It tells a lot that Altman made openAI so dependend on him that his ousting could have killed the company. That's also contributing to the fact that the board was not trusting him
But then he tried to do it again with a saudi contract. OpenAI board said explicitly they didn't want the partnership, and especially not tied to Altman personally being the CEO as a clause.
Altman did it behind their back -> fired.
This is the rumour on the streets, unconfirmed though
no, that's pure marketing. They have difficulty scaling it in a cost effective way. simple as that. Everything else is just sales talk
its as stupid as that. some try to get around it by indeed only having the 10 different digits and glue them together, but its a hallucination that that works.
an important point in generalization is for example that you teach it something. This is literally important
'ycombinator is a website' is a prompt that is almost impossible of ycombinator is not in your training set
He tells what others like to hear, and manages to gain money out of it
Microsoft is showing that it is still able to capture important scale ups and 'embrace' them, whilst also acting as if they have the moral high ground, but in reality are doing research with a high governance errors and potential legal problems away from their premises. and THAT is why stakeholders like him.
allegedly again, the board wanted Sam to stop doing this, and now he was trying to do the same thing with some saudi investors, or actually already did it behind their back, i dont know
It seems this was a coup of Microsoft together with Altman to go full force ahead with the commercial upscaling.
In the past there was already a small uprising, and all who didn't like the Altman cult ran off to anthropic. So all that's left in openai are huge fans of Altman. So it only makes sense that you piss off almost all remaining employees, its survivor bias at work.
Is Teams the best option? No, but it's the most used.
Is Excel the best option? Who cares in a world where Airtable, Google Sheets, Monday, Notion, is blocked by the company firewall, you take what you can get and you start to do things with Excel that are not a spreadsheet anymore, just because it's the only thing left.
Is Azure the best cloud? AWS and GCP are clearly more developer friendly, but they don't get to choose.
You want to use Jetbrains tools? Too bad, your company decided on VSCode. Because surely those are the same.
You want to use Miro? Too bad, your company decided on Microsoft Whiteboard. Was there an RFP? No it just came with Office licenses.
This is why people are sick of Microsoft, and it's happening again with OpenAI now. Most don't even have a choice to experiment with Anthropic or try out Llama. Some DPO/CTO/CDO exec love their microsoft contract and it's hindering digital innovation so much
it all makes sense in hindsight that Microsoft committed a coup, and it's not from inside OpenAI
the new CEO wanted to focus on something else than LLMs, because it's believed to be a dead end, and allocate more time and resources into grounding AI.
they don't want AI to slow down, they want to try out something else and not put all their eggs in one basket. extremely big difference
Let someone else take up the CEO role, which is a different skillset anyway.
Download 10 ebooks on a subject, scroll through, read a few excerpts, and the one that I actually start reading, I buy from amazon or a local bookstore and actually read it.
Many books look great, but once you start reading them, are total garbage. This is in the field of IT literature though, so books tend to be very hit or miss, and quickly outdated.
Hard disagree with this one.
Summing all numbers from 1 to 100 is easy, summing 1 to a million is also easy, just time consuming. 1+2+3+4....
Coming up with (n*(1+n))/2 is not.
Add in 2 EV's per household and you won't be able to do it all year round without grid connections.
If you are going to learn computer architecture, you will learn something cheap you have on hand
150 sized company in a small EU country. We have a silver enterprise contract.
It's just a different target audience. Especially women don't like the highly visual stuff. They tend to favor a relaxing text.

Very cost effective.
Students still care and should have learned these principles in uni. They tend to overengineer and focus too much on the technical challenges
In bigger companies, most IT people tend to be people who got the job because they started coding back in the day when you could get by using just common sense and gut feeling. Today we know those often lead to dark patterns and bad database design, but those people have now grown into architecture and management positions and have no clue what they are talking about.
This is very prevalent in tech teams of non tech companies (e.g. manufacturing, banking, healthcare, CPGs,...)
Postgres is super well supported, basically every tool out there has a connector to postgres, and most people have familiarity
If I am honest, I never even bother researching alternatives, I always go with postgres out of habit. I know it, and it has never let me down
- here is how to optimize your database - here is why that works from a theorethical perspective - by the way, our product makes this process easier
that's fine by me
I assume it had a discrete gpu in it, which caused issues with stability.
I fixed mine by putting the gpu in the oven for a few hours. Continued to work for a few months. Then i did it again, and it worked again for a few weeks. Couldnt fix it a third time though
Because I have a M1 max macbook pro, and it never gets hot ever. It also never really makes any noise.
My main game is cities skylines and civ 6. Don't know if those are not that intense since they are quite some years old. But I dont need to resort to crazy stuff like your comment.
Horrible horrible advice. Agree on the login page etc.. but your sales stuff needs to be on point. I see this from the other perspective, working at a big company. The smaller players never get their foot in the door because they don't know how to talk to us. And they don't optimize their decks toward the audience.
If the talk is not about they customer, why should your customer care?
Can't win in that scenario
