cultureulterior··on Ask HN: What would you like to see in a better job board?
Good geographic search, by human language compability, visa compability, etc.
cultureulterior··on The Ruby Standard Library To Be Converted to Gems for Ruby 2.0?
Gem to debian package compability is already terrible. This will make it worse.
cultureulterior··on Monitors.txt - lazy webapp monitoring
Ugh, natural language. Never works well.
cultureulterior··on Easter Island heads have bodies
UN-altered REPRODUCTION and DISSEMINATION of this IMPORTANT Information is ENCOURAGED, ESPECIALLY to COMPUTER BULLETIN BOARDS.
cultureulterior··on Mass-Scale Cold Fusion a Success?
Ny Teknik is well known for printing garbage about anything outside their area of expertise.
cultureulterior··on High Performance Enabled SSH/SCP
It would be really nice if the high performance ssh patches were ever merged- I think they've maintained them outside the trunk for the last 5 years or more.
cultureulterior··on A picture of Mel Kaye (the Real Programmer) [pdf]
He looks young enough to still be alive.
cultureulterior··on Google releases a fix for flash, before Adobe
I wonder how it compares with webkit? There's android, iphone, RIM, and chrome.

There's this guy, who I think is doing tree tabs:

cultureulterior··on Chrome 14 released
Which only means all the bugs get a "MovedFrom-14" tag.
cultureulterior··on AMD snags Guinness World Record for clockiest chip
2 cores only, which I feel is cheating.
cultureulterior··on Light Touch Projector
It actually is quite interesting, since it is a 2d holographic laser projector.

The pyramid scheme has come to Hacker News!
cultureulterior··on Total Commander for Android version 1.0 release candidate
Will expire in October, apparently.
cultureulterior··on Paladin, a new JS 3D game engine by Mozilla
A new game engine, by which they mean a copy of two existing open source projects mashed together, Cubic.vr and Ammo.js
cultureulterior··on Show HN: Hacker News reader for Android tablets
Will this work well for phones?
cultureulterior··on [dead]
Don't bother. Just another piece of utter idiocy on the new spam-filled hacker news.
cultureulterior··on Command line tools for web developers
http://freshmeat.net/projects/apachetop/

I find it amazingly useful.

cultureulterior··on HTML5 XBOX Controller in Firefox Nightly
Anyone know if there a tablet pressure/tablet pen direction api in browsers yet?
cultureulterior··on Ask HN: What do you use for monitoring your servers?
Hyperic. It has a open source edition, and you can write autoconfiguring plugins. We monitor some 200 servers with it.
cultureulterior··on The future Firefox UI
I don't understand why no browser manufacturer integrates tree tabs. It's such a great interface innovation, and everybody is just ignoring it.
cultureulterior··on HN Help: Mom wants to censor my blog posts; what should I do?
Do a completely anonymous blog, blog about things that are in the general interest.
cultureulterior··on NoSQL is a Premature Optimization
>older SQL systems have been beaten to death in production

But they haven't. SQL Multi-master replication systems with no single points of failure really aren't that common, and that's what everyone really wants. Everything else imposes huge production costs.

cultureulterior··on 12 Reasons Why Every Linux System Administrator Should be Lazy
I would have liked to see some mention of configuration management software, e.g puppet, but it seems reasonable.

cultureulterior··on Ask HN: What's your most-used function that you wrote yourself?
SetDirectory[ToFileName[({"FileName"} /. NotebookInformation[EvaluationNotebook[]])[[1,1]]]]

Mathematica code. Sets the CWD for file operations for a notebook to the same directory the current file is in. This is not default for Mac OSX.

cultureulterior··on VMWare Screw Customers
Depends on how large that organization is, and how much IT junk, like mail, etc.. is outsourced.

(I'm sole sysadmin for a search engine, and I handle 200 servers.)

cultureulterior··on Former GM exec, Bob Lutz: Fire the MBAs and let the engineers run the show
In high school there is a big focus on abstinence and staying away from alcohol, for much the same reason.
cultureulterior··on Tilera's 100-core processors take on Sandy Bridge
Anyone know anything about pricing? I hate companies that are like, "we want you to buy, but only if you take 20 minutes to talk to this moronic salesman to find out the price"
