dartharva··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
Severe limits on additional filters, which is bad for people who want it to add more annoyances than it does by default.
dartharva··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
Most office IT actively blocks it.

3. For a significant period of time (that continues to this day) websites were made using only Chrome as the target platform, turning Firefox into an eternal second fiddle that would occasionally break important/work websites.
dartharva··on How to disable or avoid intrusive AI
Zoom might just be the only app in which AI actually has added value for me. For almost everything else, universally, it is an unwanted bloat at best.
dartharva··on India has paved the way for charging merchants a fee on UPI transactions
It fits perfectly literally everywhere on earth, the main challenge is in claiming that the masses can tolerate not being "intoxicated". For all we know religion is an inevitable characteristic of the human species.
dartharva··on India has paved the way for charging merchants a fee on UPI transactions
Do rich farmers really have enough strength in numbers to outvote other populations in India?
dartharva··on A Preview of DuckDB v2.0
Basic regression and interpolation for starters; perhaps some classification and outlier detection too. Disclaimer: I self-studied applied DuckDB for my job, I don't know if these already exist.
dartharva··on A Preview of DuckDB v2.0
Will check them out, thanks!
dartharva··on A Preview of DuckDB v2.0
Sorry, I meant duckdb-cli, not duckdb in Python.
dartharva··on A Preview of DuckDB v2.0
Would be really cool if they were to add statistical functions too. I'd jump at the chance of getting to use this over pandas
dartharva··on uBlock Origin is giving up the fight to keep ads off Facebook
cheap bait
dartharva··on uBlock Origin is giving up the fight to keep ads off Facebook
Like whenever/wherever there's a sale going on about something you were out to buy anyway, helping you save money.
dartharva··on uBlock Origin is giving up the fight to keep ads off Facebook
>Traditional TV was ~40 minutes of content with 20 minutes of ads

That's generous. In less-privileged countries it was the other way round.

dartharva··on Mozilla says stricter antitrust measures against Google 'threaten Firefox'
It may kill Mozilla, no reason to say it will kill Firefox itself. Perhaps Firefox would flourish a lot more if it is finally released from Mozilla's clutches.
dartharva··on It's time Amazon played by the same rules as everyone else [video]
> Can they use the Amazon-truck they financed from Amazon for non-Amazon deliveries?

I don't know, can they not? If that is the case then it's definitely problematic.

dartharva··on It's time Amazon played by the same rules as everyone else [video]
Isn't that.. worse? Putting local businesses out of jobs and instead consolidating all of them directly under the company's umbrella?
dartharva··on It's time Amazon played by the same rules as everyone else [video]
So, if I understand correctly, does New York want Amazon to not hand over jobs to local small businesses and just instead operate their own fleets? Are they pushing for higher consolidation (and eventual power) to Amazon?
dartharva··on 2027 memory capacity is reportedly sold out
Let this be a wake-up call for self-touted "sovereign" economies around the world. Domestic fabs are a must.
dartharva··on Anthropic CEO reportedly worried new hires only care about money
Like I said, all a performance. Just needed a "positive" reason for drama.
dartharva··on Anthropic CEO reportedly worried new hires only care about money
It's hard to think notions like company loyalty have ever meant something in Silicon Valley. Amodei himself would have never subscribed to a "mission" in the entirety of his career, having jumped from Baidu to Google to OpenAI and finally backstabbing them to form their own company. It's all just a performance; inevitably the same thing is going to happen to Anthropic too.
dartharva··on Xbox goes down. You can't play games you own on disc
All problems with Microsoft products are design and intent problems, not engineering.
dartharva··on Ask HN: What are the viable alternatives to DuckDuckGo?
Non-AI Google Search.

dartharva··on Why Book Corners won't sync contributions back to OpenStreetMap
You could try pinging an OSM dev to see if they're willing to take over the work laterally before calling it quits
dartharva··on US Treasury undertakes historic intervention in yen market
Can you elaborate?
dartharva··on Unraveling the mysteries of habit formation
The paper might explain why it is so. Routine-setting in your brain runs separately than the execution of the activity itself, meaning you need to train the two separately, at least from what I understand.
dartharva··on The End of an Era
Microsoft Word has auto-inserted em-dashes when you use hyphens in such a sentence since forever. Em-dashes are never a proof of AI-generated text.
dartharva··on The End of an Era
Default unspecifically-prompted AI writing makes you vomit, because it has a specific pattern.

But with enough well-defined prompts AI can be made to write in practically any style, often with results unrecognizable as AI-generated.

dartharva··on The Religion of Speed
> It’s treated like proof of seriousness. If you’re moving fast, you’re ambitious. If you’re cautious, you’re scared. If you ask to slow down and think, you’re blocking momentum. If you point out that the current plan has all the structural integrity of wet cardboard, you’re being negative.

For a significant portion of corpo office work, this actually holds. Not all work critically needs perfection, most just needs to be done. The trick is to be able to discern immediately which work does not fall into that category and actually needs to be done slowly and carefully.

dartharva··on You can't solve computer use by ignoring the interface
Damn what computer are you using, a 2015 Raspberry Pi?
dartharva··on Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta warn against overregulating open-weight models
Apple is not an enterprise tech company. It makes and sells luxury consumer devices.
