cybervegan··on Portland’s Disgraceful Anarchy
Surely homelessness is, in and of itself, a symptom of a much deeper rot? I'm not trying to excuse the behaviour of these people, but if you feel that society has shat on you, and robbed you of your dignity, might you not want to return the favour? Homelessness is rarely a chosen situation; every homeless person has a story, often a dire set of circumstances that landed them on the streets. It may be personal problems, substance abuse, or mental issues - all things people need help and treatment for. Many of these things are, at the root, down to lacking education or social support structures; symptoms of a society that doesn't care.

Don't get me wrong, the affected businesses are justifiably angry, but their anger is misdirected; sometimes the perpetrators of crime are not the root cause. In small part, maybe they are part of the root cause.

cybervegan··on The Lethality of Loneliness
I'd be interested to know how this interplays with ASD (as I have HFA/Aspergers). I've spend decades in a high stress state... and feeling lonely/isolated. I'm really lucky that I have an understanding wife, but I'm really not that good with the normal "social situations" neurotypical people gravitate to, but where I end up feeling agitated and disorientated, and emotionally drained. I've often said I feel drawn to such situations but hate it when I'm in them.

I saw that too. Probably should have been a "giga-light year" or something.

Will their system be able to discern fair use or just brand anything that contains samples of "IP" to be "illegal"?

Content owners already have far too much control over their wares.

cybervegan··on A Guide to Intermittent Fasting
I did intermittent fasting 2 days a week for 2 years (2013-2015). Initially I lost weight, which was good. Energy levels were elevated, minor health problems seemed to have gone away or lessened. Towards the end, I think I was being rather too "soft" on myself, so wasn't really reaping the benefits, and it got to be a grind. I then had some rather unpleasant emotional issues to deal with, and found I didn't have the emotional energy to continue: I have pretty decent willpower, but when I'm badly emotionally stressed, it crumbles. I've been intending to get back into I/F ever since, and though I'm emotionally in a far better place, I haven't managed to muster the emotional energy for it yet.
