HN: Kaiwa, a Modern Open-Source XMPP Web Client
Is there any chance we will see webhooks in a future release? (ie. slack integration)
davidchua··on Crowdsourcing the Search for Malaysia Flight 370
Its not working for me. I think tomnod is unable to handle the load after getting worldwide media attention.

davidchua··on Show HN: Sesame, the wireless Mac lock
Aside from the other comments that the functionality could already be replicated with a mobile phone, it would be cool if the device could have some kind of screen effect as though the machine is powered off. (ie. the power pendants in the TV series Revolution)
davidchua··on [dead]
I think it is him:

They are out of bail.

davidchua··on No more new episodes on Railscasts?

davidchua··on Show HN: JFDIN - Just Fucking Do It Now
But how would it return this JSON to you? Through a callback URL specified?
davidchua··on Show HN: JFDIN - Just Fucking Do It Now
What happens after you send it to your coworkers? Would you want to track whether your coworker gives up?
davidchua··on Show HN: JFDIN - Just Fucking Do It Now
What kind of return data would interest you?
davidchua··on Show HN: JFDIN - Just Fucking Do It Now
This sounds like a great idea!

How do you think we should allow users to input their e-mail addresses w/o cluttering too much of the page?

(p/s: I'm one of the developers working on this)

davidchua··on Save money on wifi using user agent switching
Isn't this fraud and an open admission of guilty?
davidchua··on Ask HN: What would you do with the domain www.pipasucks.com?
Maybe start a blog about your rage for the Chinese instrument http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pipa
davidchua··on Ask HN: What is the best developer conference talk you saw in 2011?
I like Mike Lee's talk 'Product Engineering' at SL2011 http://www.infoq.com/presentations/Product-Engineering as well as DHH's Railsconf 2011 Keynote speech on Asset Pipeline.

Learnt quite a bit from these two talks.

davidchua··on Ask HN: Need feedback on landing page and idea
Thanks. This is really embarrassing. I shouldn't be making this kind of mistakes.

Thank you for spotting them.

davidchua··on Ask HN: Is it wise to leave out your phone number on your namecard?
Yup.
davidchua··on Will hackers from Singapore please stand up?
I'm here :)

I used to have my own startup, but I'm now working as a cubicle rat, although hoping to return back to paradise soon.

I usually hang around the hackerspacesg discussion board although I haven't been dropping by hackerspacesg lately.

I'm available for kopi/teh anytime. Just hola.

davidchua··on Changes to my life as a result of just four weeks of daily meditation
The whole point about meditation is about self-reflection. Yes, you may argue that comparing meditation with volunteering, the former would seem like a complete waste of time with no benefit to society, but its only because you're looking at it in one-dimension.

If the OP is able to turn his life around, become calmer, more understanding and more compassionate, his actions and interactions in the physical world would have an impact to all those around him and create a multiplier effect that is much more effective in the long run than just pure volunteering.
