cydodon··on ScreenWall – Turn old phones into synced widgets for your space
The safest option is probably to remove the battery and run the phone from a (well defined/build) external power source, e.g. like this: https://yaky.dev/2022-09-06-smartphone-without-battery/
cydodon··on How to sequence your own DNA at home
From their website yseq.net:

- Whole genome sequencing ultra plus (150 Gbases raw data) is €699,- incl. shipping for the sampling kit

- "The turnaround time is approx. 5-7 months at the moment."

cydodon··on Google Books (or similar) all book scans – $200k bounty (2025)
For 200PB one would need 25kg worth of 2TB microSD cards... that would be lots of Rubik's cubes =P
cydodon··on Multimodal adaptive optical microscope: in vivo imaging, molecules to organisms
Since I am working in the XRD/XRF/XAS space, what are the multimodal techniques that you see as the most beneficial ones to complement the x-ray measurements? If you can tell, I would also be interested what your field of research is :)
cydodon··on Bumble Berry Pi – A Cheap DIY Raspberry Pi Handheld Cyberdeck
That is the advantage of the size! There is little chance you will forget that you have the device in your pocket =P
cydodon··on Recommendation for non-DOS/Unix open source OS outside x86/X64
EUMEL maybe? https://6xq.net/eumel/ (Z80, M68000 and later x86 as well)
cydodon··on Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin discovered that stars are mostly made of hydrogen
I know, that this doesn't help really, but in plasma physics as well as when dealing with degenerate matter and such 8 and 3 are the same number. Most of the time a scientist in these fields is happy to get the order of magnitude right! ;P
cydodon··on You got a null result. Will anyone publish it?
A preprint will still give less value to the negative result. No peer review (being a broken system or not) and not being published in a "proper" journal will make it less likely that the results will be recognised / accepted. The whole point is, that a negative result can have as much value as a positive one...
cydodon··on ESASky
well... it's not always night time... it's not always clear skies.. it's not often that a power outage happens in my city to actually see the stars...
cydodon··on What no one has seen before: gravitational waveforms from warp drive collapse
If measurement of the soul's weight gave 21, that can only be half of the answer[0], right?

cydodon··on Cylon: JavaScript framework for robotics, drones, and the Internet of Things
...somewhat off topic... I seem to remember a JavaScript based system that could be installed on (old) mobile phones. This way one had easy access to all the phones sensors, wifi and could build simple GUIs to repurpose the phone. Does anyone know how it is called or where I can find something similar? Thanks =)
cydodon··on Dead Man's Switch
hmm... if you trigger other actions with these emails you are halfway into the plot of "Deamon" by Daniel Suarez ;)

cydodon··on Ternary circuits: R=3 is not the Optimal Radix for Computation (2019)
I was wondering, can't you count to 144 (12 x 12) using two hands using this knuckle counting approach?
cydodon··on De-crufted Windows 11 coming to Europe soon
"The" EU is not a monolithic thing, there are liberal and conservative factions. Depending on the topic the resulting consensus can move quite a bit on that spectrum...
cydodon··on Merged magnetic resonance and light sheet microscopy of the whole mouse brain
The authors mention Neuroglancer: https://github.com/google/neuroglancer
cydodon··on Merged magnetic resonance and light sheet microscopy of the whole mouse brain
If I got this right, the authors have the data accessible here for now:

[...]The data is stored in H5 format to enable interactive examination using Neuroglancer (https://github.com/google/neuroglancer; https://zenodo.org/record/5573294#.ZCrkIezMIvo)
