danbala··on Parallel coding agents with tmux and Markdown specs
for anything web related, simply with the chrome claude plugin. then claude code can control the browser (and 'see' what's showing),
danbala··on Show HN: Gemini Pro 3 imagines the HN front page 10 years from now
I'm missing an announcement like: 2nd confirmed person paid for their winrar license!
danbala··on Tell HN: I Lost Joy of Programming
interesting, i have the exact opposite reaction. I had kinda become bored and disillusioned by coding. These tools have brought back the joy of creating things in code for me. Went through all my long forgotten side projects and managed to finish them. So happy to have all of these things done and up and running.
danbala··on An analysis of DeepSeek's R1-Zero and R1
shouldn't the whole idea be: get away from needing data at all? if a model can really reason, it should be able to figure things out on its own.
danbala··on iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
plays to the normal tendency of humans not to want to interact with other humans.
danbala··on GPT-4o
So far. :)
danbala··on GPT-4o
were you using a single account? or is there an setting now to define a family?
danbala··on GPT-4o
exactly. Hope we can customize the voice soon. I want to talk to ultron... or the one from mass effect
danbala··on GPT-4o
The goal is to end up with a model capable of discovering all the knowledge on its own. not rely on what humans produced before. Human knowledge contains errors, I want the model to point out those errors and fix them. the current state is a crutch at best to get over the current low capability of the models.
danbala··on What I wish I knew about ESPP and RSUs sooner
came here to post exactly that ;)
danbala··on Two-Thirds of U.S. Adults Would Rather Wait to Watch Movies on Streaming
contrary to most of the comments here, I actively enjoy going to the movies. Have always, and still do. To some of the points raised, I live in a decidedly rural area. So consequently, grabbing a movie at 10pm fairly frequently leads to me having the imax all to myself. Another contributing factory might be that I tend to go during week nights, and after the opening weekend. It's true that the home experience has improved tremendously over the years (I've had a projector+retractable ceiling screen for over a decade), it doesn't come close to an imax sized screen.
danbala··on Meta outage
maybe a long tail consequence of further shifting traffic?
danbala··on Plane got to top spot in project management on GitHub in less than a year
this doesn't bode well: https://docs.plane.so/self-hosting -> 404

danbala··on The cult of the Obsidian note-taking app
very similar to foam, isnt it?
danbala··on DALL·E 3
To be fair, nsfw is a considerable market, which itself is plenty big enough for hold many many businesses. llm trained on literotica, anyone?
danbala··on Launch HN: Bloop (YC S21) – Code Search with GPT-4
pretty quickly llvm/ai support is going to be more on the level of electricity itself. like a utility.
danbala··on Ask HN: Why do many CS graduates lack foundational knowledge?
for some, 'compiler construction' would count as foundational skill. But realistically nowadays it is a skill that is neither necessary, nor all that helpful in a typical day as SWE. There was a very narrow sliver of time (maybe 95-05) where this was a skill you'd be using outside of your CS class. While I do agree with your basic sentiment of 'CS doesn't teach the same things as 20 years ago', I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Those who like to dig to that level will do so on their own (just like not everybody likes to study analytical topology).
danbala··on HackerFM – An AI Generated HN Podcast Using the New ChatGPT API
curious about that too. the female sounds a little bit like the tortoise-tts train_grace voice model?
danbala··on HackerFM – An AI Generated HN Podcast Using the New ChatGPT API
or actual real callers. speech to text should be fast enough for that, right?
danbala··on How should AI systems behave, and who should decide?
It certainly should not censor knowledge like it currently does. I can go into any library, find the chemistry section and learn how to make nitroglycerin. Yet chatgpt outright refuses to give me the same knowledge. I'm ok with it giving me a talk about safety hazards and whatnot, but it should not be allowed to decide what I am allowed to know and what i'm not allowed to.
danbala··on Python Language Summit: Python Without the GIL
almost like people should test their code before using a new python version in production.
danbala··on About Three-in-Ten U.S. Adults Are Now Religiously Unaffiliated
that is a scarily low number of rational people :/
danbala··on Back to PC after 14 years on a MacBook
bottom line: it's all still very subjective. Some people will get along better with windows, some won't. I'm more annoyed that there are pretty much only three options out there (Linux,Win,Mac) :/
danbala··on [dead]
really? 2 signatures (still at this moment) is NO strong support. I suspect a ploy!
danbala··on Poll: What databases does your company use?
