daburninatorrr··on Backdoor in event-stream library dependency
This situation reminds me a lot of the hypothetical situation outlined in this post [1]. Definitely worth the read for anyone who hasn't already seen it.

daburninatorrr··on Apple has completed its acquisition of Shazam
I was unaware that this was a thing. That's pretty cool, and it's always nice to see a company like that able to adapt and thrive with the advent of smartphones
daburninatorrr··on ‘Star Citizen’ Court Case Reveals the Messy Reality of Crowdfunding a $200M Game
This is especially important, and I don't see anyone else here (at the moment of posting this) calling this out. This is a disastrous precedent to set for consumers, because it means that even though you are agreeing to terms on the date of the sale, those same terms of the sale can be changed on a moments notice and still affect you, without your knowledge or consent. It's a shame that he has to keep fighting this, but I would assume (edit: I should say, I really, really hope) that this decision will eventually be overturned.
daburninatorrr··on Waze Carpool
While true, I feel like that is just how carpooling mechanics work. When there is a way for you to be randomly paired with strangers for a commute to and from work, you always run the risk of not liking someone. I'm more interested if there would be any penalty for the driver leaving without you because you took too long or something. With something that is so easy to sign up for, one would assume that feedback and accountability would also be easier to handle than previously

I like this idea. I feel like many states already have hotlines you can call to get matched with a carpool (I'm fairly certain NY does at least), and so to me this seems like the natural progression of things. Plus, the fact that the driver would get a small amount of money would create incentive to sign up, but not create a new market like Uber/Lyft did. I'm interested to see what comes of this.

A simple Google search failed me, maybe I don't know what I am looking for, but now I am at the mercy of the internet when I ask...

daburninatorrr··on How MTA shut down my app for Penn Station commuters
Interestingly enough, I have had this same exact idea for an app, also being one of those commuters who rely on LIRR trains, also being someone who noticed that my peak train home arrives almost always on the same track, and also being one of the (few) commuters who go down to the platform before the train is called.

It is a shame that this had to happen to OP. I personally don't see the app as an issue, because the amount of commuters that would actually use such a thing is rather low (seriously, stand in the concourse and look around at people, a large amount of them are not using their phones).

My original idea was to scrape the data from their webpage, or see if there was a way to get the data from the Train Time app's Arrival Countdown page, but according to the post, it has been removed from their website, so there goes that idea.

The lesson to me is clear though: don't try to make an app that would make commuter's lives easier. The MTA does not seem to want that, especially during the track repairs. I find it interesting that it was shut down so close to the start of the Penn Station track repairs...

daburninatorrr··on Windows 10 on ARM
Man, that League of Legends desktop icon on the test machine is such a tease. I would love to know what the status of x86 gaming on ARM devices would be, especially for something competitive that runs on most anything like LoL
