Is Privacy Badger affected as well? (how is Privacy Badger different from uBlock?)

dandare··on Even with Agile and Scrum waterfall will sneak in
I am ok doing waterfall - what I can't stand is doing waterfall dressed as agile&scrum.

Agile&scrum are internally inconsistent methodologies which means that a bad faith actor (be it a smart but asshole engineer or clueless boss) can always point out you are doing something wrong (against the theory), regardless of the flavour/school you are using.

dandare··on YouTube suspended my account for posting DeFi hackathon video
Sorry if that was not clear, my wife and I live on the same address in the same country. Her billing address is same as mine. I checked the net and Google product forums for possible solutions, checked the billing address, Play store settings, nothing helped.
dandare··on YouTube suspended my account for posting DeFi hackathon video
> I am a paid Youtube Music subscriber

The saying goes that if you don't paid for it then you are the product. So I subscribed to YouTube Music family plan, thinking I won't be the product. But my wife's account will always return an error saying that she is in a different country or something. I tried to reach the support for help but never got any reply. In the end I cancelled the subscription. Google is simply too big to care about individual users.

dandare··on Zrythm: A highly automated and intuitive digital audio workstation
With a free software like this I am always wondering what is the business model, how do they make money?
dandare··on Empty and Misleading Communication Takes over Organizations (2020)
I am not sure, I googled https://www.google.com/search?q=%22permissive+uncertainty%22 and most of the top results refer back to this paper or similar website talking about bullshitry. But maybe I am wrong and this is a real professional jargon of a real profession.
dandare··on Empty and Misleading Communication Takes over Organizations (2020)
Almost every top management memo be like (random snippets from my inbox):

> "I’d like to echo XXX’s sentiments about the opportunities this organizational change creates.."

> "YYY has been integral to the growth and success of the Y team. Her tireless passion has been a source of great inspiration and she will be greatly missed - thank you so much YYY! With YYY's departure, we are very fortunate to see one of our very own exceptional leaders..."

> "You’ve heard us talk about our focus on reaccelerating our new business growth in fiscal year 2022, and while last year was challenging on many fronts, your continued focus on supporting each other, our customers, and our communities enabled us to successfully weather the storm and set ourselves up for a strong FY22 and beyond."

> "From day one, XXX has been a driving force in helping ZZZ become the unquestioned HHH industry leader and a true visionary for the future of work. Along the way she has played key leadership roles across ..."

dandare··on Empty and Misleading Communication Takes over Organizations (2020)
The paper itself, 4th paragraph of the Introduction chapter:

> speech community [...] conceptual entrepreneurs [...] noisy ignorance [...] permissive uncertainty [...] surface-level agreement

Am I uneducated or is the author trolling?

dandare··on Pixel sent to Google for replacement. They used it to post wife's nudes online
How do you disable your old phones especially those those that do not work (due to shattered screen mostly) before giving them up for recycling or buyback?

I am always worried someone will fix and misuse my old phone.

dandare··on Staples Center to be renamed Crypto.com Arena as part of 20yr naming rights deal
Excuse me, I have been living under a rock lately, has there been a breakthrough in blockchain's utility I missed? Other than money laundering and an investment bubble?
dandare··on Amazon to stop accepting UK Visa credit cards
A) how much are the transaction fees in yhe first place?

B) I remember being charged an extra buck when I choose a credit card as my payment method. Why couldn't retailers just do this?

dandare··on A great organic-food fraud
IMHO Organic food is a fraud by definition. You are still expected to use pesticides, but only the "natural" ones, which are less effective, so you end up applying more poison to a crop than non-organic farmer.

Oh, and farmers are expected to use homeopathy and other quackery on sick animals, at least in the EU.

dandare··on Can't Get You Out of My Head

dandare··on Energy, and How to Get It
That's what Archaea said too :)
dandare··on Energy, and How to Get It
> Mitochondrial DNA seems to be passed down from generation to generation exclusively by the mother; sperm contributes nothing

How do mitochondria evolve if they are just clones passed down from mothers? Or rather, how come there are not huge differences between populations of people whose mitochondria evolved in different direction but can never mix?

dandare··on Batavia shipwreck reveals a key to Dutch success in 17th-century world trade

dandare··on Overly analytical guide to escorting
Are you sure it is a partisan issue? From what I know many progressives see any kind of sex work as exploitation of women.
dandare··on What’s Vivaldi’s business model?
> Some use your data in ad networks, push promoted content or use other invasive methods to fund their development. We don’t.

"We don’t - directly. Instead we make deals with search engines and bookmark partners who's business model is exactly as described above. In other words, we too live off you data, but we outsource the hard lifting to our partners. "

dandare··on A catalog of wealth-creation mechanisms (2009)
You are wrong in a very classical, meaning half of earthlings believe this misconception.

Trade can make both sides richer. Some would say any voluntary trade makes both sides richer, but that depends on your definition of voluntarism and exploitation of someone's weakness.

Anyway, for trade that makes both sides really richer in any sense of that word see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_advantage#Ricardo'...

dandare··on A catalog of wealth-creation mechanisms (2009)
Also capital (aka delayed consumption) creates value, under specific circumstances.
dandare··on A catalog of wealth-creation mechanisms (2009)
Trade creates value and not just in the way of moving things. The law of comparative advantages is mind blowing once you understand it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_advantage#Ricardo'....
dandare··on The new warrant: how US police mine Google for your location and search history
Would switching Location History off help in this case? And why can't governments use data from mobile network providers? The BTS towers know your location at all times.
dandare··on Prefer the British Style of Quotation Mark Punctuation over the American
Redundant and ugly are very subjective qualities in this case.
dandare··on U.S. Treasury Data Lab

Bonus question: can you find the judicial branch and the legislative branch?

dandare··on My university sacrificed ideas for ideology, so today I quit
> Some of his experimental papers where he talks of "dog rape" were perhaps borne out of his outrage at his situation

You may have misunderstood the whole Grievance Studies affair. The papers were not experimental, they were deliberately and visibly fake in order to point out the ridiculousness of the whole field.

dandare··on I am often asked if I will “return to cryptocurrency”
So many attack on capitalism ITT. I wish we could have rational discussion about whatever word problem while at the same time not trash the idea of private ownership, competitive markets and investment for profit.

Mind you, every successful country today runs on a MIXED economic system, and communism (or anarchy for that matter) failed every time it was tried.

dandare··on Saudi Arabia executes Mustafa al-Darwish for teenage protests
As you can see by the number of downvotes, sometimes reason is unwelcome even on HN.
dandare··on Saudi Arabia executes Mustafa al-Darwish for teenage protests
a) That is technically true and it makes me super angry that US in a way normalised torture.

b) While it is technically true, I assume the prevalence is orders of magnitude smaller. Still, cases like Abu Zubaydah are extremely disturbing.
