At first it's opt-in then it becomes the default setting. Are you a developer? If you are then you should be used to thinking at least 2 steps ahead and just seeing what's literally visible in front of you.

Really, what country would that be? I call BS. And when ever I read "military grade encryption" I'm thinking buzzwords. Don't make yourself sound more important than you actually are.

Most criminals are criminals because of the circumstances. Circumstances can be improved but they'd rather spend 5.5 billion (the one after the million) € on Eurofighters than make away with poverty.

We could go back and forth and it would change nothing at all because no one from the EC will see it and as an EU citizen I can't change the resolution, because the EP can't do anything about it.

And just because there are "criminals" doesn't mean that I have to live behind steel bars in my house and let every letter be seen by some policeman before I read it. We're also not talking about criminals, we're talking about some guy who's country was attacked, maybe his family killed. Who knows what his motives were? I don't. US, EU, Russia, Turkey all waged a proxy war in Syria. If not for that war maybe he would not had done what he did. If not for 9/11 there would be no ISIS.

Why does the US have to plunder other countries? Instigate wars in other countries? If anything we should send to refugees to the US because they're to blame for it all.

You're distracting away from the main issue that the EP has no rights to overrule the EC.

If you let fear be your guide you would never even leave the house. Don't do bad things and there won't be terrorists. Attack other countries, incite wars and you'll have them.

It's simple. Don't be a douche and no one will slap your face.

I don't think it's possible. I remind you about how much we protested against the upload filters about hosts being responsible for content their users upload, about the censorship laws in general in 2018. The protesters were called "bots". When the young people went out and protested they were defamed. In the end everything passed by a shady vote. That is why we need to leave the EU. How do you fix a dictatorship? You can't fix it, you can kill or peacefully leave. The system is flawed, read the Lisboa treaty.

Really, lies and slander, ad hominem attacks? I have expected more from a news site frequented by supposedly educated people.

Thanks, I couldn't have written it better. @lprd It was all over the news in the German language sphere, which I happen to receive via satellite. (German and Austrian news). I don't have links at the ready but you're able to find them with a little google-fu (or similar search engine).

I remind the readers about the upload filters "guidelines" and other internet censorship "guidelines". The EU is not a democracy, it's a corrupt rule of a few political elites. And they want to spy on us. First they went the NSA route, and when that blew up because of Edward Snowden, now they want their own NSA.

In which democracy does a parliament elected by the people have 0 rights over a council? And the council has veto power about anything the parliament decides? Is that a democracy? No it's not.

Those are the people who make the rules: https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/european-council/members/

It doesn't matter who's in the parliament as they're powerless to decide anything meaningful.

This shows that the attack was planned by the powers that be, if not planned at least not actively blocked.

It was 1 guy with a weapon that the Austrian secret service was warned about. The media made it 6 people doing a huge thing, in the end it was just 1 guy with an AK47 apparently. Austrian intelligence was warned by the Slovaks about him and they let him do regardless. Just like the 9/11 stuff, they knew what was coming and they allowed it because it suited their political agenda.

1 guy shooting around doesn't justify chat apps being monitored. This is a political setup.

We need to leave the EU ASAP.

Since when does Google allow you to watch porn? They do everything to fight it. You can't even install legit porn apps without manually downloading the apk. And then it only works on your phone and tablet, not the TV where it would actually be desired to work. Also what right does Google have to tell me what I can and can't watch on my TV/device?
dalu··on Why not use GraphQL?
Then what's the point when you essentially have the equivalent of REST
dalu··on Why not use GraphQL?
But but isn't GraphQL the swiss army knife where you don't have to write queries anymore as some posters suggest?

My point remains, why write queries when you can query endpoints and write filters easily without having to learn a new query language?

dalu··on Why not use GraphQL?
I have a backend generator that also generates typescript and dart models for the frontends. > Ability to unify different backends Why would that be a GraphQL exclusive thing? > - The “application data graph” ... In my generator I supply the models with relationships, type checked using Go. So when creating those models I write code directly, no need to use a pseudo language like GraphQL.

> (not really keen on writing my application logic in SQL) Maybe you should learn it, as it's really simple and powerful as opposed to the GraphQL language. But for the record, neither do I write SQL queries using my generator and last time I had to write SQL was in the 2000s when I was still using PHP. Nowadays I just write my data models and generate the backend and implement the frontend. And I don't need GraphQL for it. @ngrx-data for Angular simplifies communication with the backend. And since I generate my notifier/updater too I have real-time updates via websocket. There's nothing GraphQL offers I don't already do since 2016.

dalu··on Why not use GraphQL?
I don't use GraphQL and I have subscriptions or real time updates as well. On the backend whenever I do a equivalent of INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE I send a message over a websocket connection out to the connected clients. The client sends it's context whenever that changes so that the client only receives the necessary updates. I don't need GraphQL for that and I know what my code does, but with GraphQL I don't. I use Go on the server side and Angular or Flutter on the client side.
dalu··on Why not use GraphQL?
How is a single endpoint for all queries a good idea from both front and back end perspectives? How is writing queries in the front end and exposing those queries a good idea? How is exposing the back end data structures a good idea?

