danielktdoranie··on Windows 2000 Server named peak Microsoft
it sure does
danielktdoranie··on Windows 2000 Server named peak Microsoft
Windows ME was peak Microsoft, buggy, glitchy, a haven for viruses. It was pure crap and that defined best what Microsoft was and is: cancer
danielktdoranie··on Vacheron Constantin breaks the world record for most complicated wristwatch
Sounds complicated
danielktdoranie··on India's repair culture gives new life to dead laptops
One of the events in my early life that got me interested in computers was a friend from middle school who lived near a Radio Shack and a neighbourhood computer store. He dumpster dived and got every computer he owned that way. He had a couple of Macintosh computers, this was like 1992, with cracked plastics. I enjoyed just sitting there and watching him tinker. His entire bedroom was filled with stuff he liberated from dumpster diving.

danielktdoranie··on Commercials that David Lynch directed (2018)
360p quality. I understand some of these videos were uploaded from VHS and the quality has degraded over time with different compression algorithms being applied but a lot of the later commercials are out there in 1080p on YouTube. It is great to have all his commercials in one place but it would be far better to have the best quality video ripped and if it isn’t up to snuff, use AI video upscaling.
danielktdoranie··on Upcoming Windows 11 builds cannot install without internet and Microsoft Account
The Steam Deck has done well, and releasing SteamOS for free so people can install it on their own PCs is great, but I think they should make a “Steam PC” they could sell. The majority of gamers aren’t technical and buy pre-built PCs. A Steam PC with Steam OS pre-installed would make it easy for these people to game on Linux and pump up the Linux gaming share of the gaming market.

I avoid Microsoft products at any cost, and have done so since I began using computers in the 1980s. I suggest others do the same. The company and its practices are unethical and morally bankrupt: and those products don’t even work well. The more people who stop using Windows the less they will have control of gaming.
danielktdoranie··on "Moonshots" Initiative to Secure the Future of RISC OS
Well a priority should be to make RISC OS truly preemptive multitasking, as they’ve talked about doing for decades. Right now it has cooperative multitasking. I’d love to see RISC OS saved, it’s a very quick operating system. In my anecdotal experience one of the biggest problems is its confusing status of some versions being closed source and for profit and other versions being open source and free. Until recently I owned a PineBook Pro and I wanted to run RISC OS on it. The only way to do that was to pay some company £399 British Pounds Sterling. This company sells a PineBook Pro, that comes pre-installed with RISC OS. When is explained that I already owned a PineBook Pro the salesman said he could “do me deal” and sell me an SD card for £299. Meanwhile I can run RISC OS on my Raspberry Pi. For FREE. You find these exploitative individuals and companies in many of the retro communities, people that want to make a buck off your desire for tactile nostalgia: these people hold back RISC OS from adoption. I also own Amiga 500 computer. The best accelerator available (in this man’s opinion) is the PiStorm. A completely open source project made better by emu68, another open source project. The PiStorm (including the Raspberry Pi 3 Model A) cost me IIRC €75. While it’s competitor the closed Vampire accelerator costs €400.

Hopefully this means we’ll get an iPadOS and macOS release :-)
danielktdoranie··on Netflix Increases Prices Again
Ugh. I was thinking to re-join as there was content I was interested in viewing, namely “part 3” of Squid Game when it comes out. Not now, I’ll just torrent it.
danielktdoranie··on Trump announces a $500B private AI infrastructure investment
Excellent news. Listening to the announcement now. Seems the focus is going to be Medical.
danielktdoranie··on I've been advocating for RSS support, and you should too
Did you read all of my post? I explained one of my uses of RSS pretty thoroughly
danielktdoranie··on [dead]
It’s literally an egg, not a UFO that is egg shaped but literally an egg like the kind in kitchens around the world. Notice: if the egg is 20 feet long then the blades of grass are massive. The hammock looking cradle carrying this “UFO” ridges would have to be 10 to 12 inches apart. Oh and the rope(?)and the cradle holding the egg are of the same material.

You’re carrying a priceless UFO and you just dump it on the ground on the grass?

Why use this hammock cradle thing when you could use a proper net?

This hammock sticks to the egg, it’s a green coloured bandage.

I’m not even going to touch on the pure crazy crap the UFO “whistleblower” said in the interview.

This is all a grift.

danielktdoranie··on Google begins requiring JavaScript for Google Search
Yet another reason to stop supporting Google with your clicks. Remember when their moto was “Don’t be evil”?
danielktdoranie··on I've been advocating for RSS support, and you should too
I love RSS and I actively used it until modern browsers dropped support for it and then websites stopped using it. I always felt RSS being dropped wasn’t the choice of users but more a conspiracy between those browser developers (or rather their managers and company leaders) and marketing/sales departments of pretty much any company that advertises on the internet: Google being the main one.

Why? You can’t bombard RSS with advertising like you can on browsers and if people could get the information they need from RSS they won’t see ads.

I recall the dropping of RSS happened over 6 months to my recollection. RSS was here and every website of merit used it, then all of a sudden Chrome, FireFox and Safari all dropped RSS support. You could go and install a separate RSS client but few people did that (extra steps and all) and then websites saw no one was using RSS and dropped support.

RSS was particularly useful for browsing jobs for IT contractors. I used it daily, using RSS I was able to get job listings fast and apply before other candidates.

danielktdoranie··on New 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 on sale now at $120
I think that’s a fair price for a 16GB RAM Raspberry Pi 5

I wonder if this means the 16GB Pi 500 wedge computer will be $150?

danielktdoranie··on Updates to H-1B
Exactly, it's creaper to fire foriegn workers as they will work for much less. It's a racket. I hope the Trump adminstration cracks down on this. Employers need to prove there's no available and qualified applicant beofore the H-1B is approved. They also need to prove they are paying the same to a domestic applicant as they would a foreign candidate.
danielktdoranie··on Lost IBM OS/2 Warp 3 and 4 localizations: Looking for help finding and archiving
Yeah it's really odd how much OS/2 software has been lost considering the last IBM release of OS/2 Warp was only December 2001. Thanks for your work. Personally, I am currently debating buying a ThinkPad T23 or T30 and dual booting OS/2 Warp 4.51 and Arca OS 5.1

danielktdoranie··on Trump wins presidency for second time
Except the Haitians really are eating dogs and cats. I have seen the video and photographic evidence. They see it as free food. You think cats and dogs wander Haiti in massive numbers? No, they eat them. They’re starving.
danielktdoranie··on Trump wins presidency for second time
Their “Trump is a dictator, literally Hitler, who will take away womens right to vote” didn’t work the first time in 2015/2016 and it didn’t work this time either. The U.S.A knows what a Trump presidency is like and they voted to have it again: it was that good.

Democrats got their chance the last 4 years and instead of making the lives of U.S. Citizens better, they made it much worse, and shoved social justice issues down their throats that they didn’t want.

Cop on.
