d0ugal··on Apple M5 chip
For one day only every 25 years.
d0ugal··on Show HN: Clearcam – Add AI object detection to your IP CCTV cameras
I have used Frigate for years, I think early on it didn't support all of those GPUs. So it might be that said videos are out of date.
d0ugal··on Merlin Bird ID
I have been running this for about 1 year, works very well. The developer is regularly updating it and I run the nightly image at the moment.
d0ugal··on Hot Page – a graphical site builder
It sounds like you went down the rabbit hole...
d0ugal··on Behind the scenes of Sound ID in Merlin – Identify birds using your phone (2021)
I have similar experiences. My parents both use the app also. It’s one of the few apps I hear their generation (retired and 65+) talking about.

Now I’m imaging a crossover with this and Pokémon Go. Gamified bird watching!

d0ugal··on 418 I'm a teapot
That appears to be a different URL
d0ugal··on Software developers have stopped caring about reliability
Right, agreed. I was replying to this from the comment. Which seemed to claim it was impossible.

> We'll never achieve high reliability for anything but the simplest software

Sorry, I wasn’t very clear!

d0ugal··on Software developers have stopped caring about reliability
IIUC NASA achieve high reliability for problems that don’t seem simple.
d0ugal··on Show HN: AI powered meme search, open-source
Is this comment on the wrong post?
d0ugal··on Pynguin – Generate Python unit tests automatically
Agreed. I went digging and found one in the docs. https://pynguin.readthedocs.io/en/latest/user/quickstart.htm...
d0ugal··on Nationwide tells 13,000 staff to 'work anywhere'
I have been remote for around 8 years. When speaking to people new to remote (since covid) I always tell them this is the worst version of remote.

Generally remote working means flexibility and freedom (to varying degrees). We don’t have that now.

d0ugal··on Show HN: Raspberry Pi 400 with a $2 IPS 240x240 micro display
I have a 3yo and a 10 month old. Way too tired for that.

Maybe if they were a bit older?

d0ugal··on Vaccine hopes rise as Oxford jab prompts immune response among old and young
I was able to get the flu jab easily in Scotland (as was my wife and my daughter is getting it tomorrow). It was incredibly well organised.

I think if you are unlucky it can be hard to get, but it is rolling out fast and many people are thankfully able to get it.

d0ugal··on Chevron Is Refusing to Pay for the “Amazon Chernobyl”
I 100% thought this was about Amazon the company as I clicked the link. Sad really.
d0ugal··on Glasgow: Scots Army Knife for Electronics
That’s the Sgian-dubh. If you wondered what it was called

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sgian-dubh

d0ugal··on Oatly: The New Coke?
I would guess they are using this comparison as oatly has become popular in coffee shops for lates etc. So the size is more common there, but probably not common at home.
d0ugal··on Show HN: I made an elegant SwiftUI timeline
It consumed me
d0ugal··on What eight years of side projects have taught me (2019)
This.

What is finished anyway? Are projects ever "finished"?

d0ugal··on Fedora CoreOS Out of Preview
I’m the same. I never upgrade cattle, they get replaced and only pets are upgraded.
d0ugal··on Are We Wayland Yet?
After trying Sway recently I read a bunch of github issues when debugging. I was disappointed to find many the comments toxic.

I’ll stick with i3 and probably look for something different in the future.

d0ugal··on Google’s outage meant some Nest users couldn’t unlock doors or use the AC
Yeah, they can be controlled at the thermostat. I was able to adjust mine locally but not via the app (or API in home assistant)
d0ugal··on Tilix: A tiling terminal emulator
I also use gnome-terminal with i3, works great.
d0ugal··on APFS is not safe to use with names which have Unicode normalisation issues
Is this reddit?
d0ugal··on A Good Vimrc (2014)
It is easy once you have put in the hours (days? months?) learning what you need and then scripting the setup... :)
d0ugal··on Show HN: Pynd a command line tool to search and explore Python projects
This project is very young, I'd really like feedback from people. Is this something you think you would find useful? What features would you like to see?

I have only been using it a little bit, but found it most useful on larger projects. I have spent lots of time grepping OpenStack repos. Hopefully this will make it easier for me.

d0ugal··on Samsung to Permanently Discontinue Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone
"94 points by dcgudeman 1 hour ago | flag | hide | past | web | 95 comments | favorite"

The "web" in this line, just below the title. It takes you to a google search.

d0ugal··on Do You Love Music? Silicon Valley Doesn’t
It's just like paintings, real art is seen live! oh, wait.
d0ugal··on Django 1.6 released
If only English was statically typed.
