Not all of those give you brain lesions.

Hmm, I see, yes it's quite limited.

This is possible with the asserts x is y pattern no?

darick··on Top UN legal investigators conclude Israel is guilty of genocide in Gaza
Yes, and surely these minorities are not treated like second class citizens? What's that? "A 2018 report by the Israeli State Comptroller on the protection of non-Jewish civilians found that 46% of Arab citizens in Israel lack access to adequate shelters, compared to 26% of the general population" In the context of bomb shelters.

> - Buying a house: Is this the best return I can get on a downpayment. (Spoiler: It is not).

This depends entirely on how much the mortgage costs compared to the rent you'd otherwise be paying no? It is very much case by case depending on where you live and therefore completely wrong to state as a general rule? In my area mortgages are far cheaper than rent, even if you account for 10% annual returns on your house deposit when renting, you would still come out far behind in the long term

darick··on Vibe code is legacy code
Conflating a scenario that will likely result in many deaths with leaking some customer emails is kind of crazy to me. How are they morally equivalent? Both are bad, but there is a significant difference in how bad IMO.
darick··on ‘No Other Land’ consultant Awdah Hathaleen killed by Israeli settler
Hmm, based on the definition I read, sounds like both sides are doing it, Israel is just much more successful at terrorism and doing it on a much larger scale.
darick··on Why are there no good dinosaur films?
That was on the set of The Hobbit, not LOTR, which used far less CGI

What a crazy take, I'm sure they love Kim Jong Un in North Korea too. In their shoes you'd manage to bring about regime change of course?
darick··on 20 Years of "Not Even Wrong"
I would argue that the difference in phrasing is what makes OP come across badly. "I'm glad I didn't do what that person did" just evokes satisfaction with your decision, perhaps relief that you made the choice you did. Saying you felt "so smug I didn't do what that person did", definitely comes off worse IMO. Now you are not just happy with your choice, there's this sense of self satisfaction/superiority that's a bit unsavoury.
darick··on Deleting and destroying finished movies
From my reading of the article they had offers to buy the film which were more than the $30M tax benefit, but they declined them. If they sell the rights they don't have to handle release.
darick··on AI Generated Seinfeld banned on Twitch for transphobic jokes
There's no world where that is a moral dilemma (for me, maybe it is for you?). The ends don't justify the means is not a general truth, is depends on the means and the ends. If the means is typing a word and the ends is saving millions of lives? That's no different from cutting a red wire as far as I can see. The implication of the phrase is that the means you are using are morally wrong. Any action is a 'means' to an end. I don't see how typing a word (any word) is morally wrong, it's not even being shared with anyone, only used to disarm the bomb.

Maybe it's just a theory but I found this video [0] interesting. Maybe some animals would not be so out of place if we brought them back.

That's just not true, F1 is one of the few examples of a competition that is almost equally about engineering and racing.
darick··on Face masks effectively limit the probability of SARS-CoV-2 transmission
Don't agree that that's the case at all if you wore a mask on a packed tube commute for example.
darick··on Snapchat Can Be Sued for Role in Fatal Car Crash, Court Rules
For me the difference is in the main utility of the app. If all it does is measure, there's no issue IMO, but Snapchat is specifically for sharing content with others. It'd be like having a speedometer or depth meter with a load of 'share your speed/depth to twitter/fb/etc buttons. I would see that as just as bad.
darick··on Snapchat Can Be Sued for Role in Fatal Car Crash, Court Rules
I feel like the crucial difference is context. A speedometer built into a social media app based around sharing video clips/photos is vastly different from a speedometer built into a car.
darick··on Legalizing gay marriage in Crusader Kings III with Ghidra
The decompiled code is just a best guess at what the assembly is doing, it's likely not completely correct or close to compilable, changing the asm is the easiest way to make changes.
