dashzebra··on U.S. Built a Blueprint to Avoid Civilian War Casualties. DOJ Scrapped It
> The death toll from the attack on an elementary school in Minab climbed past 165, most of them under age 12, with nearly 100 others wounded, according to Iranian health officials.

Aside from the obvious horrifyng aspect of this, that's also a lot of people who are going to remember this sorely. Pretty sure none of this is going to be beneficial to the future of anyone involved, on both sides.

C'mon, only 2 years and 9.5 months to go...

dashzebra··on Where things stand with the Department of War
Is the term "warfighter" new? I had never hears it until recently. Sounds like "soldier" would be the usual terminology.
dashzebra··on Show HN: Rust compiler in PHP emitting x86-64 executables
Yeah, right? Are we just... talking with bots?
dashzebra··on Show HN: Rust compiler in PHP emitting x86-64 executables
Prove me wrong :)

The amount of code committed per day suggest some kind of automation.

Also, a passionate programmer usually will add a "why this exists" in his readme.

I'd be very surprised if this wasn't AI.

dashzebra··on Motorola GrapheneOS devices will be bootloader unlockable/relockable
I much prefer maximizing screen to body ratio, even if some sacrifices have to be made: rounded corners and punchhole cam.

I'm also pretty sure rounded corners are stronger on impact.

dashzebra··on The Falkirk Wheel
Ahahah "Brexitspoons". Never heard it before but it's brilliant!
dashzebra··on Claude’s C Compiler vs. GCC
Well let's check again in two years then.
dashzebra··on Claude’s C Compiler vs. GCC
The same two years as in "full self driving available in 2 years"?

Right.

dashzebra··on Fairphone 6: cheaper, repairable and longer-lasting
I've been using this phone for a few weeks now, switching from a galaxy s21.

Perfectly happy. I hope I can keep using it for a long time. Don't expect flagship performance, but it's fine for daily use.

Ah maybe just one thing: lots of accidental screenshots due to the placement of the volume buttons.

dashzebra··on Devuan – Debian Without Systemd
Honest question here: why do people hate systemd so much?
dashzebra··on PauseOS: Distraction-Free Phone OS
I need my phone mostly for external emergencies reason.

1. Something is wrong at work and needs my attention (life of an ops guy) 2. Something is wrong with one of the living beings close to my heart.

So I end up having a phone with me at all times. I did manage to get rid of mainstream social media apps on it, but I do end up on hackernews a lot.

dashzebra··on Max Payne – two decades later – Graphics Critique (2021)
Oooh that level... I was young when I played that game, and did not see that one coming. I also fell by the side. Memory is a bit blurry thankfully, but I erred for a while trying to climb up. I think it was a bug. Caused a few nightmares...
dashzebra··on You are not required to close your <p>, <li>, <img>, or <br> tags in HTML
You can also indent with spaces and tabs at the same time, who's judging?
dashzebra··on Bose has released API docs and opened the API for its EoL SoundTouch speakers
Well done Bose! This puts you higher on the list for my next purchase.

I don't understand why so many comments here are negative. This is a nice move, and Bose should be thanked and encouraged to do similar moves again. It's a step in the right direction!

dashzebra··on FediMeteo: A €4 FreeBSD VPS Became a Global Weather Service
Ooh just what I needed, thanks!