GraphQL is bad. You increase transparency on the client side and decrease maintainability on the server side. It's the worst of both worlds. I don't understand how people are advocating it, but then again you know how it goes, "eat more shit, millions of flies can't be wrong"

Plus now you have to learn yet another query language.

dalu··on A concise guide to the latest Go generics draft design
it doesn't matter what we say, Go is owned by Google and what they decide is the Alpha&Omega, everything else will be silenced, banned, ridiculed, ignored, closed, deleted. And in my case, my Adsense sites suddenly having "policy violations" after 14 years of existence and pages being removed or deranked from the Google index. Be careful what you say because those powertripping ivory tower elitists will destroy your business if you have any earnings from a partnership with one of their products. I'm willing to be if I had GCE containers they would also have magical errors appearing just in the moment when I DARED suggest they revert a font and they change their "brand" because it's soulless and has nothing to do anymore with the spirit that made Go popular, simplicity and readable code. Oh and of course one corrupt organization washes the other's hands. Your github account will get flagged without notice or reason given and inquiries will remain unanswered by Github. Corrupt bastards is what the Go developers are.

Go is not your (as in mine, ours) language. It's a language owned by a corporation that turned evil, that spies on all of us and hands out data to governments. An evil corporation that cooperates with totalitarian regimes, because their mindset is similar anyway, so what's the deal, right? All just business as usual. Screw the public, we own the place. .|.. 50 or 100GB isn't really a whole lot. I couldn't live with those limits. OUr 2 person household usually generates/consumes 600GB-1TB traffic / month. IPTV, Games, Downloads, Uploads.
dalu··on 5G standard is ready: Rel-15 success spans 3GPP groups
How is latency for you? When watching a stream or downloading latency which playing an online game jumps up to ~1s (1000ms) in the game. Croatian TELE2 provider, indoors at -92 dBm. Usual latency is about 15-20ms doing ookla speedtest but "real life" it's about 40-50ms.
dalu··on 5G standard is ready: Rel-15 success spans 3GPP groups
Maybe someone could help me with a LTE issue here... I'm in Croatia, about 1km from the tower, -70 dBm. The (ZTE MF286) router has a MTU 1500 and MSS 1300 setting. I can change this setting. In Germany I have a VDSL (Telekom DSL) 100/40 MBit/s home network. A Fritz!Box 7590 is on the front and it's providing VPN access over old age cisco type xauth1+psk (aka user pass and group pass). When I try to connect in Archlinux using Networkmanager-vpnc I can connect to the German home network. But I can't ssh into any boxes in the German network. I am able to do that over Croatian DSL without issues. The adapter's MTU is 1500 and the tun0 MTU is 1412. So this works over DSL but not over TLE.

When I change the adapter's MTU down to 1420 (reading libreswan's site I stumbled upon this value) I can login via ssh and seemingly also use it as it's supposed to. But then other issues arise... TLS Handshakes timing out. As if a dog is trying to chase its tail. I've canceled the TLE service subscription in the 14 day period because of that and I'm going to return the router today in 4 hours tops. This this is kind of a last straw kind of help request. Otherwise I'm stuck on a 14/1 Mbit/s VDSL connection which is painful to say the least, but at least I'm able to ssh into my German home network without problems.

dalu··on Build a Focus System for Better Work/Life Balance as a Web Developer
idk.. every time I open a page like this I think "what are they going to try and sell me this time"

Everyone is different. For instance I have productivity phases, and non-productivity phases.

I have about 2-3 weeks of hardcore 12-14 hours / day coding sprees and then I just can't even if I try and sit there for hours, nothing good or much happens. So I do other, fun stuff, not work related, useless wastes of time. And then I see something or get reminded of something and BAM I'm back on the coding spree and I dare you to interrupt me. I order food, at most I take a 30min walk out the house for bare minimum health, but the rest of time is dedicated to getting the job done. And then... relaxation phase.

And something else. If my mind feels like it need to wander off, then it should. You don't sprint all the time, you also sit down somewhere and enjoy the scenery. That wandering mind thing means you need a break and maybe should end work soonish and do fun things.
