I'm so behind on work... I can't even write an awesome profile!

Until then watch this: https://vimeo.com/12598733 or this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhOHn9TClXY&t=347s

Right. What I am also surprised is how dirty the regime is, yet no one seems to care:

da02··on 3factor apps: a pattern for fast iteration, resilience and high scalability
Right. But, what if the client (eg browser) would ask the system if the message has been fully processed? Then the client can re-send the message if the Server lost the original message? For example:

client: "Hey, buddy! Did you process that message I sent you? Here is the ID."
  Server: "No. Send it again."
client: "Ok. Here is the message again."
[Server processes it, completes processing it, sends back response.]
If done this way, wouldn't you be able to reduce the need for persistence of the original message and events from the client? (Not that persistence of the original event on the Server would be a bad thing.)

Oh. I see now. Thank you for posting this.

So let's say an event is emitted, does this happen?

* "payment processing" handles it -> changes state -> another event emitted -> "restaurant approval" processes it -> changes state -> another event emitted -> "delivery assignment" processes it

Or does this happen?

* event emitted -> "payment processing" and "restaurant approval" handles event asynchronously, -> state changes -> event emitted -> "delivery assignment" handles event.

da02··on OOP Is Dead, Long Live OOP
Ha ha. I always wondered why that lonely one-comment account existed. I suspect many people are using data abstraction and calling it OOP. I am not a professional programmer. What do you like to use when designing software? Functional? Types? C? Haskell? Pharo?

Functional Reactive Object Oriented Programming?
da02··on OOP Is Dead, Long Live OOP
Kay also mentioned the Internet is an OO system. At one point he was thinking every object would have it's own IP address.

He does have an account here on HN. https://news.ycombinator.com/threads?id=alankay1 I hope he doesn't get tired of explaining the same things over-and-over again. I have asked questions and he has answered, but I usually end up misinterpreting the ideas. :(

Thank you very much for this. This should be the opening of the article. I don't know why articles start like novels. With so much information being published nowadays, I would think the start of the article would include a summary/abstract to help the reader decide to dedicate the time to read the entire article.
da02··on Unix in East Germany (1990)
How frightening. Did they like the West better? I remember reading an anecdote that many East Germans, once they left to West Germany and Western Europe, they regretted a while and started longing for the East. I always wondered what they miss and hated about Western Europe.

What major/minor did you get? What type of work do you do now? (I'm still envious you can get a degree and hold down a job. I believe I have enough intelligence to learn a lot at a school, but I have a tough time concentrating and dealing with topics past a certain level of abstraction. So I could never finish past the first year and the usual 101 courses.)

How much was it at this cheap school? (Although I think you meant affordable. :)

If it's not too personal: Which major/minor did you choose? Which school was it? Year of graduation? Would you recommend it to others? Any downsides to the school?

da02··on Disguised user location data collection on Huawei phone?
Thank you very much. That helps me a lot. Which ROMs do you install on them? Or do you just use the official ROMs that come pre-installed?
da02··on Disguised user location data collection on Huawei phone?
Thanks. Which phones are your personal favorites in the sub-$200 range?
da02··on Disguised user location data collection on Huawei phone?
I have a Xiaomi Redmi 4G (codename: Dior) that is 3+ years old. It works on T-Mobile.

That chart is helpful. I would also read the reviews of the phone and check if the phone says "Global Edition" or "Global Version" to also check compatibility.

I use the Mokee ROM. It gets regular updates. But, the Huawei Ascend XT2 feels much faster with a longer-lasting battery.

da02··on Disguised user location data collection on Huawei phone?
Thanks. That makes sense.
da02··on Disguised user location data collection on Huawei phone?
I have a family friend that is 70+ yr olds. Unfortunately, the best deal I could find for him via his AT&T prepaid plan was a $70 Huawei Ascend XT2 @ Walmart (locked to AT&T). It's performance is great: fast charging, long-lasting battery, 2G of RAM, and intuitive UI (despite being Huawei's custom modifications of stock Android).

What are the best alternatives (in terms of security updates and privacy) for Android phones with 2G of RAM and $100-$200 unlocked? The Ascend XT2 is so great for non-power users, that I'm even willing to overlook Huawei's awful practices for my next phone. All other phones are either too expensive or never have official security patches released for the OS.

What do you mean by, "too many friends' parents lost their jobs over it"?

(Thanks for posting this info. about Huawei.)
