darepublic··on Show HN: Lathoa, a math app for kids where the AI is wrong on purpose
I did not understand "today's case" right away. I thought you were supposed to answer which of the three cards was wrong. Didn't realize it was showing a series of steps the student worked through. As someone else pointed out, khan does have questions like this
darepublic··on I could've accessed 17T Microsoft records
> I’m 16 now, and this one is a little bigger.

Holy! Child prodigy

darepublic··on Pi.dev: You Said No MCP
> The first thing to remember is that the world is not static.

I will use this to talk to my manager about the project status

darepublic··on Show HN: Pac-Bench – How well can models one-shot a Pac-Man game?
This would be a more telling experiment perhaps
darepublic··on Show HN: Pac-Bench – How well can models one-shot a Pac-Man game?
The sad thing is that sol takes under 5 min here but takes 10 minutes to make focused targetted change to crud app
darepublic··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
I agree with you general sentiment but how did you end up in a situation where you feel this way but also wanted to try a VR headset but then also decided to throw it away immediately after trying it seemingly surprised by what the experience was.
darepublic··on Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock
The strong will survive. Ain't no love ain't no gratitude. Just leather jackets and zero sum game theory
darepublic··on Tell HN: Codex Is Down
praise the, grass!
darepublic··on What to do when your Waymo holds up a Secret Service motorcade
I wonder if they could have manually set the car to neutral and then pushed it out of the way?
darepublic··on Training a 4B model to produce 81% faster query plans than Postgres
Mentioned elsewhere but classic ml seems the right tool for this problem
darepublic··on Garry Tan wants US open-weight AI labs to 'distill' frontier models, too
I cannot feel anything but schadenfreude regarding anthropic having its IP stolen from it. Bravo Chinese labs, bravo
darepublic··on Don't be the out of touch Kung Fu master
There is a purely strategic reason for keeping some hand code skills exercised. If you outsource the coding away completely you become dependent on entities that can pull the plug on you. Not arguing it's the right choice to rein in the agentic coding just that there is some rationale for doing so
darepublic··on YouTube had a bug – I used ChatGPT to investigate
I've noticed this bug before too. Seems like an old one
darepublic··on Claude, change the "Add to Cart" button to blue
I blame the hidden context on the tools/subagents. One recent example.. codex can just look in the code for Db schema but continually tries to request permission for a live db query
darepublic··on I resigned from Anthropic today
Fixing our problems will still require human effort and human cooperation. No text output however intelligent or true or eloquent will change that.
darepublic··on The two Christian saints who are the Buddha
Politics and problems don't stem from the story. The story is an after the fact rationalization
darepublic··on Aging Brains Blend Memories Together Instead of Just Forgetting Them
Very poetic metaphor!
darepublic··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
I use beads to create tasks and typically it can hammer out a beads task and then commit under the task id
darepublic··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
Also a codex user but for me brevity is not it's strong suit. I basically have to give it bigger tasks than I am used to to warrant the time it takes to complete. I feel whatever context the tooling adds can also be problematic
darepublic··on ChatGPT Work Tool and Skill Reference
Some of these work tools can slow things down and waste plentiful tokens
darepublic··on Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX
I'm not impressed with cursor and it's decidedly not worth 1 mil in terms of its engineering. Perhaps it's user base and their loyalty makes up the vast majority of its evaluation. But to me it's ridiculous that a dev would use cursor or think that it's indispensable to them
darepublic··on I set a trap for a book-marketing scammer (2025)
need to set up better scams bilking grandad out of money and funneling to a trust for his grandkids
darepublic··on Teaching my kid to code with a modern MUD
thanks for sharing!

I am not happy with the 'kids learn 2 code' space.. which is usually just a bunch of pseudo code move commands to make a character traverse a maze. I think the learning ceiling on this kind of setup is low.

but this seems like something much better. I have myself been doing more ai-powered coding / learning projects with my kids. a ton of potential in this space.

darepublic··on Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin
I feel that the web via browser is in danger. Vast majority of people can be convinced to switch to walled garden apps just like vast majority are fine with tablets, phones aka non open locked down computers. I am a Firefox/ublock user, and prefer browser to mobile apps, however I see the writing on the wall
darepublic··on Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin
I fear that more and more sites increasingly serve different experiences based on things such as the presence of Adblock etc.
darepublic··on No, local models will not win
What about that edge computing. Those cheap drones
darepublic··on Mark Zuckerberg attacks 'closed' AI rivals as Meta returns to open models
It's ironic Zuckerberg would criticize anyone for closing stuff up. Facebook being the classic walled garden. That said the enemy of my enemy etc.
darepublic··on What happens if an entire class of workers loses faith in their careers
I'll never consider my time with programming to be useless. Even if we got sent back to the stone age and programmable computers no longer existed. The way of thinking to me is very valuable
darepublic··on UEFA and its national associations will not participate in FIFA competitions
The world is a reflection of the laws of physics. When complex self propagating systems coexist in an environment with limited material competition arises, and corruption is simply one inevitable result of that.
darepublic··on Interview with Boris Cherny [video]
I do have to still remind codex to fetch large amounts of db records in batches otherwise it will always make a first false step of a naive select all style approach. Context wise naive can be ok for small datasets though so codex didn't know the naive approach was not viable. Context management the new code plumbing these days
