dansquizsoft··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
How do you speak over the loud music though?
dansquizsoft··on Gemini 4 Argon
Real estate? How large do you think data centers are per unit of compute lol...
dansquizsoft··on Gemini 4 Argon
Yeah, I'll bet they haven't even wanted any of that sweet Anthropic revenue from being at the frontier of coding models for the last year...
dansquizsoft··on America.gov
But in government humans are fired all the time! (Especially in mature western democracies)
dansquizsoft··on America.gov
I, for one, completely agree with the statement that 'humans make things up all the time' (often non-maliciously) also
dansquizsoft··on America.gov
Ah, we should keep the general population dumb and uninformed - got it!

Doesn't sound like the original commenter here is supporting anything positive big tech has achieved at all...
dansquizsoft··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
Got any credible sources that data centers are being built with exactly this objective in mind?

Instead of, you know, people who just want to talk to ChatGPT or use Claude models for their software engineering work... I.e. the vast majority of grass-roots AI demand...

dansquizsoft··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
Yes, I'm sure that EU doing its best to ignore building any technology frontier capabilities in its population will lead to a good solution for this lack of VC funding... ;-)

No shortage of visionaries in EU leadership these days :-)

dansquizsoft··on America.gov
> they definitely have some internal tech that competitors don't.

So this is why Google is considered so far ahead of its competitors in the AI race!! (lol)

dansquizsoft··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
Yer this is one such 'reason' for China stopping the release of open weight models in the future, there are many others...
dansquizsoft··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
> so the EU just doesn't have the funds to divert to AI without impacting day to day life of people

The US Government is not a major funder of frontier labs (who are almost exclusively VC and private money funded)...

> as electricity is considerably more expensive here than in the US or China

Yes, there are government policy reasons behind why this is the case. Some would argue that these policy decisions are a net negative for the EU.

> If you ask the people who vote, they'll put safety, grocery and gas prices way above EU's LLM capabilities.

Fair point, these are good things to focus on. However, EU citizens are going to love it when there are no frontier-tech opportunities left in their countries, with everything in this area having to be imported from the US and China (note that just because Chinese firms make open weight models available now, this could easily change very quickly in the future for a variety of reasons).

dansquizsoft··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
Not sure why you think your finger-in-the-wind wind understanding of future AI compute demand should trump the projections of companies who actually operate in this area?

But if you do end up being correct, then the data centers in question will just sit partially or fully idle, using no / a tiny fraction of the electricity and water they could use (which as others have said on this forum, water usage concerns are massively overblown in most data center builds anyway)

dansquizsoft··on Show HN: Pac-Bench – How well can models one-shot a Pac-Man game?
Yeah I noticed that (the extra copy) as soon as I started playing each of the GPT-6 ones... Its gross!!!
dansquizsoft··on AI companies in race to demonstrate their model most threatening to humanity
It never ceases to amaze me how interested and opinionated members of the general public is in what private investors do with their money...
dansquizsoft··on Plan mode is dead
Yer, it’s probably best to face reality and understand that for actual software engineering / complex coding work - Anthropic models are way ahead of OpenAIs…
dansquizsoft··on Stripe's Knowledge AI Platform
> This sounds more like a criticism of older versions of LangChain than its current APIs

Oh no worries, I'm always happy when library / sdk makers are constantly changing their APIs in-between versions. Why would I not want to spend time updating my code to return to baseline functionality when I could have just built something using the 4-year stable underlying chat completions API instead...?

How dare you say this? These billionaires all work extremely hard for their money!

Wdym? GPT-6-Astra is AGI - Jensen even said so!

dansquizsoft··on Linux support is coming to Snapdragon X2 series
> Hopefully this means Framework releases an X2 mainboard as it would be a match made in heaven.

My friend showed me his brand new Framework the other day, but I couldn't hear his spiel about its features over the noise of its fan!

dansquizsoft··on Linux support is coming to Snapdragon X2 series
> Consider me cautiously optimistic.

Consider me dangerously pessimistic

dansquizsoft··on Linux support is coming to Snapdragon X2 series
Omg, words can't describe how completely botched the Snapdragon X series chip launches have been.

You hold them up to the Apple M series rollout and its just hilarious how far "the competition" is behind when it comes to laptop low power CPUs

Ugh, please no, why isn't these instructions in the system prompt of the harness if they are so valuable to the junior's work...?

dansquizsoft··on Winning the visa lottery
> The danger is when/if people selectively choose studies

This, in itself, assumes that all studies / papers are equally as good and methodologically sound, which is not a true assumption.

dansquizsoft··on Winning the visa lottery
> But more often, the “fact” does not address the individual’s issues,

I feel like this has been a big failing of one (left) side of politics in recent years. Quick to state 'facts' as arguments but those haven't landed as well as they have in the past (15 - 20+ years ago), for whatever reasons...
