davecardwell··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (June 2024)
Canopy Connect | Backend Engineer - Carrier Integrations Team | Full-time | REMOTE (US & Canada) | $100k–$150k+ | https://www.usecanopy.com/

We’re building “Plaid for insurance”—a single-click solution for insurance data sharing.

We serve over 4,000 companies (and growing rapidly!) including insurance agencies, lenders, insurtechs, fintechs, and insurance carriers to streamline acquiring verified insurance data from consumers and businesses.

We're hiring engineers for our Carrier Integrations team. We're a small, fully remote team based in the US and Canada. We present the best of both worlds - a nimble startup and small team (low strike price on equity and more ownership/impact), yet derisked because of our capital efficiency.

By “product engineers” I was referring to the full-stack role on the product team. I’ll update my post.

davecardwell··on Show HN: ORM for TypeScript with no query-builder, supporting full SQL queries
I agree. I’ve been using pgtyped for a recent project, along with https://github.com/graphile/migrate for migrations, and it has been great to just write SQL and not have to battle with an ORM’s abstractions.

davecardwell··on Reversing Safeway's private APIs to automate coupon collection
I had written a similar program for US supermarket Publix, however I used it as an exercise to learn puppeteer[0] rather than using their private API directly.

Reading this inspired me to finally release it here: https://github.com/davecardwell/publix-coupon-clipper

davecardwell··on Show HN: Paint yourself in the style of classic art, in your browser
Same with Chrome/63.0.3223.8 on Intel Mac OS X 10_11_6

It’s the call to dialogPolyfill.registerDialog(dialog);

davecardwell··on Data::Tersify – generate terse equivalents of complex data structures
The Data::Tersify documentation mentions that it only summarizes if the object is “not the root structure passed to tersify (so if you actually to want to dump a complex DBIx::Class object, for instance, you still can)”.

So instead of…

  Dumper(tersify($dt))
You would want to try…

  Dumper(tersify({ now => $dt }))

davecardwell··on Where did all the HTTP referrers go? (2013)
It looks like there was a change on 19th August, 2014: https://github.com/w3c/webappsec/commit/b48b635f93a798da87c6...

However, clicking the link to “Latest Version” at the top of the document you linked (from Dec 2015) takes you to the document I posted (from Aug 2014) so…who knows? It will require some testing to see what the browsers have actually implemented I guess.

davecardwell··on Where did all the HTTP referrers go? (2013)
I don’t know, sorry, although I would suspect they stick to “default”.
davecardwell··on Where did all the HTTP referrers go? (2013)
Note: Authors are encouraged to avoid the legacy keywords never, default, and always. The keywords none, none-when-downgrade, and unsafe-url respectively are preferred.

- https://www.w3.org/TR/referrer-policy/#referrer-policy-deliv...

Although the current versions of Edge only support the legacy keywords according to http://caniuse.com/#feat=referrer-policy

Thanks!

davecardwell··on Ask HN: Anyone here with a faulty 2011 macbook pro GPU?
My 2011 MacBook Pro broke in September of this year. I took it to the Apple store and they replaced the logic board (this would have cost ~$600 but I have AppleCare).

Last week the issue arose again, so back to the Apple store. They replaced the logic board again, and chalked it up to bad luck when I enquired why this would have happened again so soon.

They wouldn’t acknowledge it as a known issue.

davecardwell··on I'm Betting on Elon
Not the grandparent, but it does it in Google Chrome v26.0.1410.10 dev on Mac OS X Lion v10.8.2

I have third-party cookies blocked.

davecardwell··on From jQuery to JavaScript and back again
element.querySelector and .querySelectorAll [1] provide this functionality. Sizzle [2], the selector engine at the core of jQuery, uses it where available and works around some browser inconsistencies.

davecardwell··on Hugepic - a web app for showing massive pictures
Perhaps use history.replaceState() instead of history.pushState() so it doesn’t create a new distinct entry each time, but you still get a URL you can bookmark or share with others?

davecardwell··on $.url() - A simple, lightweight url parser for jQuery
jQuery simply does this:

  isNumeric: function( obj ) {
    return !isNaN( parseFloat(obj) ) && isFinite( obj );
  }
davecardwell··on The feature supported in IE6, but not Chrome
Yes. You can explicitly turn off this behaviour by sending a “X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff” header for IE8+.

davecardwell··on Karmurl - Give Feedback on Websites to Get Feedback
Some of the feedback I’ve received has been excellent, and I plan on sharing it with my team members. The ability to download all the feedback for a submission as a .txt or .pdf file would be very helpful.

http://karmurl.com/give?s=9okt8061otbq7o56 if you’d like to leave feedback for http://www.localphone.com/

davecardwell··on Karmurl - Give Feedback on Websites to Get Feedback
It’s a good idea, and a couple of bits of feedback I’ve received have been useful.

It would be good to be able to modify my submission after it’s been added.

I’d also like the opportunity to respond to others’ feedback—could be an option when leaving feedback.
