Well a priority should be to make RISC OS truly preemptive multitasking, as they’ve talked about doing for decades. Right now it has cooperative multitasking. I’d love to see RISC OS saved, it’s a very quick operating system. In my anecdotal experience one of the biggest problems is its confusing status of some versions being closed source and for profit and other versions being open source and free. Until recently I owned a PineBook Pro and I wanted to run RISC OS on it. The only way to do that was to pay some company £399 British Pounds Sterling. This company sells a PineBook Pro, that comes pre-installed with RISC OS. When is explained that I already owned a PineBook Pro the salesman said he could “do me deal” and sell me an SD card for £299. Meanwhile I can run RISC OS on my Raspberry Pi. For FREE. You find these exploitative individuals and companies in many of the retro communities, people that want to make a buck off your desire for tactile nostalgia: these people hold back RISC OS from adoption. I also own Amiga 500 computer. The best accelerator available (in this man’s opinion) is the PiStorm. A completely open source project made better by emu68, another open source project. The PiStorm (including the Raspberry Pi 3 Model A) cost me IIRC €75. While it’s competitor the closed Vampire accelerator costs €400.
