dartharva··on Has AI already killed self-help nonfiction books?
Suing is a lucrative business in America, so much so that there are entire businesses dedicated to it. It doesn't have to actually protect anything.
dartharva··on Has AI already killed self-help nonfiction books?
Tim Ferris? Bro humanity has invented religion that served exactly this purpose long since before it even invented the wheel.
dartharva··on Has AI already killed self-help nonfiction books?
Pretty sure that's a result of the larger gestalt driven more by your own drive and savviness to seek new ideas on living than the books themselves, as it is for everyone who claims to have benefited. If the books are gone today and only LLMs remain, nothing will change in this front.
dartharva··on India, UAE partner on AI sovereignty to bypass Google, Microsoft
This is just a bid to secure the infra, what they are going to do with it is anyone's guess.

But I reckon boosting state surveillance would be first on their list of priorities before they spend time on difficult things like healthcare and agriculture.

A full dedicated cluster only for government use?
dartharva··on Hetzner Price Adjustment
What do you mean by "decade of drought"? In most accounts the 2000s were the absolute best years for rapidly emerging and fun tech.
dartharva··on How to earn a billion dollars
"Drug traffickers" is a great term to use here, because arguably many of the startup stalwarts that went on to make billions are those that did so by selling addictive convenience (Amazon, AI-anything, etc.) or brainrot (all social media), all of which function as harmful drugs that emasculate people.
dartharva··on How to earn a billion dollars
And this would solve the problem how? Bill Gates owns less than 1% of his company, but now Microsoft under Private Equity is several times more evil, not less.
dartharva··on How to earn a billion dollars
Education.
dartharva··on Codex for open source
On a side note, am I the only one who feels Codex models have a higher general first-pass success rate than Claude models on coding what you want? I use Github Copilot and always find myself drifting more towards them when working.
dartharva··on Open source AI must win
Indeed, for work and software most are already beholden to Microsoft and Google. This is something wayy more.
dartharva··on Ask HN: Why is there some sort of a scam website being advertised on HN?
Was about to ask the same
dartharva··on MiMo Code is now released and open-source
Could just be a courtesy - Americans tend to be rather suspicious and hostile to contributions coming from China, and it might draw unwarranted attention from agencies and bad media.
dartharva··on CEOs who think AI replaces their employees are just bad CEOs
I reckon such AIs are already in place, but by proxy. There must be CEOs somewhere who have completely offloaded what meagre amount of thinking they needed to do to some bespoke AI setup while they LARP around convincing people they are the one running things.
dartharva··on CEOs who think AI replaces their employees are just bad CEOs
Generally, yes. Also the gap between the employee and executive class is a lot smaller instead of unnaturally inflated like it is in most private equity companies.
dartharva··on CEOs who think AI replaces their employees are just bad CEOs
Coops can definitely succeed and even dominate at large scales with some minimum government protections. The largest dairy producer in the world is a coop: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amul
dartharva··on CEOs who think AI replaces their employees are just bad CEOs
I wonder if business schools could ever start actually teaching this skill. So far they just largely operate as scams, held up purely by prestige and network value
dartharva··on Introduction – Rust for Python Programmers
Jeez, what a hostile crowd. I personally am just glad companies like Microsoft, that infamously used to charge for every material they put out, have been providing free learning resources to newcomers like this, quality notwithstanding.

I am just extremely grateful in general for anyone who takes the effort to put something out there for public education for free. If you are one of those, irrespective of how your content is appreciated, please take my heartfelt thanks. You guys are at the forefront of restoring my faith in humanity.

dartharva··on Ask HN: Why is the HN crowd so anti-AI?
wth are you talking about

Isn't the mere fact that every HN frontpage is filled with AI-related articles not indicative enough of how much it holds interest here?

> post about how AI “writes bad code,” “introduces bugs,” “creates technical debt,” or something along those lines.

Many people here are engineers and are interested in solving problems. First step to solving problems is to identify them.

dartharva··on Why China got rich and India didn't
India never had that choice, because forced order in the magnitude of China is practically impossible for the country for a vast variety of reasons too many to list down. Suffice to say there can be no comparison between PRC's federal admin that holds absolute power over every inch of its territory, and India's that barely survives each year.

For India, the choice was either an endless cycle of balkanization, bloodshed and anarchy à la Sub-Saharan Africa with a mild possibility of some of the states eventually thriving economically, or an inherited weak but held-together nation-state with a bit more negotiating power in the world stage.

dartharva··on Why China got rich and India didn't
There is no singular decisive answer. Sure, you can chalk all of it up to "wrong" policy, but peel the layers a bit and explore the causes behind them and you'll see an endless chain of cause-and-effect covering more factors than all schools of academia can feasibly cover.
dartharva··on Can the stockmarket swallow Anthropic, SpaceX and OpenAI?
Even if they are, it still doesn't justify the ridiculous levels of overvaluation. They are not essentials and their consumer demand is extremely elastic.
dartharva··on Japan Lost 3M People in Five Years
Had this assertion been true India wouldn't have been the most populous country on earth.
dartharva··on Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM
Please.. undergrad college in any stream is a very achievable baseline that literally anyone not afflicted with a pathological mental condition can pass, provided they are interested themselves and are subjected to classes from instructors who are serious about their jobs. All you need is some basic level of discipline and direction. College is not some kind of academic olympics.
dartharva··on Tech CEOs are apparently suffering from AI psychosis
More than the CEOs themselves, I feel news media are more suffering from "AI psychosis" than anyone else with the constant stream of FUD articles they keep churning out.
dartharva··on Tech CEOs are apparently suffering from AI psychosis
Just asserts "Tech CEOs" in general, I don't see any names being named. Meaningless FUD article
dartharva··on DuckDuckGo search saw 28% more visits after Google said people love AI mode
This↑ - I had also jumped ship to DDG until I realized this query string still works on Google.
dartharva··on I'm the CEO of Goldman Sachs. The AI Job Apocalypse Is Overblown
This article is a whole lot of nothing, feels like just an excuse to feature Goldman CEO on the publication for prestige value.
dartharva··on Search engines alternatives now that Google isn't Google anymore
Surprising that nobody's talking about the non-AI Google - https://tedium.co/2024/05/17/google-web-search-make-default/
dartharva··on Didgeridoo playing as alternative treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea (2006)
The captcha on this site is irritating.
