dalemhurley··on Australia's social media ban has failed
What houses cost under $1.5m?

Plenty of single income families had their children on social media.

This is just a conflation of different issues to push an unrealistic narrative.

dalemhurley··on Australia's social media ban has failed
Exactly. This is a pathetic excuse of “journalism”
dalemhurley··on Australia's social media ban has failed
This is pathetic, it is like saying anti smoking laws failed because within a few months teens were still smoking. This is a generational change. No sane person ever expected teens already using social media would stop using social media. It is the next cohort that it is going to make a difference to.

I expect better from Reuters than to be the propaganda mouthpiece of social media platforms.

dalemhurley··on Google News is just Forrest Gump's shrimp boat now
Google search was never a good product (just better than the other alternatives), it was always full of SEO slop from people gaming the algorithm with low quality Wiki How’s etc. It is now that LLMs are better, not perfect, it apprentices how bad it was.
dalemhurley··on UEFA and its national associations will not participate in FIFA competitions
USA vs Australia grand final!
dalemhurley··on Our position on open-weights models
Let’s be honest, you don’t need a 3T model for bad actors, in fact you would be better off training a smaller focused model if you want an evil GPT.
dalemhurley··on Engineering management after the cost of code collapsed
I think you can have some system design in mind upfront, but agree the bulk emerges as you code. Clean Code practices worked exactly this way in which you write and then rewrite the clean code.
dalemhurley··on Cursor 0day: When Full Disclosure Becomes the Only Protection Left
Except it might come from a trusted repo. Some of the biggest repos have been recently targeted in supply chain attacks. Consider for a moment

1. Attacker takes over maintenance of a widely used Cursor extension

2. Attacker adds a remote backdoor to monitor which repos are being maintained

3. Attacker decides to only infect the largest one with a git commit hook

4. The developer didn’t even know they just included git.exe in their commit

5. The developer is a sole maintainer on the repo and merges their own PR without review (because they(/their AI) wrote it)

6. Now a trusted repo is infected

7. A contributor pulls down the infected repo and opens cursor

dalemhurley··on Cursor 0day: When Full Disclosure Becomes the Only Protection Left
From the article it occurs when Cursor is loaded. iDEs do a lot of stuff when they first open.
dalemhurley··on Cursor 0day: When Full Disclosure Becomes the Only Protection Left
If your an opensource developer you may get a pull request containing the the git.exe

three.js and Vite, very basic, I set out originally to make a game where Neil knocks over cones and grew it from there. If I was to start again I would use a game engine as it has scaled further than I intended.

What do you mean by "infinite spiral"?

dalemhurley··on Show HN: Neil the Seal Game
Goat Simulator is such good game and a lot more intense, I want Neil The Seal to be more chilled.

Untitled Goose Game is an inspiration, UGG is such a beautiful game with such amazing attention to detail.

push a burning car next to another car.

Absolutely, I honestly thought it would be my kids and a few people into indie would like it, Cloudflare says there has been over 50k unique visitors which is pretty amazing, and a good sign that it could be more.
dalemhurley··on Show HN: Neil the Seal Game
I didn't know the reference, I wanted to add funny elements to destroying the houses.
dalemhurley··on Show HN: Neil the Seal Game
thank you, that has been fixed.
dalemhurley··on Show HN: Neil the Seal Game

Joystick has been improved, I just dampened it down a little. I will look at the cars, I deliberately added the back and front sensitivity in an early version, it is okay on desktop horrible on mobile. Battery improvements implemented dropping the load by 90% with a minor change :)
dalemhurley··on Show HN: Neil the Seal Game
fixed now
