I'm Josh. I currently live in Atlanta, GA. When I'm not building cool stuff or putting out fires, I like to take photos of wildlife trying to make it in the city.

I honestly don't understand the necessity or want for something like this. I get that people want their community detached from corporate interest, and that they don't want censorship involved with their communications and ideas... but as the article passingly mentions, the technology is coming out of groups that have a reasonable monetary incentive to push it.

I for one am hesitant to rely on a 'reddit p2p network' for which I have to seed with bitcoins.

Are there any estimates and just how much that cost/"incentive" per user is?

> Furthermore, when a user upvotes content, that sends a small amount of bitcoin to the author of that content, thus incentivizing the production of good content

How do you deincentivize folks from gaming that? Would we potentially run into a situation where new forms of online publishing are going to arise, where instead of being funded by Google Ads they are now funded directly by users liking their content? Will curators of cat pictures become overnight millionaires?

the Require.js logo has the hover title 'Redis'.

That's a very clever metaphor for that aspect of Docker. I hadn't considered looking at it that way before.
d2xdy2··on Hard-Core Career Advice For A 13-Year-Old
Even if you've done your due diligence to get a degree that should flow into a career path; you're still relatively screwed.

Is $terminal-based-editor really that bad to learn?
d2xdy2··on PyPy.js: A fast, compliant Python implementation for the web
I saw this a few months ago, and it never gets any less insane (in a good way) to watch. Just following Atwood's Law, I suppose.
d2xdy2··on Ask HN: How do you manage Wordpress?
Not sure what I understand what you mean; I approach it much the same way that I keep up with security on my laptop. I find software (plugins) that seem reputable and update them when I get a notification to update them. If I happen to see a vuln pop up on seclist with no update from the publisher, I'll probably deactivate that plugin for a while until there's a response / update.

I think that's a fairly reasonable methodology for any web application or stack-- I run updates on most of my linux machines a few times a week, as needed, to edge out the would-be attackers (or fix other bugs I wasn't aware of).

I personally host the bulk of my stuff on a Linode VPS and just compartmentalize it into areas of duty and responsibility. My blog / portfolio gets the most attention right now from me, but stuff like my time tracking and CRM have their own areas that are "reasonably" separated from stuff like WordPress.

d2xdy2··on Google Contributor
I take it as saying something like "why does it have to be Google that does this; someone should have done this a long time ago", maybe.

Google starts a lot of cool projects, it'd be neat to see other companies taking the same initiative in certain areas (I'm sure there are, I just am not well versed in that area).

d2xdy2··on Signal 2.0 released with private messaging support
Perhaps its incorrect thinking, but I trust that Moxie and the gang aren't going to screw me over.

But, yeah, in theory, you can download it and compile it. The fact that you would have to also buy a certificate from Apple to do it is just a detail. You _can_ do it.

d2xdy2··on Signal 2.0 released with private messaging support
I think the premise of that sort of thing is that in theory, you could build your own copy and install that, or at least check it against the pre-compiled version.
