cybernoodles··on Ask HN: Is Claude Code web down?
Not for me
cybernoodles··on Polymarket gamblers threaten to kill me over Iran missile story
I feel like we need a new word for this because it is far worse than gambling when you can effectively put a hit on someone.
cybernoodles··on Private Japanese lunar lander enters orbit around moon ahead of a June touchdown
Hopefully they fixed their toxic culture that caused their previous crash.

Their CEO is being sued for discrimination by their ex-NASA employees that helped them get off the ground:

https://www.supercluster.com/editorial/japanese-moon-startup...

A lot of Japanese space companies have come under scrutiny for discrimination against non-Japanese, sexual harassment, and gender discrimination, often by the ex-NASA employees they hired.

cybernoodles··on Common misconceptions about the complexity in robotics vs. AI (2024)
A common practice is to train a transformer model to control a given robot model in simulation by first teleoperating the simulated model with some controller (keyboard, joystick, etc.) to complete the task and create a dataset, and then setting up the simulator to permute the environment variables such as frictions, textures, etc (domain randomization) and run many epochs at faster than real time until a final policy converges. If the right things were randomized and your demonstration examples provided enough variation of information, it should generalize well to the actual hardware.
cybernoodles··on Anduril to open software-based manufacturing hub to scale production
Newbie here; do you mean they keep raising, so it looks like an IPO will never happen, or do you mean having a series F round will inherently destroy the value of the options they have given?
cybernoodles··on Ask HN: 19yr old child suffering from internet gaming disorder? Any suggestions?
I'm in my 30's now. I did the same exact thing, with the same completely whacked out sleep schedule, when I was transitioning 18-19. I spent thousands of hours on Oblivion. My parents did not get on my case about it. They did occasionally say "don't be late for X," or "you're going to miss Y," but they never blew it out of proportion to what it actually was, which was "just a phase" for me. I had very bad grades at this time, and gaming was a way to cope an escape; not the cause of it. My advice is to give him some space and let it play out. If he's going to fail something, let him fail and learn. Let him have a bad semester. He will bounce back. Perhaps this is unavoidable at this point.
cybernoodles··on NASA says Boeing Starliner astronauts may fly home on SpaceX in 2025
Reminds me of the cause of the Apollo 13 oxygen tank explosions:

"The high temperature emptied the tank, but also resulted in serious damage to the teflon insulation on the electrical wires to the power fans within the tank. The exposed fan wires shorted and the teflon insulation caught fire in the pure oxygen environment."

cybernoodles··on Emad Mostaque resigned as CEO of Stability AI
Maybe related to last years controversy?

“Mostaque had embezzled funds from Stability AI to pay the rent for his family's lavish London apartment” and that Hodes learned that he “had a long history of cheating investors in prior ventures in which he was involved”

cybernoodles··on I accidentally saved my company half a million dollars
I saved Amazon $10MM as an intern back in 2012. If only I could have seen 1% of that.
cybernoodles··on Ask HN: What tech is under the radar with all attention on ChatGPT etc.?
Mars Sample Return going through PDR.

Intrinsic AI making a product announcement in two weeks.

Deepmind collaborating with Robotis implementing deep RL on the robocup humanoids to play soccer at the next level.

cybernoodles··on Ask HN: Who has changed careers from engineer to patent agent/lawyer?
Could you elaborate on the much higher productivity expectations? Also, which part of it was high intensity?
cybernoodles··on Ask HN: Who has changed careers from engineer to patent agent/lawyer?
What are your thoughts about the "two tier system" others are mentioning? I haven't heard of that before, but it seems like doing prosecution is not desirable? Some law firms offer to pay for your law school, so it doesn't seem bad doing prosecution while you attend law school, but I have no idea. The opportunity I was proposed is in patent prosecution, but it seems people transition into something else quite frequently.
cybernoodles··on Ask HN: Do you think Agile/Scrum is beneficial for software delivery?
I really haven't experienced this sentiment. It sounds like you had a bad experience. Scrum can be amazing depending on who is implementing it. Even 7 years ago at AWS, micromanagement wasn't and couldn't afford to be a thing, yet we were most definitely a Scrum team. It was what held us together despite the lack of management. Yeah there would be arguments between PMs and devs, but that is healthy, and most often the PMs lost said arguments. Everyone was placed adjacent to one another, and I adjacent to the project manager, which gave ample time for arguments, but in a way that was better for the team as a whole. It introduced a sort of democracy with continual meetings to ensure that we were working efficiently at any given time.
cybernoodles··on Change your MAC address with a shell script (2019)
Made the same thing a while back in about 15 LOC. Lived two years next to one of those XFinity Wifi hotspots that kick you off after an hour :)

cybernoodles··on Change your MAC address with a shell script (2019)
I've got a shorter one! (which may or may not work anymore. its old and hastily written :)

cybernoodles··on Clams filter the water and check whether the water is polluted or clean
Very unscientific claim on my part, but I'm sure it doesn't make them better off to be restricted to servitude for another species.
cybernoodles··on Don't use third party auth to sign in
The original HN post was titled Never Use Google to Sign In. Did HN change the title?
cybernoodles··on Thoughts on 2 Years as a Remote Robotics Consultant

cybernoodles··on Thoughts on 2 Years as a Remote Robotics Consultant
Sorry I dont have anything besides my Github: https://github.com/chrislgarry. All of the robotics work I have been doing is confidential and theyre quite strict about that.
cybernoodles··on Thoughts on 2 Years as a Remote Robotics Consultant
Id love to know how you got your first clients. After being at AWS for about 3 years, I have been working in humanoid robotics in Japan for another 3 years and am really eager to do something on my own and get out of the Japanese work-life balance nightmare. Any advice is appreciated.
cybernoodles··on Google deletes “communist bandits” from comments on Youtube
This is where I draw my line. I will not be using HN anymore
cybernoodles··on Sony Builds AI into a CMOS Image Sensor
Not necessarily. It usually means more transistors were fit onto the board in order to increase computation, which usually increases power consumption. But improvements can come from several means, such as a new type of transistor, fabrication method, material, etc that could reduce power consumption.
cybernoodles··on AWS Outperforms GCP in the 2018 Cloud Report

cybernoodles··on Free Hotel Wifi with Python and Selenium
XFinity does the same MAC address-based validation, and it can be changed relatively easily on Linux or Windows. As for Mac, a simple script like this: https://github.com/chrislgarry/XFinityHotspotSpoofer
cybernoodles··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (August 2018)
Are these positions only US - Remote?
cybernoodles··on Ask HN: How to self-learn math?
If you love math, read the books that interest you most, and read about math used within the context of your interests. You will get much more out of that than reading books that others told you about. And you will also stick to it and turn it into something you enjoy rather than feeling guilty for not reading enough about math in a context you cant strongly relate to or be attracted to. Take advantage of your interests.

cybernoodles··on Cello – a Verilog compiler for transcriptional logic in bacterial cells
It depends on the type of plasmid I believe. Bacteria cells will share certain plasmids with one another; this is how they learn quickly and spread resistance information. Some plasmids are even shared with different cell types such as yeast. I'm curious if they have thought about how to control how the 'software' will spread.
