$1000 per week is actually quite good, remember this guy was unemployed and was getting occasional construction jobs so he didn't have any money and insurance in the first place. The experience he is gaining running a successful business also has a lot of value. I know a similar guy who started dealing in used items, after working for 25 years he is one of the biggest antique and scrap metal dealer in town.
Most people don't understand technology, but they do understand freedom. The strategy to get a pro technology representative elected is to get a small government person elected in such region, who believes federal government has very little role in every day life of a citizen.
Have you used their vps service? If you have please comment on its reliability, seems very competitively priced. According to wikipedia 100% of Iceland electricity is produced from renewable sources. I am tempted to move most of my servers to Iceland.
Once you have experienced the open internet, the restricted internet is quite suffocating. Whats more disappointing is that governments in most places around the world are converging towards the Chinese style of access controls and restrictions.
About 3 years ago I had to deal with a counterfeit item bought on ebay. In such cases an experienced seller usually offer full refund no questions asked, this is the best policy and saves time and the item, though the seller loses shipping charges they paid when the item was initially shipped and the buyer has to pay the return shipping, sometimes to make the buyer happy, seller even offer to pay return shipping. These small loses are usually considered as "cost of doing business on internet".
Paypal use to require the buyer to prove that the "assumed" fake item is actually fake. In my case Paypal asked me to obtain a certificate either from the original brand or some authorized dealer. If I would have gone that route I had to pay for appraisal fees and spend time shipping/taking item to the authorized dealer. I guess this was Paypal's measure against every other buyer crying fake when they start feeling buyers remorse.
I hope Paypal has not changed their policy of asking for the counterfeit certificate, making it too easy for buyers to claim fake items.
However if a project was useful for military it would have gotten the funding from military budget. I don't think Ron Paul wants to dismantle the military.
Can you please cite some of his false assumptions and the illogical conclusions. I believe his argument against SOPA and regulation/censorship of internet is quite sound. His arguments for a sound fiscal policy is based on evidence that governments (or individuals or corporations) spending beyond their means usually lead to their downfall. Results of Vietnam war, Iraq war provide alot evidence that much more diplomacy is needed before going to war, and once you go to war, fight it win it and get out, don't go into nation building.
How was that a great writeup when it discounts him in the first paragraph, using adjectives like wacky, radical, no-hoper and quirky? I was expecting it to be an objective look at Ron Paul's policies by Economist.
I fired up an application written in play framework with -Xms64m -Xmx100m and hit it with ab -n 500 -c 20 http://localhost:9000/ the RES column in top remained under 86m. The application does alot more than "hello world", I can speed it up and decrease memory consumption by substituting groovy based templates with java based templates using a module called japid. If you want to use JVM for hobbyist apps start using frameworks which are not based on j2ee.
Why was this downvoted? This is a clear shortcoming I noticed on ios 4 before I switched to Android. Safari doesn't reflow text on double tap and you have to scroll right and left to read an article. From a usability perspective if I double tap on text I want to do some reading and it should be reflowed. The reader button in ios 5 rectifies the issue but it is still not as natural as reflow text on double tap.
Can't agree with you more about Nokia picking up Windows Mobile. They should have gone with Android customized it to their liking (just like what Amazon did with kindle fire), taken advantage of already existing apps and ramp up from there just like what Samsung is doing right now. A big transition to a nascent mobile platform slows them down further, they seem to be heading towards the same fate as Palm.
These "precautionary" measures and profiling databases are being developed in most parts of the world. Governments are becoming more and more intrusive in personal lives in the name of security. I really wish someone would buy some land or islands and create a modern country based on libertarian principles, it will be an interesting experiment/startup, although I am not sure if you can start a country just by buying land.
WebOS is slow on TouchPad due to large amount of logging done in the background. There are patches available for WebOS which decrease / disable logging making the whole user experience quite snappy. The main culprit for slow performance are the logs not the hardware.
I agree with you on coffee shops, they are too distracting. I found my refuge at the local library, it is 5 minutes drive from home, the environment is very respectable, no distractions, openvpn and ssl works perfectly.
Is it possible to use mouse with android? This can be very useful for high resolution precise input. Thanks for a very informative post I am going to get a Nook Color now.
HTC has bought S3 graphics, which has successfully gone after Apple at ITC. ITC has found Apple infringing on two S3 graphics patents (final verdict in November). Now, HTC has been found infringing on two Apple patents (final verdict in December), will it force the two companies into cross licensing.
What I don't understand is why Google was interested in LTE patents? LTE patents are hardware patents and any phone manufacturer will use a chip from a vendor who has licensed these technologies. Google should buy Synaptics, Elan Microelectornics etc. which have patents in touch. $4bn can buy lots of patents, Google has to be smart and selective in building their patent war chest to defend Android.
The idea behind this initiative is that every Congressman stays in his own district 75% of the time, they use video conferencing to have meetings with other congressmen, vote on bills online. This will allow them to spend more time with their own constituents, and away from Washington lobbyists.
I think he is cornered right now and this move is going to buy him some time. He cannot fire Rebekah Brooks right now, for it will seems like the whole thing was approved by the top management.
I am a recent convert from iphone 3g to nexus one, and I am pleasantly surprised. One feature I like the most is the back button which makes Android feels like the web, you get in and out of apps just like you get in and out of websites. Android may not have the eye candy of iOS and tons of very well developed apps but it sure is very convenient.
Does Airbnb have yearly revenue of a billion dollar? According to the article 1.6 million nights have been booked through them, if they are a "billion dollar" business than average booking revenue will be $625.
The chart at google finance displays the price was $83 on 9:30 when the volume was 0. I can understand the price rising due to higher demand but not the discrepancy in google finance chart when the volume was 0.
If there is financial incentive to keep the growth of the bubble going isn't it in the interest of first movers to influence the markets by feeding media with "get rich quick" stories.
