So it's a bubble?
dave8172··on Is AI improving quality of life?
Every profile I open on X is building on AI. Has some company with 'ai' on it.

Is this the biggest free market experiment? On average (over time and geographies) is this leading to better quality of life?

There are various factors which can define success, but overall it should be quality of life, which itself includes wealth, health, peace, etc.

If I can ask everyone a simple question:

"Has AI improved your quality of life?"

50-50 -> we are still figuring it out, too early to be sure Yes -> technology with laisez faire is a win, humanity as a whole can be trusted to do good for itself No -> We cannot be trusted with unregulated tech

Maybe this is the biggest experiment after electricity which I think was in the Yes bucket.

Ask this to yourself, to people around you to understand where are we heading.

dave8172··on Musk and Altman back Anthropic CEO on slowing AI down
timing and speed of all this is definitely suspicious
dave8172··on 'We must slow the pace': CEO of Anthropic calls for an AI slowdown
agreed, seems like a coordinated attack to fence AI to a chosen few. Dangerous precedent.
dave8172··on Anthropic CEO calls for the AI industry to slow down
Interesting. But even Elon agrees now. Is it really a commercial intent or something deeper? Only non-speculative answer can come from someone inside these labs with nothing to gain or lose.

Closes person I can think of is Andrej (he agreed too).

dave8172··on 'We must slow the pace': CEO of Anthropic calls for an AI slowdown
Agreed by Sam and Elon. What happened suddenly for all of them to be on the same page?
dave8172··on Anthropic CEO calls for the AI industry to slow down
so does Sam. Does this mean there is seriousness to all this 'AI maybe dangerous for humanity' claim?
dave8172··on Grok outage
Interesting all major frontier models seemed down. What could this means?

How do you find 'your' OS community? I am new to the OS world, and reading GitHub projects gets overwhelming. Where and how do I even start?

Reading your post about the fun of building something together without the goal of only money, seems like the human connection we need in this world. But how do you find community you would enjoy?
